Chapter 172 - Polaris: Daoist Master, I’ll Try—Can I Be Irresponsible?

Lin Chen casually stripped the storage rings from several captives.

A bearded man stared at him with unconcealed hostility."Are you Lorna's friend?"

"This isn't just friendship," Lin Chen replied calmly, pulling Lorna into his arms and resting a hand on her waist. "Not like you."

Lorna showed no resistance. She accepted it naturally.

The bearded man's expression darkened instantly.

"Let's get out of here first," Lin Chen said.

"Hmph. None of you are leaving!"

A tall, thin vampire stepped forward, blocking the exit with more than a dozen men behind him. He raised his gun and sneered.

Selene's face turned cold. "Gerald! You've violated the Blood Clan rule. You're not allowed to arrest humans for blood extraction."

Gerald burst out laughing, as if he'd just heard a joke.

"Selene, you know who I work for—Elder Marcus. Your patron Victor won't protect you this time!"

Lin Chen walked over, completely ignoring Gerald. He pricked his fingertip and said lightly,"Selene, one drop of blood."

Selene didn't spare Gerald a glance. She swallowed the blood.

Her body trembled violently. She took a long breath, her eyes lighting up.

That familiar scent… intoxicating… perfect.

Gerald and the others immediately went crazy.

"This man's blood smells incredible!""Catch him!""The elders will definitely reward us!"

Lorna raised her hand.

In an instant, all the guns flew out of Gerald's grasp.

Gerald and his subordinates froze in shock.

Several of Lorna's companions activated their mutant abilities and charged forward.

The vampires reacted quickly, relying on their speed and strength to surround them.

Lin Chen shook his head."Understood."

He took out the Fire Dragon Talisman and tossed it forward.

"ROAR—!"

A massive flame dragon appeared out of thin air. The temperature inside the castle skyrocketed as the dragon opened its jaws and swept through the vampires.

These low-tier Blood Clan members couldn't withstand fire at all.

In seconds, they were reduced to ashes.

Selene staggered back a few steps, staring at Lin Chen in fear."You're… terrifyingly powerful."

"Be scared," Lin Chen said casually. "You can consider becoming my maid."

"No chance!" Selene rolled her eyes. "Unless you give me a few drops of blood every day."

"Dream on." Lin Chen glared at her, then turned to Lorna. "Let's go."

Everyone began to leave.

Selene stood there dumbfounded."You're just leaving like that?"

"Can't bear to part with me?" Lin Chen smiled.

"I just want to drink your blood," Selene said seriously. "Why don't you give me a few drops before you go?"

"Get lost." Lin Chen felt a headache coming on.

He leaned closer and whispered,"I'll give you some free information. Be careful of Kraven. He's working with Lucian, the werewolf leader. And by the way—Lucian isn't dead."

Selene froze.

Lucian's supposed death was what allowed Kraven to rise within the Blood Clan.

But in truth, the two had never been enemies.

The amount of information hit her like a bomb.

Lin Chen didn't wait for a response. He took Lorna's hand and walked away.

They left the castle, commandeered two vampire vehicles, and drove toward London.

Along the way, Lin Chen learned that Lorna's group were members of an underground mutant organization. They had come to Europe to rescue imprisoned mutants, only to be ambushed.

Lorna sighed softly."It's not just the Sentinel Organization anymore. Even vampires are watching us."

Lin Chen nodded."New York is full of Sentinels, Homeland forces, and the Water Division. It's not safe. Why not go to Gotham?"

"Gotham?" someone asked hesitantly.

"There are criminals everywhere," Lin Chen said calmly. "Perfect for hiding in plain sight."

Lorna thought for a moment, then nodded."That makes sense. And I can bring food to the Daoist Master while I'm there."

The bearded man, Marcus, frowned."But Gotham's image doesn't really fit mutants…"

Lin Chen laughed."Image management is overrated. Carrying an idol burden is even worse."

Lorna shot him an annoyed glance.

They booked flights back to the United States for the next day—separately, for safety—and decided to move their base to Gotham first.

Lin Chen booked hotel rooms for everyone.

After showering and changing, Lorna took Lin Chen to the hotel bar.

Polaris had sharp features, a high nose bridge, bright green eyes, and an elegant figure. At 1.75 meters tall, with long straight legs and a natural queenly aura, she turned heads wherever she went.

Men openly stared.

Marcus watched their backs with a broken heart.

Someone patted his shoulder."Give it up. You can't compare to the Daoist Master. He's handsome, rich, and absurdly strong."

At the bar, Lorna fixed Lin Chen with her luminous green eyes.

"Master… I didn't expect you'd really come to save me."

"My beautiful creditor was in trouble," Lin Chen replied smoothly, raising his glass. "How could I not come?"

Lorna tucked her green hair behind her ear, revealing her delicate ear."When I was locked in that cell, I thought a lot. About what I'd regret most if I died."

Lin Chen unconsciously reached out and touched her hair."And?"

"I've been running my whole life," she sighed. "I've never even been in a relationship. Isn't that pathetic?"

Lin Chen met her gaze—it felt like staring into a forest."Falling in love isn't easy. Meeting a scumbag is even worse."

Lorna rolled her eyes."Master, what exactly counts as a scumbag to you?"

"Someone who's constantly surrounded by chaos and trouble."

Lorna picked up her phone and pretended to call someone."Hey, Hui, Lucy—my friend wants to date someone, but what if she falls for a scumbag?"

Lin Chen leaned over and answered,"He might look like a scumbag on the surface, but secretly be a good guy."

"But everyone says he's a scumbag," Lorna continued seriously, "and he has way more beautiful girlfriends than me."

"Tell your friend to try first," Lin Chen said, patting her head. "If it doesn't work out, just use him."

"That sounds dangerous," Lorna said with a smile."He's very powerful. If I use him, will he retaliate and accuse me of being irresponsible?"

Lin Chen laughed and leaned back."That's not certain. Who uses whom is still up for debate."

Lorna stared at him, smiling."Then I'll let my friend try?"

"Try first," Lin Chen nodded firmly.

They danced, drank, and returned to the hotel room—seriously discussing what hair color their black-haired and green-haired children might have.

Lin Chen mused that green hair on a boy named Nan Wanjing might be unlucky.

Lorna retorted that green-haired girls who fall for scumbags—like herself—had it worse.

The next morning, Lin Chen and Lorna emerged from the room looking slightly fatigued.

Marcus, heartbroken, ate breakfast in silence.

They said their goodbyes and went their separate ways.

Lin Chen and Lorna headed to the airport.

Just as they were about to board, Lin Chen spotted a familiar face—

Paul, the Holy See magistrate who had once accompanied Malena.
