Chapter 19 - Ch.19

"..."

"Hey, Javier, I found a door here that doesn't need a key. I think we should go in and check it out," Rebecca said. She had been searching the main hall of the facility and had found a door that she could open freely. But since she didn't know what kind of dangers awaited her, she decided to call for Javier's help.

Meanwhile, Javier and Billy had found some clues in the lower part of the facility. Javier found a pile of damaged documents on a table. Since the facility had been abandoned for a long time, the words on the documents were either illegible or had been eaten away. He could only see bits and pieces of the text. But in horror games, damaged clues were a common thing.

"Wait a minute."

"I got it, Rebecca. Let me check this document first..."

"The purpose of the executive training facility... to train highly-efficient personnel for the Umbrella Corporation. Is this a pyramid scheme? Discipline, unity, power... Tsk, this is useless. Let's look at the bottom. Hmm... both meetings are classified as level five and will be held in the following locations: F1 West Operations Command Center, and F2 Southeast Conference Room. Hmm, these two clues seem more useful."

In a corner, Javier picked up the damaged documents and quickly scanned them. He finally found some crucial information in all the useless words. Two secret meetings were held here, one in the Operations Command Center on the first floor and the other in the conference room on the second floor. It seemed that they would find more useful information by going to those two places.

"Hey, Billy!"

"How are things on your side? If you're done... we're leaving. Let's go to Rebecca. There's no point in staying in the main hall. We should explore other places!"

After remembering the information on the documents, Javier looked up and called out to Billy, who was still searching. There was no point in staying here. It was better to explore and find more clues.

"I know..."

Billy nodded after hearing Javier and Rebecca. He took a wooden handle from a cabinet. His intuition told him that this vintage-looking crank, similar to a clock's winding key, would be useful later. This place was like a labyrinth, and everything required a puzzle to solve. Who knew if this was one of the key items? Billy put the handle in his pocket and quickly hobbled toward Javier and Rebecca.

The three of them soon arrived at the door that Rebecca had mentioned. It didn't need a key, but the dangers inside were unknown. They had to be careful!

"..."

"I'll take the lead, according to the plan. You two watch our sides and the ceiling. Watch out for any sneak attacks from behind."

Before opening the door, Javier put his gas mask back on and reloaded all his guns. He held the doorknob with one hand and a shotgun with the other, ready to fire at a moment's notice. He then gave Rebecca and Billy one last warning.

Although there were no high-speed monsters like Lickers in Resident Evil 0, there were still many dangers on the ceiling, such as giant crows that fed on rotten zombie meat and became extremely violent. There were also giant bats and baboons infected with the T-virus, as well as Plague Crawlers that looked like locusts. These were all Umbrella's early experiments, and they loved to jump down from the ceiling.

It was very important for Javier to tell Rebecca and Billy to watch the ceiling. He didn't want to get a Plague Crawler to his face. And these bugs were as big as large dogs, which was disgusting.

"Clang—!"

Javier opened the door after he was ready.

A long, dark corridor came into view. It was filled with spiderwebs and dust. The only light was from the moon shining through a window at the very end. The walls were lined with shelves filled with various items and bullets. He guessed that this was a storage room.

But... "Ugh... ugh... ugh..."

As soon as he took a step inside, he heard a familiar low growl. Just as he expected, a zombie in a military uniform slowly walked out from the corner of the corridor. It was wearing a tactical vest and a helmet. Its skin was pale and rotten, its eyes were white, and its face was covered with bite marks. It was staggering toward them.

Javier shook his head and gave the zombie a few well-deserved rounds from his shotgun.

"Boom—!!!"

With a loud bang, the trigger of the shotgun was pulled, and a few bullets hit the zombie's face. The zombie was sent flying a few meters back, and its bulletproof vest was completely shredded. The smell of rotten blood filled the air.

Javier recalled the zombie's slow movements and couldn't help but sigh. The zombies here were not well-fed. The speed of a zombie was partly determined by its species—Lickers, for example, were always fast—but usually by how full they were.

As he had explained before, the virus could greatly enhance the host's body functions and speed up their metabolism, allowing them to heal quickly. But the cost was a drastic loss of energy, which required the host to feed constantly. As long as they were alive, their only goal was to eat. When they had no food, the zombies would enter a dormant state, moving slowly to conserve energy. This military zombie, even after seeing them, was still moving slowly. It had probably been trapped in here for a long time and had no energy left.

That's why Javier was complaining about the lack of food in the facility. If they were outside, this zombie would have been an elite one, chasing people like a sprinter since there was plenty of food.

"Shh—!!!"

But at that moment, they heard a loud buzzing sound from above their heads. Two Plague Crawlers that were hanging on the ceiling suddenly opened their mouths and secreted a disgusting acidic liquid. They flapped their wings and used their scythe-like claws to attack them!
