When the door closes behind us and we're finally alone, everything goes crazy.
I'm still shaking from the garden. Still shocked by the kiss. I'm still not sure what that moment meant. But I saw him take Jennie up the stairs earlier today. I saw him kiss her with a lot of passion in front of me. He kissed me in the garden like I was the only woman in the world.
It's too much to hold back the hurt and confusion.
I raise my hand and hit him in the face without thinking. Hard.
The noise bounces around the room. My hand hurts. The impact makes Rio's head snap to the side.
There is complete silence for a moment.
Then he turns back to me, and his eyes are full of rage that scares me.
"How dare you," he says in a very low voice. Very controlled. That makes it worse in some way.
