Chapter 16 - Chapter 16

The physician placed the needle that he was holding on the table. Reynolds' loud voice sounded again and he questioned him for the third time, " What happened to her?"

The elderly man who was brought to treat Mari swallowed hard. He didn't know how he was going to go about explaining his daughter's condition to him.

"Sir, what's the problem?" Laura's worried voice came out and she clutched her husband tightly.

"I could reach out to other physicians for help." The man said as he continued looking at Maria.

Reynolds furrowed his brows. His fists twitched at the side as he hated the fact that the doctor was stalling. He should just tell them the truth, instead of stalking and cutting their hearts in half.

Reynolds couldn't control himself anymore, and reached out to the doctor, grabbing him by the collar of his shirt.

"You're not going to mess with us." He said within gritted teeth.

"Your daughter may not wake up in a long while." The physician announced in a strained voice as he felt quite suffocated by Reynold's hold.

"What?" Laura exclaimed, covering her mouth with her hand.

"I'm sorry, but she is in a deep coma and I have no idea when she will recover." The doctor said, adding more clarification to the matter.

Laura's eyes welled up in tears, and she leaned closer to her husband, burying her head in his chest.

"Isn't there a way to help her?" Laura asked in a shaky voice as tears clouded her words.

"I wish there was, but nothing can be done." The man responded.

"It's going to be okay," Reynolds whispered to his wife as he rubbed her back and comforted her. Reynolds also felt the pain from almost losing his daughter, but he had to act strong. He couldn't afford to sob as he was an alpha, and had to comfort his wife.

He looked at his daughter who laid down with her eyes completely closed. His mind wondered why she had decided to take such a huge risk by entering into the naked tomb.

"Why did you do that?" He whispered inwardly as he held his sobbing wife to his side.

"Does this mean she won't wake up this week?" Laura continued to ask as she raised her tear soaked face from Reynold's chest and walked towards Maria.

"I don't think she will wake up this week." The physician said to her.

"My poor daughter," Laura continued lamenting as tears streamed down her face. "She had already faced a lot throughout the entire week. I can't believe she still has to go through this."

She stopped when her body hit the bed. Laura touched Maria's body, it was cold.

"Maria, please wake up." Laura screamed and shook Maria's body vigorously. Maria didn't flinch, and she continued shaking her body until the wood of the bed creaked.

Reynolds reached out to her, and held her back while pulling her into his arms.

"She will wake up," He comforted her, and stroked her hair to calm her.

The physician moved to Maria's side, and placed a hand on the side of her neck, checking for her vital signs.

"Even if she recovers, there's a high chance her wolf will be gone." The man announced.

"That isn't a problem." Laura said amidst tears. "Just make sure she recovers."

"I would." The physician assured her.

He grabbed his things and excused himself from the family, after assuring them that he would come everyday to check on their daughter.

Reynolds felt pain tugging in his heart as he kept asking himself what made Maria to carry out this act.

Only one answer kept playing in his mind, and he sincerely hoped that it wasn't the reason. He wished he hadn't been too hard on her or put pressure on her to get a special ability. From Jada's explanation, Maria had entered there because she wanted to train harder.

He had also contributed to her pain by allowing her stepsister to take her place despite the offence she committed.

He rubbed his forehead while holding his wife to his side. He wished that he had been a better father and hadn't been too hard on his daughter.

She was his only child and the heir to the alpha position. He only hoped for one thing, that she and her wolf would recover from the trauma.

Laura disentangled herself from the hold and sat on the space on the bed where Maria laid. She touched her daughter's body gently and continued looking at her.

A knock sounded on the room door, and a young man walked inside, requesting Reynold's attention. Reynolds kissed his wife on the forehead before leaving with the man.

Laura continued sitting down there, refusing to be consoled.

The door opened, and a maid walked inside. Laura quickly cleaned her tears and turned towards her.

"I was sent to clean the room." The maid announced as she held a broom in her hand.

Laura's gaze went around the room again. She had been so engrossed in sobbing about her daughter's state, that she failed to notice the unkempt nature of the room.

She didn't say anything and stood up from the bed and walked towards the door. The maid said something that caused her to halt. "I heard what happened to her, I'm so sorry ma." She bowed her head slightly while speaking.

The Luna faked a smile in response. She twisted the doorknob to leave the room.

"I know something which may be of help." The maid said to the Luna, causing her to pause a second time.

"What did you say?" Laura asked as she walked back into the room.

"I know a way that she can recover from the coma." The maid repeated her statement.

Laura looked at her with curious eyes, hoping that whatever she had to say would be useful to the wellbeing of her child. She closed the door of the room and returned back to sit byl the side of Maria's bed.

Then she looked directly at the maid and said, "Tell me about it."
