Chapter 57 - CHAPTER 57

Taboos of Black Magic: Necromancy

Harry, the portly man nearby, hurried over in alarm when he saw Alyssa's anger flaring.

"Alyssa, don't be like this. I was just joking with you!"

It was clear from his tone that he and Alyssa knew each other well.

Alyssa didn't argue, but her angry glare stayed fixed on Xu Mo.

Harry quickly interjected, his voice tight with urgency.

"Listen, the most important thing right now is to get out of here. The city isn't safe!"

Before his words had even settled, the sound of chaos rose in the distance — harsh, guttural roars echoing down the street.

In the blink of an eye, dense shadows came into view.

Harry's face drained of color when he saw the figures sprinting closer. He knew that posture all too well — rabid, frantic, inhuman.

Two unlucky runners at the front were ripped down in seconds, devoured by the pack.

The rest surged forward.

"Oh no—hurry!" Harry shouted, bolting toward the cab.

Alyssa froze, stunned at the horrifying sight.

Xu Mo, however, watched carefully. These weren't the slow, staggering zombies of movies — they ran with terrifying speed, as fast as Olympic sprinters. Escape on foot was nearly impossible.

Alyssa snapped out of her shock. She grabbed Xu Mo by the arm, dragging him toward the pickup.

Xu Mo glanced at her, surprised. Even in this panic, she hadn't abandoned him. That flicker of loyalty made him pause.

Then, with a gentle push, he shoved her into a portal that opened behind her.

A heartbeat later, Alyssa found herself in the back seat of the pickup truck, dazed but unharmed.

"You two, drive!" Xu Mo called out calmly, striding toward the incoming horde.

Harry's face twisted in shock as he slammed the engine to life.

"Xu, are you insane?!" he roared out the window.

But Xu Mo only kept walking.

Harry grit his teeth, jerking the wheel, about to drive back to intercept him—when he froze.

Xu Mo raised his hand and flicked his fingers.

The villa on the roadside trembled. Hundreds of nails ripped free from its wooden fence, hovering like a swarm of steel needles.

With another flick, they shot forward in a deadly cloud.

Each nail pierced eyes and skulls, guided with surgical precision.

In less than five seconds, the entire charging horde collapsed, brains destroyed, bodies skidding lifeless across the pavement.

Harry stared, jaw slack.

"Waterfuck…"

His worldview cracked in half.

He stumbled out of the truck and ran to Xu Mo's side, pointing wildly between him and the field of corpses.

"Xu… just now—what was—?!"

Xu Mo turned, his tone cool.

"This isn't a good place to talk."

Harry blinked, then nodded sharply. He realized the noise would only attract more.

The two rushed back into the truck, and with a roar, they sped away.

But Harry couldn't keep his eyes off Xu Mo in the passenger seat.

Xu Mo, meanwhile, was lost in thought.

Over 800 points in mere seconds…

A decent pace, but his body couldn't sustain prolonged telekinesis. Without reinforcement, it was wasteful and inefficient.

Unless…

His eyes sharpened.

Wait.

The Dark Book erupted from between his brows, pages flipping rapidly until they landed on a section he had only skimmed before.

Necromancy.

The most forbidden branch of black magic.

In the main universe, the Ancient One and the Vishanti would detect such energy instantly. Casting it there was asking for disaster.

But here? This wasn't the main world. No Ancient One, no Vishanti. Nothing to stop him.

The pages revealed a ritual: The Scourge of the Undead.

By erecting a massive circle across the city, he could transform all corpses — living or dead — into an undead army.

An army that would wipe out the zombies on his behalf.

His lips curved into a thin smile.

"That's it."

But it wouldn't be simple. To complete the formation, he needed special materials and five auxiliary circles at the city's edges.

Closing the book, Xu Mo glanced at his companions.

Harry finally mustered the courage to ask.

"Was that… magic?"

Xu Mo nodded once.

"Yes."

There was no point hiding it. Harry had risked his life for him twice now — once picking him up, and again nearly driving into danger to save him. That was loyalty worth acknowledging.

Even Alyssa had pulled him along in her panic.

Speaking of Alyssa—he noticed her leaning forward, eyes wide with excitement.

"Teach me! Do you think I have talent for magic?"

Xu Mo's face hardened.

"No. You're a Muggle."

Her smile froze.

He couldn't risk it. Without the Dark Book, she'd have to borrow power from darker sources — and that meant becoming a puppet of Chthon sooner or later.

Wait.

A thought struck him. If Chthon could lend magic, why couldn't the Dark Book?

With it as a power source — an endless well — maybe he could let others channel its energy under his control.

If they fought and killed with borrowed magic, surely those points would still flow back to him.

The idea burned in his mind.

He clenched his fist, resolve hardening.

I'll test this myself.
