Chapter 102 - Conversation

Finding Charles wasn't difficult.Han Yu already knew which building he'd gone into, and in such a small area, locating him through the X-System app on his phone was easy—no need to wander around.

When he finally found Charles, the man was in the middle of teaching.Han Yu stood quietly at the back of the classroom for a moment, listened to a few sentences, then turned and left.

"What on earth is he talking about? I can't understand a word of it."

He leaned lazily against the hallway wall, took out his phone and earbuds, opened Netease Cloud Music, and started a random playlist.Since he had to wait anyway, taking a stroll around campus and reliving a bit of student life didn't seem like a bad idea.

Time passed quickly, and soon the bell rang for the end of class.

"Students, remember to review this week's material before next class; otherwise, it'll be hard to keep up. Also, for the weekend tutoring session—does anyone want to—"

Charles looked at the students chatting as they packed their books. No one paid attention to what he was saying; class was over, and everyone went their separate ways.

"Sigh, my students only listen to me during class. Once it's over, I'm invisible."

He shook his head helplessly and began tidying up his lesson notes. The weekend tutoring session was free—he just wanted to teach more—but it seemed the students weren't interested.

To them, weekends were precious.Few would willingly give them up for extra lessons.

Just as Charles stepped out of the classroom, a voice called out to him.

"Mr. Charles, do you have a moment? I'd like to talk."

Charles turned around. The speaker was a young Asian man, probably in his early twenties—clearly younger than himself.

"You're… the teacher of those students I bumped into before, right?"

Charles recalled the earlier incident—when he had accidentally run into Peter Parker and the others. They hadn't even exchanged glances, so it surprised him that he remembered Han Yu at all.Maybe that's what having a brilliant memory was like.

"I'm not. I came specifically to see you—there's something I want to ask. Do you have time?"

Han Yu smiled.Today, he was dressed casually: a khaki shirt, black pants, and white high-top sneakers.Simple but full of energy. With his youthful face, he could've easily passed for a high school student.

"I do. Let's go to my office then."

Seeing Han Yu's student-like appearance, Charles assumed he was visiting from another school for academic discussion. That sort of thing he was always happy to do.Just as he started walking toward his office, Han Yu stopped him.

"Could we go somewhere more private? There are things I'd rather not say in public. How about the campus café? I saw they have private booths."

Han Yu gave an apologetic smile. For someone he'd just met, asking to talk in private might've sounded suspicious. If he didn't look so honest, Charles might've already called security.

But since it was still within school grounds, Charles felt reassured and agreed. The two chatted casually as they walked toward the café, though Han Yu kept the conversation light—only sharing basic personal details, never revealing his real purpose.

"Watch out!"

As they passed the playground, several shouts rang out.Charles turned his head a beat too late—only to see a soccer ball rapidly growing larger in his vision. There was no time to dodge!

At that moment, a long, steady hand appeared between him and the ball, easily catching it midair.

"You okay?" Han Yu asked.

"I—I'm fine. You've got great reflexes!" Charles blinked, then grew animated. "Are you on the soccer team? Wait, are you trying to recruit me? No, that can't be—maybe you're an assistant coach? You should've said so! I've always liked soccer, you know. Coaching on the side wouldn't be bad at all!"

While Charles rambled excitedly, Han Yu was the one left staring in surprise. In his memory, Charles was always calm and reserved—almost stoic. But this Charles… was a lot more lively.

"Maybe that's just how time-space distortion works. Damn parallel universes," Han Yu thought with a sigh.

Ever since arriving in this world, he'd noticed changes in the timeline. The memories he carried from before were no longer guarantees—events might unfold differently this time.

"Mr. Han, are you all right?"

Charles noticed Han Yu sitting silently and frowned. After all, he was the one who had requested the meeting—his sudden quietness was strange.

"Sorry, just lost in thought." Han Yu gave a small cough, then got to the point."Mr. Charles, I heard you're quite skilled in biology. What's your opinion on the word mutation?"

"Oh? Interesting topic."

Since the subject was one of his areas of expertise—and genuine passion—Charles began to speak enthusiastically."Mutation, by definition, is part of the evolutionary process—how single-celled organisms evolve into dominant life forms. Earth's entire history of life is a record of countless mutations."

Han Yu smiled. "Nicely put. But tell me—do you think humans themselves can mutate?"

"Of course! Darwin's theory of evolution proves we evolved from apes, doesn't it—"

Charles stopped when Han Yu raised a hand.

"No, I don't mean physical evolution. I mean something deeper—mutation to a higher level of existence. For example… special abilities."

Charles froze.Something about this young man's words made him uneasy—it was suddenly clear this wasn't a simple academic discussion.

Lowering his gaze, Charles stirred his coffee with a spoon to hide the flicker of alertness in his eyes."What exactly do you mean?" he asked calmly.

Han Yu chuckled."Mr. Charles, you're… a psychic, aren't you?"

The spoon paused mid-stir for a split second—but Charles quickly resumed, looking up with an expression of mild confusion."I'm not sure what you're talking about."

But Han Yu had caught that tiny reaction. That brief hesitation told him everything.

"Don't worry," Han Yu said softly. "I'm one too, in a sense. I came to talk about uniting people like us.If the world were to suddenly learn that many superpowered individuals exist, panic would spread—and eventually, war."

The words startled Charles. They weren't mere speculation. In Han Yu's memory, a war between humans and mutants had already happened.Though most mutants meant no harm, humanity saw them as threats—hunted them—and forced them to fight back.

It ended in chaos and tragedy.

"How can I believe you?" Charles asked cautiously.

As soon as he spoke, the coffee cup before him floated gently into the air, spinning twice before settling back on the table.

That simple act erased all doubt.Han Yu was one of them.

Charles took a long sip of coffee, his excitement barely contained."I always suspected I wasn't the only one. But seeing another person like me—it's incredible.I call people like us mutants—humans whose genes have undergone mutation."

Han Yu blinked. "Wait—'always'? Mutants? When did you discover your powers?"

"Age seven," Charles replied without hesitation.

"And your ability is…?"

Charles reached out toward the spoon, and to Han Yu's shock, the metal spoon bent in his hand.

"Hold on—your ability is magnetism?!"

Han Yu's mind went blank. He quickly waved his hands. "Stop, stop!"Pressing his temples, he felt a headache coming on.This wasn't what he expected at all.

"What's wrong? Did my ability affect you somehow?"

Charles leaned forward in concern, thinking his power might have caused discomfort.

"No, no, it's fine. Just… processing," Han Yu exhaled deeply."So let me get this straight—you call people like us mutants, and your ability is to control magnetic fields?"

"Yes… is there something wrong with that?"

Something wrong?

Oh, there was very much wrong with that.
