Chapter 7 - Chapter 7 - Unknown Enemy

"Damn hospital, the doctor had not allowed her to see Marcel because he was under extensive care, who cares?".

Gosh, she touched the bandage on her wrist and then her forehead.

"It hurts." She grimaced in pain.

She was walking to the reception area to fill out a form for Marcel's complaints and the incidents at the Mall.

The police had arrived, and it was a gruelling gun battle. They had taken in a helicopter and barged in, the henchmen were scared to death but didn't back down. Marcel was almost killed at the last second, but she had to do something; she had released herself from the pressure of the henchman holding her and kicked the henchman's boss.

He retaliated hitting her head hard on the ground and pointing his gun at her.

"His mask was torn just a bit, and I was able to see his eye; it was black and so scary to look at." She thought.

Luckily, the police had arrived in time and shot him dead, with several of the henchmen surrendering, but a few had been killed.

"I would like to fill a form for Mr Marcel, please. I am his bodyguard." Vanessa said looking at a fat woman wearing a black T-shirt with Big Boss written on it.

She glared at Vanessa.

"So you are that badass bodyguard of Mr Marcel Davidson, huh?." She brought out a form and gave it to Vanessa with a blue pen.

"Sign here." She offered it smiling.

Vanessa quickly wrote on the form, her eyes glancing sideways.

"I haven't heard of a female bodyguard before she continued."

"Of course you haven't," Vanessa thought.

I always wanted to do something meaningful for myself. Ever since I was in high school, I was so beautiful and talented that everyone thought I would be an actress or musician. But things don't always work out the way you expect. I always acted like a boy.

I would hang out alone because so many girls thought I was weird. I loved the gym rather than attending music classes, I practised judo and Martial arts rather than putting on makeup, and it made people freak out.

She closed her eyes.

I was gossiped about and treated as an outsider. Boys stayed away from me, and even my teachers would make fun of me. Why didn't I just do what normal girls did?

"Can you hear me?" the fat woman snapped her out of her thoughts.

"Yes… " Vanessa stammered looking for the right words.

"I joined the Security Taskforce for bodyguards when I needed money, and I love bodyguarding," she smiled as she swung her hair backwards.

Donald had walked into the hospital, his confidence and looks as superb as always. He waved at Vanessa walking up to her.

"Vanessa, how are you doing? Did the henchmen hurt you?". His face carried a worried look as he held Vanessa's left wrist bandaged.

Oh, Vanessa grimaced in pain as she held her hands back.

"I'm so sorry, Vanessa, I didn't mean to." His face carried a childlike look.

"How can Marcel be so rude and arrogant to his brother?" Vanessa thought as she smiled at him.

Clearly, Marcel was the most spoiled of all his siblings, but she badly needed to see him now.

"You came to see Marcel?."

"Of course", Donald replied, half interested as he adjusted the watch on his wrist.

"I mean, it's not like he would be happy seeing me, but he is my brother after all."

He smiled.

I would take you there.

Vanessa dropped the form on the woman's desk as she walked with Donald to see the doctor. They entered the doctor's office as he adjusted his glasses and looked at them.

"I am Donald Davidson, the brother of Marcel, and I would like to see him now." Donald spoke like he was speaking to a peasant and not a professional doctor.

"I am sorry to say but Marcel is in a critical condition right now." The doctor replied, sensing the harshness in Donald's tone.

Vanessa's face went pale.

"What do you mean, critical condition, sir?." She asked.

The doctor glanced at Vanessa like she had asked a very stupid question as he removed his glasses, a smirk on his face.

"Marcel had his head hit badly. We are trying our best to make sure he is in perfect condition before he goes home; otherwise, he could have very bad damage to his brain and spine. Worst of all, he could lose memories."

Lose memories, Vanessa muttered as her skin got cold.

"That has nothing to do with me, I want to see him this instant." Donald stood up with his eyes serious.

Alright.

The doctor stood up walking out as they followed behind.

"I hope Marcel is fine, he may be an arrogant, rude and bad person but I still have a job to protect him."

And why exactly is Donald acting this way all of a sudden?

She glanced at him as he followed the doctor behind, his hands in his pockets.

"Maybe it was his way of caring for his brother. His movements, gestures and words acted like he was forced to do this rather than having any form of empathy for Marcel."

She scratched her left shoulder.

"And what exactly is the feud he and Marcel have, she had to find out. I mean, Marcel's life is still in danger, the police were still running investigations on the arrested henchmen, but nothing had been found."

"One thing was for sure, she didn't trust anybody and that included Donald," he may be his brother.

She darkened her eyes as she walked past some men with crutches.

Even families had enemies.

They walked into Marcel's hospital bed in a dimly lit room, and he looked pale as he lay on it. His eyes were closed but he quickly opened them as his green eyes shone brightly.

"Vanessa is that you," Marcel muttered.

Something lightened up in Vanessa, she looked perplexed.

She hadn't realised all this while that even though she despised Marcel, no doubt she had grown attached to him, and it happened more often as she saw his life in danger.

Vanessa could see the animosity growing in Donald's eyes, like he was standing beside an archenemy.

"You can all go." Donald said not looking back, his hands still in his pockets. "I want to talk alone with my brother," he continued.

"I am sorry sir" Vanessa said, her face serious and voice firm. "But I can't leave Mr Marcel's side, no matter what."

Donald turned to her and grinned, but it didn't reach his eyes..

"You sure are one good bodyguard, but right now I want to settle out some things with my brother concerning the sudden assassination attempts, so please, Vanessa, could you leave?."

The doctor nodded his head at Vanessa and left.

Vanessa left reluctantly as she closed the door behind her, she walked a few metres forward when she glanced back.

A girl dressed in a black top and white skirt carrying a tray with items on it, looked sideways and then sideways again as she sluggishly entered Marcel's hospital room.

Vanessa came from her hiding spot as she clenched her fists, her jaw tight and marched forward.

"That wasn't a nurse. What the hell are you planning, Donald?" she thought.
