Arriving at First High School, Han Yu stood outside the gates, watching students come and go. He couldn't help but feel a wave of nostalgia.It was his first time here, yet schools always had that familiar air—something about them stirred memories of simpler days.
Just as he was about to step through the gate, a voice called out behind him.
"Han!"
The voice was familiar.
Han Yu's mouth twitched. You've got to be kidding me. Even here?
A boy came running over from a distance, beaming with excitement when he recognized Han Yu.
"Parker? What are you doing here?" Han Yu asked. The boy before him was none other than Peter Parker—the same teenager he'd recently helped by making a custom Spider suit.
"School event. I'm here for a competition," Peter said, a little breathless. "But what about you? Why are you here? Did Wanda and Pietro come with you?"
Peter glanced around curiously, noticing that Han Yu was alone.
"Just handling a small matter. Come on, let's head in first."
Han Yu didn't plan to tell Peter anything about the mutants. Not because he didn't trust him, but because Peter didn't need that kind of burden. Balancing school life and being Spider-Man already kept the kid busy enough.
Knowing too much right now would only complicate his life and thoughts.
"Parker, you coming? We're going in!"
A group of students walked up beside Peter. At the center of the group was a girl about his age—shoulder-length blonde hair, fitted T-shirt, denim shorts, and a figure that turned heads.
"Ah, right!" Peter said, then quickly introduced everyone. "This is my friend Han Yu. Han, this is Gwen Stacy—and my classmates… uh, let's just say A, B, and C."
His casual way of summarizing his classmates made Han Yu chuckle helplessly.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Han Yu," he said politely, his eyes flickering briefly with surprise as he discreetly studied the girl in front of him.
Gwen Stacy.
Of course he knew that name. In one of the Spider-Man parallel universes, Gwen was one of the most remarkable female Spider-heroes—her suit typically black and white, elegant and deadly.
Not that Han Yu was ogling her. He just… really liked the character. That was all.
But seeing her in person—he had to admit, she looked even better than in the comics.
"Hi, you can call me Gwen."
Gwen extended her hand with an easy smile. Han Yu took it briefly, then let go almost instantly. His quick, respectful gesture caught her off guard. She gave him a second look, somewhat impressed.
She was used to boys holding her hand too long or getting distracted by her looks. Han Yu's calm restraint was rare.
He noticed her surprise but didn't care. He wasn't the kind of man to drool over a sixteen-year-old. With a small smile, he tilted his head toward the gate. "Shall we go in together?"
Without waiting for a reply, he led the way. Gwen, surprisingly, was the first to follow him—beating even Peter to it.
At the entrance, Peter and his classmates all had to present their IDs before security let them through.
Han Yu, however, simply walked up. The guard glanced at him once, then nodded as though greeting an old acquaintance, waving him right in without a word.
Peter and the others all noticed and exchanged curious looks. They didn't dare ask—except Peter, of course.
"Han, have you been here before?"
"Uh… you could say that."
Han Yu brushed the question off vaguely. In truth, he had never been here before—not in this life or the last. He'd simply used a touch of psychic power to nudge the guard's thoughts, convincing him to let him through.
Otherwise, he wouldn't even have made it past the gate—and that would've been awkward, especially since he was here to find Professor X.
Peter and the others nodded, completely buying his answer. None of them could sense his mental interference.
"Excuse me, coming through! Move, please!"
A voice called from behind them.
Han Yu and Peter instinctively stepped aside, while a few others were too slow and got bumped into.
The person didn't stop running but shouted back over his shoulder, "Sorry! I'm late for class!"
"Geez, doesn't even watch where he's going," one student grumbled, rubbing their sore arm. "What kind of teacher acts like that?"
"Come on, don't blame the whole school," Gwen said, rolling her eyes. "He clearly looked in a hurry—and he apologized."
"But he looks kind of familiar…" someone murmured. Then their eyes widened. "Wait! That's Charles Xavier!"
"Charles Xavier? You mean the genius who graduated from Harvard at sixteen—with doctorates in genetics, biophysics, and psychology?"
Another student jumped in excitedly, instantly forgetting about being bumped.
"That's the one!"
The group's irritation melted away, replaced by admiration. At their age—fifteen, sixteen—Charles's accomplishments seemed nothing short of legendary.
Even Peter looked a little starstruck.
Han Yu's eyes, however, gleamed with recognition.
"Well, that saves me the trouble," he muttered under his breath.
He watched Charles carefully, noting which building he entered. That would make finding him later much easier.
This young man—Charles Xavier—was the one Han Yu had come here for.
Not Professor X, not yet. At this point, Charles hadn't even fully understood his mutant ability.
"Alright, let's part ways here," Han Yu said with a smile. "Looks like we're headed in different directions."
He bid Peter and his group farewell and quickly made his way toward the building Charles had entered.
Pulling out his phone, he opened the screen and began searching for any information he could find on Charles Xavier.
