Chapter 52 - HISD Chapter 52 City in Chaos

HISD Chapter 52 City in Chaos

Yi Meng stepped out of the basement where the containment object was stored and left the Supernatural Department without hesitation. No agent could stop him; even they could barely keep themselves safe.

Outside.

Thick white fog swirled and blanketed the modern city, blurring everything. Only dark silhouettes—neither clearly living nor inanimate—were visible.

Screams, roars, horns, sirens, falling debris, breaking windows, even gunshots—the entire city's cries reached Yi Meng with inhuman precision, pushing him closer to the persona of Doomsday within his mind.

The city was saturated with a tense, mysterious, eerie, and astonished atmosphere, all wrapped in the white fog.

Yi Meng hung the Ranni doll at his waist like a charm. As soon as he stepped outside into the fog, several flying creatures immediately targeted him.

Who was hunting whom?

Yi Meng's expression remained unchanged. His right hand's five fingers stretched straight, the thin gray-white exoskeleton covering his arm acting like a bone blade.

Hand rose, blade fell.

Like a flawless machine, Yi Meng repeated the lethal movements, each strike generating fierce gusts of wind. One by one, the flying creatures were decapitated and fell.

Within moments, all a dozen or so attacking creatures lay dead.

Yi Meng coldly looked at the others retreating, grabbed a half-bird-like corpse, and wiped the blood off the exoskeleton of his right hand.

"So, it really is… the Mist." Yi Meng murmured.

Seeing the malformed, venomous bird-like creatures, he confirmed that the fog and its denizens originated from the Mist.

The Mist was a sci-fi movie.

In the film, an experiment at a military base caused a fog to engulf a small town, and horrifying creatures from another world emerged within the mist.

The acid-blooded flying beasts attacking him now were one of those terrifying creatures from the Mist.

And there were far larger, stronger, and even more horrifying creatures from the Mist, including ones resembling Cthulhu.

"This city… is probably doomed…"

Recalling details from the Mist, Yi Meng speculated that the military base's experiment had connected the town's space with a Cthulhu-like dimension.

Hence, the fog and the influx of otherworldly creatures.

Now, Tianhe City was in the exact same situation.

Was the entire city connected to the invading dimension of the Mist?

If so, no one could stop the disaster—not even the homeland's most powerful forces.

This was at least an SSS-level invasion event.

"What does this have to do with me?"

Yi Meng stared at his left hand, also covered in gray-white exoskeleton.

His hands were clearly being assimilated by the Doomsday persona from his dream.

Even his personality.

Facing the Mist and its creatures, he felt no fear, only thrill in destruction.

The fog had turned the city into a hunting ground for interdimensional creatures.

For Yi Meng, now partially Doomsday, it was a paradise of destruction, making him eager to seek the strongest beings in the Mist, annihilate them, and savor the carnage.

The fate of the city? Not his concern.

"Dream Tifa."

Yi Meng whispered, glancing toward the city center covered in fog. A faint human warmth returned to his slightly reddened eyes.

There was only one person he cared about in the city.

He increased his pace toward the city center. Accelerating, he moved like a leopard, each stride spanning three to four meters, growing faster in the fog.

Perhaps the blood scent from the Mist creatures on him discouraged any new attacks; others fled at the mere sight of him.

The hunter had become the hunted.

…

Back in the Supernatural Department, first basement level, containment area.

Young agent Yingzi slumped on the floor. Ten seconds later, she gritted her teeth and stood up.

She had seen Yi Meng.

Realizing the fog wasn't toxic, she removed her gas mask and breathed in the cold, blood-scented air.

"I have to go up, save them."

She thought of her colleagues upstairs, still in danger, and climbed to her feet. As she prepared to leave the basement, a faint sound came from the empty room.

She turned abruptly.

A horn sound…?

…

In the Mist.

Yi Meng's speed in the city increased to that of a moving car. A clear cracking sound came as his canvas shoes split under his own force, leaving shallow impressions in the cement.

Looking down, he saw his feet encased in hard gray-white bone, muscles and tendons protruding.

The blood-soaked fog fueled his destructive impulses, accelerating the Doomsday assimilation.

He realized that at this rate, in less than three days he would lose all control and become full Doomsday.

Scanning the area, his eyes glowed faint red, and his vision sharpened.

Even in dense fog, he could see clearly over a hundred meters.

Less than ten minutes had passed since the fog enveloped the city.

Now.

The modern streets were empty. Vehicles collided or were abandoned against buildings. Smoke rose through the fog.

Blood, trash, corpses of humans and Mist birds, and even malformed chunks of creatures littered the ground.

Most humans outside had been hunted; many remained hidden indoors.

Yi Meng quickly assessed the situation. He hoped Tifa stayed inside to avoid becoming the first prey.

On his way to her residence, he heard gunfire a kilometer ahead, weakening but punctuated by final screams.

"Could it be…"

Within a hundred meters of the gunfire, Yi Meng leapt five meters high, landing on an unlit street lamp.

Fog concealed him; no one would notice him standing there.

Looking through the mist, he saw a squad of armed Supernatural Department agents led by a middle-aged captain.

Originally six, only two remained.

Before them stood a nearly five-meter-tall mantis-like creature.

Despite bullet holes, it screeched, advancing like a tank. Its giant mantis blade swung down, slicing through the air and an agent's body.

"Sir!"

The agent's scream cut short, blood splattering the captain.

The captain pulled the trigger but found an empty gun—magazine spent.

"Monster… invading monster…"

He dropped the weapon, looking around at his fallen team, and grimly smiled at the mantis blade poised above him.

"It's over."

Yi Meng watched coldly, uninterested in intervening.

They were strangers.

But then.

Yi Meng noticed something, his pupils turning slightly red. He could vaguely see inside the captain's body.

Something was awakening, breaking genetic chains, boiling blood like lava.

"Ahhhhh!!!"

The captain's face twisted into a triangle, his body ballooning and expanding.

Under Yi Meng's indifferent gaze, the captain collapsed and emerged as a triceratops!

Yes, a living Cretaceous triceratops.

The highest-ranking officer of Tianhe City's Supernatural Department had transformed into a triceratops.

Yi Meng's pupils contracted. His thoughts raced, connecting the dots.

He murmured, "Two hundred years ago, a dragon soared in the east…"

So that was it.

Besides the visible guardian Dragon Maiden, there really was a dragon hidden in the eastern jurisdiction, controlling the federation from the shadows.
