Chapter 22 - Ch.22

Executive Training Facility

[Ding!]

[Cumulative kills: 50 zombies, 20 mutated bats, 2 zombie dogs, 8 Plague Crawlers, 20 mutated leeches. Total reward: 100 points. The central hall of the executive training facility has been completely cleared.]

[Congratulations on earning the "Bio-Hunter" title. Effect: Increases the probability of encountering zombies by 2%, and increases the probability of finding items and supplies by 1%. Keep up the good work!]

In the center of the first-floor hall, Javier was wiping the blood off his gas mask with a rag. He sighed in relief as he leaned against the wall. He was covered in blood and mucus from the zombies and Plague Crawlers he had just killed. He was exhausted, and his bulletproof vest had a tear in it. It seemed easy from the outside, but only Javier knew how close he had been to death.

After separating from Rebecca and Billy, Javier started clearing out the executive training facility. He cleared out all the rooms in the 1F hall and made sure there wasn't a single zombie left. Because of this, he was rewarded with the "Bio-Hunter" title. But Javier rolled his eyes when he heard the reward. "Bio-Hunter"? What was this, a video game?

The title's effect was also ridiculous. It increased the chance of encountering zombies by 2% but only increased the chance of finding items by 1%? That was too cheap. Did this mean he had to kill more zombies to get more items? What kind of title was this? It was a disaster for a beginner. It was a terrible deal to exchange a higher chance of encountering zombies for a 1% increase in items. Javier completely dismissed the title.

"I've used too many bullets. I have to be more careful now."

Javier took off his tactical backpack and felt it was much lighter than before. He had used a lot of bullets during his cleanup mission. If he wasn't more careful, he would run out of ammunition during the boss fight. He didn't want to encounter any more zombies. He was running out of bullets.

He had been too confident. Javier was not suffering from an inventory crisis but a lack of resources, which was embarrassing. But there was nothing he could do about it. He wasn't a hoarder. He used to think it was a waste to hoard bullets in games, only to find out he had a lot of them at the end. But now, he had to be more frugal.

His tactical backpack could hold 30 kilograms, but it only had some magnum bullets and a large green herb left. He had used up most of his shotgun shells and only had about 20 left. He had to save them!

"That's right..."

"I haven't used the can of gasoline from the storage room yet! I can make some Molotov cocktails. They might not be very effective against zombies, but they'll be great against the Plague Crawlers. I just hope I don't burn the whole place down."

As he was thinking about what to do, he remembered the can of gasoline they had found in the storage room. All he needed was an empty bottle and a rag to make a Molotov cocktail. The weapon was easy to make but dangerous. It could easily burn him. But he had no choice. Molotov cocktails were cost-effective.

During World War I and II, Molotov cocktails were the most practical weapons against armored vehicles and tanks. Even without proper chemical agents, they could be made with ordinary alcohol and gasoline. It was a practical weapon that anyone could use, from children to the elderly. So it was a good choice for Javier to use as a backup weapon. He was just worried about burning down the whole facility. Besides that, Molotov cocktails also did a lot of extra damage to insect-type BOWs, so it would be a good weapon for a boss fight.

Javier quickly made four Molotov cocktails with some empty bottles and rags. The rags were tightly sealed to prevent the gasoline from leaking. If the gasoline leaked on him and caught fire, he would be done for. Four Molotov cocktails should be enough.

As Javier continued to search the 1F hall, he found a new item in a forgotten room—a white microfilm with the letter "A" on it. It was hidden very well. It was probably a key item. He quickly took it.

He was surprised that the "Bio-Hunter" title was actually working. He had only complained for a little while, and it was already showing results. The probability of finding an item had increased by a lot, even though it was only 1%. He would take what he could get.

As for the 2% increase in encountering zombies... he didn't want to talk about it.

"Step, step, step..."

After he was sure that there was nothing else in the 1F hall, Javier left. The elevator that Rebecca and Billy had used required two people to operate—one person on the elevator and the other to turn the gears.

But Javier thought about it for a while and came up with a simple solution. He would tie a rag into a rope and wrap it around the handle. He had already tried it, and if the rag was thick and long enough, he could pull on it to move the elevator. He also wrapped another rag around his shoulder in case the elevator stopped working. If that happened, he could use the rag to swing on the chains like Tarzan.

He couldn't be left behind. Rebecca and Billy were the main characters. If they left him behind, he would become a background character just like the Beta team members. He couldn't let that happen. Although Rebecca had the ability to get her teammates killed, it was still better to be close to her. It was dangerous, but there was a chance of survival. But if he was far away from her, he would be doomed!

Meanwhile, Rebecca and Billy were working together, and their progress was going much faster. They had found many clues and items and were getting closer to solving the puzzles of the facility's labyrinth. They had even found the location of a key to the facility—in a large, abandoned pool.

The pool was covered in green moss, and the smell was disgusting. There was a large iron gate in the middle of the pool. This was probably where the facility discharged its sewage. The environment was filthy.

What Rebecca didn't know was that this was the home of a "gentleman." He was an expert at giving hugs, and if Rebecca were to lure him out, he would definitely give her a surprise!
