Lina's point of view: It's still afternoon on the honeymoon.
We haven't gone back to work since we got to the villa three days ago. Rio said the business can wait. He said we should take this time to get used to our new home. I should have known it was a trap because it's the nicest thing he's said to me in months.
As I walk down the hall to the study, I hear voices coming from the sitting room. One of them is Rio. There is no doubt that the other is Jennie.
I shouldn't look. I know I shouldn't look. But I stop anyway and look around the corner.
What I see makes my heart stop.
On the couch are Rio and Jennie. Part of her dress is undone. His shirt isn't buttoned. His mouth is on her neck, and his hands are moving over her body with the same passion I felt for a split second in the garden that doesn't exist—the garden I imagined when I thought things might be different.
But they're not different. There hasn't been any change.
