HISD Chapter 54 Yi Meng and Dream Tifa
Tianhe City, downtown.
The fog hung thick, countless massive unknown creatures moving through it. Some were the size of vehicles, others like small hills. The entire modern city had become a living hell, with screams and violent noises erupting from all directions.
In the expensive mansion district, every inch of land was precious.
A dozen military tanks and armed vehicles moved slowly through the streets, pushing aside civilian cars and firing shells and bullets to repel the monsters in the fog.
Click, click.
The armored convoy stopped in front of a private mansion's iron-gated entrance.
"Hold position!"
A fully armed local officer stepped out from the passenger seat.
After about ten seconds, two butlers opened the iron gate of the mansion.
The front door opened, revealing a middle-aged man in a suit with graying temples, escorted by two bodyguards.
"You must be Mr. Meng, Chairman of Dream Century Tech Industries."
The officer saluted and said in a deep voice, "I am a colonel stationed in Tianhe City. I am here to ensure the safety of you and your family."
Mr. Meng visibly relaxed, glancing at the dense fog swirling around. "That's a relief. With you here, we can feel safe."
The colonel nodded and quickly urged, "Please pack immediately and evacuate with us."
"Evacuate?" Mr. Meng's face turned serious again. "Is the situation really that bad?"
"Things aren't optimistic. We are organizing survivors toward the military base in the eastern part of the city and will escort them out safely."
The colonel did not hide the truth—this was a city-wide crisis, impossible to conceal.
He pressed on, "Prepare quickly. Besides you, we are responsible for evacuating many other survivors in the city!"
"I understand."
Recognizing the urgency, Mr. Meng hurried back inside the mansion.
Inside, a middle-aged lady emerged from the basement, supported by a young man. A white-collar woman and a black-haired girl followed.
"Dear, what's happening outside?"
The middle-aged lady looked anxiously at Mr. Meng, whose face was grave.
He scanned everyone and sighed, "The military is evacuating us to the eastern base, then out of the city."
"…This…"
Silence fell. Evacuating the city showed how serious the situation had become. Even the military could not fully handle the mysterious threat controlling the city.
Mr. Meng smiled, calm and steady. "Then let's go. Life is more important. We have other businesses in other cities; we can start over if needed."
The lady agreed, "Right. We'll take only essential items; leave the heavy stuff behind."
Decision made: evacuate the city with the army.
Suddenly, a clear, confident female voice interrupted, "You go east. I'm heading south."
Everyone's faces changed. They looked at the black-haired girl with confusion and concern.
"Miss!"
Chen Hong was anxious, knowing "Yi Meng" was being contained in the south of the city.
"I just need a car," Dream Tifa said firmly.
Her clear, calm gaze settled on Mr. Meng.
"I understand."
Mr. Meng closed his eyes, then opened them and handed over a set of car keys, lowering his voice, "Thank you for your help three years ago."
"I should be the one thanking you. You gave me a home in this world."
Tifa smiled slightly, pocketed the keys, and walked toward the underground garage.
"Father, Mother! It's too dangerous outside! You can't let her go alone!"
The young man pleaded.
Mr. Meng shook his head, voice firm, "You know her. Once she decides, nothing will change her mind."
The middle-aged lady sighed, regretful, "She would leave us eventually anyway."
"Damn it!" Chen Hong stomped but ran after the girl.
…
Five minutes later.
Under the astonished eyes of soldiers, an SUV emerged from the underground garage and sped into the white fog.
Nearby, Wang Xuan, preparing to evacuate with the army, caught a glimpse of the girl in the driver's seat. He froze, then laughed maniacally, "She's insane, she really is insane!"
The SUV drove onto an empty road, disappearing into the thick white mist.
"This fog… I can barely see!"
Chen Hong gripped the wheel tightly, trembling with fear but focused on avoiding obstacles.
Tifa beside her sighed, "Chen Aunty, you don't need to come with me."
"Don't talk nonsense!" Chen Hong gritted her teeth, "I've said it before. The only thing I've ever wanted is to see you safe and happy."
Before she finished, the SUV almost collided with a mysterious creature emerging from the fog. The windshield cracked, streaked with blood.
"What is that?"
Chen Hong panicked, instinctively wanting to stop.
"Keep driving!"
Tifa leaned in and pressed the accelerator with her long, slender leg.
The SUV wobbled forward through the fog. Something scraped the rear, leaving a shocking tear.
Chen Hong, still terrified, kept driving.
Heading south, they moved away from the artillery sounds.
The farther south, the less human activity. Eventually, it seemed they were alone in the fog.
Chen Hong adapted to driving through the mist, dodging obstacles. But the fog ahead thickened like a solid barrier, slowing the SUV.
"That's spider silk!"
Tifa's eyes widened, reacting quickly.
Chen Hong saw the white threads covering the SUV, blending with the mist to form a perfect trap.
"Reverse!"
Tifa was fast, but too late. The SUV was trapped, black spiders the size of adult cats crawling over it.
The spider silk and spiders encased the vehicle densely.
"Miss, it's my fault!" Chen Hong shouted, horrified and regretful.
"Don't give up! We'll survive!"
Tifa reached into her pocket as if pulling something out.
Then, chaos erupted.
Bang!!
The ground collapsed beside the SUV as a heavy object fell nearby. The adult-cat-sized fog spiders scattered like a tide, retreating into the mist as if afraid of something terrible.
"What happened?" Chen Hong was confused.
Tifa stared out the window, seeing a figure approaching through the mist, silver light flickering.
Without hesitation, she pressed the unlock button, bent her long legs, and kicked open the spider-covered door.
"Miss!?"
Chen Hong shouted in shock.
The black-haired girl rushed out and threw herself into the approaching figure's arms.
"You found me… I knew you'd come!"
Tifa hugged him tightly, her eyes sparkling.
"No way… it's him…"
Chen Hong stared, stunned. The figure was Yi Meng.
Seeing him, her face froze with horror.
The silver-haired boy's arms were covered in gray-white exoskeleton, his shoes gone, his pants torn to shorts. His exposed legs were armored in the same exoskeleton.
A tiny magical doll hung from his waist, yet he was terrifying and bizarre. The exoskeleton extended from his neck to his face like a partial bone mask.
The armored exoskeleton followed his lean physique perfectly, like a second skeleton. Bone spikes jutted from his arms and back.
Half-human, half-bone monster—that was his current form.
Yi Meng inhaled the faint scent of Tifa's hair. His red eyes softened, rational silver light emerging, his exoskeletoned hands gently holding her.
"Yes, I found you."
To see her once more before losing himself to Doomsday completely, it was not bad.
