Chapter 26 - Ch.26

No hesitation.

After collecting all the items, Javier used his radio to contact Rebecca and Billy Coen, requesting a rendezvous to discuss their next move and strategy.

Javier was frustrated with the radio on his shoulder. The entire S.T.A.R.S. team had radios, but Javier had tried to contact all the other members, including team leader Enrico, without any response. He knew the complex terrain of the Arklay Mountains likely weakened the signal. The radios only worked reliably when people were very close, like Javier and Rebecca, who were operating within the same facility. Javier guessed that most of the Bravo team members were probably dead by now, with only one or two surviving.

He knew this was the price of being with the protagonists. Before the mission even started, Rebecca had essentially sapped most of the other team members' luck. It's a classic trope: spear-wielding characters often have E-rank luck. The rest of the world has eight units of luck, but a character like Zhao Zilong gets a whole unit to himself, leaving everyone else with a deficit. That was probably the passive ability of protagonists like Rebecca, who put a debuff on everyone else from the get-go.

Not to mention, the tough guy Edward Dewey was a pilot. In Resident Evil, the most dangerous job is undoubtedly being a pilot. They crash and explode all the time. If you reveal you're a pilot, you're almost guaranteed to die instantly.

Javier couldn't imagine how the Bravo team members could have survived. His small ripple effect was too weak to help them.

Executive Training Facility

"What's the situation?"

"What items did you find? Are you guys okay?"

The three of them regrouped in the center of the first-floor hall. Javier looked at Rebecca and Billy, who were covered in blood, and asked with concern.

Of course, it was all zombie blood. Rebecca and Billy were unharmed. As he'd noted before, the T-virus wasn't very powerful yet. Even after infecting a person, the zombies weren't as strong as they would be later. T-virus zombies were still slow, and you could easily clear them out with a handgun as long as you didn't panic.

Rebecca and Billy shook their heads, reassuring Javier they were fine. They took out the items they had found: Rebecca's white statue of goodness and Billy's microfilm B.

"This is an item I found in a painting room," Rebecca said, handing the white statue to Javier. "It's exactly like the black one you found in the storage room. This must be what the scale statue needs. But I noticed they're both missing a piece on their backs, so there must be something we haven't found yet."

Javier's eyes lit up when he saw the statue. He quickly took the pair of white wings from the Book of Goodness he had found and fitted them onto Rebecca's statue. It was a perfect match!

"Oh?"

"It fits? What are this book and wings?"

Rebecca was surprised. She had just guessed that the statue was missing a piece. She looked at the white book in Javier's hands, confused.

"I found this in a library. It's called the Book of Goodness," Javier explained. "It looks like the book and statue are a pair. We've found the complete white statue. Now we just need the wing for the black statue and the corresponding Book of Evil to get out of here."

The pace of their progress was suddenly much faster. They just needed one more item. But the Book of Evil didn't seem easy to find, as they had no clues.

"Wait, Javier, I have one more thing we haven't checked!" Billy chimed in.

"I know you have one too. It's this microfilm. I got it after solving a clock puzzle. It might contain important information. If we can play it, we might find a new lead. There must be a film projector somewhere in this facility; Umbrella wouldn't just leave this here for no reason."

Just as Javier and Rebecca were at a loss, Billy provided the key clue. Javier and Rebecca grew excited. As a supporting protagonist in Resident Evil 0, Billy always provided crucial help at the right moment.

Billy's suggestion made Javier remember an almost-forgotten detail:

"Two meetings with a security clearance of Level 5 will be held at the following locations: F1 West Operations Command Room, and F2 Southeast Conference Room..."

Yes, this was the information Javier had found on a damaged document when he first entered the facility.

Without a doubt, the conference room must have a film projector. Back in 1988, it was common for people to use projectors to present data and discuss it during meetings, much like a modern-day projector.

So, their one and only goal was now to head to the conference room.
