Anna. Marcel gasped as he steadied his breath trying to breathe.
"I don't think she died, she must be unconscious," Vanessa said as if reading his thoughts.
She was right, the shock must have made Anna fall, the bullet had hit a glass vase close to the elevator's side table.
"What the hell do these people want from me? I am not owing anybody, and I didn't kill anyone." Marcel's armpit stained his white suit with sweat, just a testament to the misery he was in.
The elevator came to a halt revealing a room full of white satin clothes and foreign materials.
They walked in.
"We are not safe here" Marcel barked, "Find a way to call the police and keep me safe."
Vanessa removed her black leather jacket as she tied her boots. "I know we are not safe here sir, but be assured I will protect you no matter what." She tucked her gun into her back pocket, tied her long red hair in a long strand, and caught Marcel gazing at her.
"What?". Vanessa asked with a sharp tone as her lips twitched, looking at his lingering eyes.
Silence
"Just that, you are so beautiful, Vanessa." He lowered his green eyes as he stared at the ground beneath him.
Gosh, he is so childish, but although he was stupidly arrogant most times, she couldn't deny the fact that a bit of her was attracted to him. His looks were stupidly handsome, and he had the sort of body and aura that could lure a girl to him.
And for the first time, she grinned as her eyes blinked faster than usual. "He called my name."
A noise startled them as they glanced at the elevator.
Someone was coming. Vanessa's eyes went dark as Marcel looked in panic.
"Find somewhere to hide, I will deal with them," Vanessa removed her gun as Marcel hid in one of the cupboards lined with high heels.
The elevator door opened, and four men walked in holding their guns as they searched the room at a slow pace.
"Am gonna send you bastards to hell," Vanessa thought as she moved silently on the ground holding her pistol.
"Search the area," a voice ordered. "And make sure to put the bloody CEO to his untimely death once you see him."
Yes sir. The three men shouted as they moved between costumes lined on the wall.
Vanessa gnashed her teeth. She stood up and shot one of the henchmen in the back as he dropped to the floor, blood streaming from his mouth.
Heyyyyy the henchmen shouted as they shot sporadically in her direction.
Vanessa was quicker on the ground, using her combat skills to crawl and hide in a stack of white satin materials, she steadily held her breath from panting.
"Who the hell was that?". The first henchman looked at his dead companion.
"He was with a girl," the second one replied. The bodyguard he hired recently.
"A female bodyguard." He laughed loudly as he steadied his left hand on his companion's shoulder.
"That would be easy for us," he continued. "Kill them both." He ordered his voice mean.
The henchmen continued searching.
Vanessa stood up as she sent bullets rippling through the air, leaving two henchmen dead.
"You're not going anywhere until you tell me who you are, who you work for and why you want Marcel Davidson dead?." Vanessa had her gun pointed at the first Henchman, her eyes filled with resolve.
"Tough, huh?". He gave a wicked grin. "What an enchanting bodyguard, do you mind if I take you to dinner tonight?."
"Shut up, answer my question now." Vanessa tightened her grip on the trigger.
"Not happening," the henchman shot himself dead as his blood filled the shiny floor.
She lowered her gun. "What just happened" she muttered.
Marcel came out from hiding.
"Oh my, Vanessa you took them down." Marcel's face was lit with admiration and something else calm.
More are coming, Vanessa said in panic. We have to leave now sir.
"Oh spare me that." Marcel's face lit up in a grin, "call me by my name from now onwards." His face went grim. "That doesn't mean I like you or any sort, you're just a bodyguard, just no formalities."
He adjusted his tie.
Silence.
Vanessa nodded, "I hope he doesn't think he can sleep with me now.". She bit her lip, "I would send him to the grave myself."
Marcel hurried behind Vanessa as they ran to the elevator.
She clicked the elevator button as it closed. She stood a few metres away from him in the elevator as Marcel kept on checking his watch and glancing at her with his eyes secretly. The elevator roared upwards.
Silence.
"Why do I feel so tense?" She closed her eyes. "Why is he looking at me like that?"
Marcel stretched his arm. "You were really good out there Vanessa." His green eyes went soft as he looked at her.
Vanessa nodded. "For God's sake, don't get attracted to such a man," totally not my type of guy, and he's engaged, she thought. "Romance isn't my sort of thing. I was assigned to protect him."
She bit her lip, not to fall for him.
The elevator door opened.
Vanessa held her gun up as Marcel followed behind her. Walking slowly, they entered an office, which was large and had glass windows with marble desks and chairs, revealing a telephone.
Vanessa walked up to the telephone.
Hey, give me that Marcel ordered as he took the telephone from Vanessa's hand.
He dialled a number. Looking perplexed, he shook his head after looking at the telephone network bar.
"No connection, he muttered."
"Shit. What are we going to do, Marcel?"
Vanessa's voice was soft, like she was whispering. Marcel glanced at her.
"You are my bodyguard", Marcel barked. "Think of something."
"Yes, I am, and it was stupid of me to have asked him. I have to find a way to escape, the henchmen would do anything to kill Marcel."
She was distracted by a noise coming from the elevator's direction as she and Marcel looked in panic.
"Damn, not now," she thought. They were here.
