Chapter 25 - GTAG Chapter 25: Category Seven Kaiju

GTAG Chapter 25: Category Seven Kaiju

No one could guarantee they'd make it to safety before humanity managed to kill the Kaiju with weapons.

Even with the walls now built, it was still necessary to keep at least one or two Jaegers ready to deploy.

The only problem was the money—were Jaegers really that expensive to maintain?

What they didn't know was that inside the Shattered Dome, there weren't just one or two Jaegers being maintained, but four.

[Cherno Alpha] [Gipsy Danger] [Crimson Typhoon] [Striker Eureka]

These were humanity's last four Jaegers—its only hope.

Inside the base, the Jaeger pilots already knew the general's plan.

They agreed with the idea of destroying the wormhole.

But the problem was, they had no chance to act.

With Godzilla patrolling around the wormhole, they didn't dare make a move.

Even if they had forty Jaegers, they weren't sure they could win against Godzilla.

Unless they fired nuclear weapons continuously, there really wasn't any other way they could think of to deal with him.

And honestly, even nuclear bombs might not kill Godzilla.

At best, they could try to use a nuke to trigger Godzilla's internal reactor, making him blow himself apart.

But they didn't have nearly enough nuclear weapons for that.

Then, today, the deafening sirens blared again through the base.

The wormhole, quiet for a month, had reactivated.

"What's the situation at the wormhole? How many Kaiju came through?"

The general rushed to the control room.

The technicians stared wide-eyed at the data on their screens, unable to believe what they were seeing.

"Answer me, soldier." The general barked when one of them froze.

"Yes, sir." The man snapped back to himself, his voice trembling. "A Kaiju just crawled out of the wormhole. Its size can't be predicted yet, but the readings suggest… it's a Category Seven Kaiju!"

Gulp.

Silence instantly filled the room.

Just a month ago, Kaiju coming through were only Category Four. How had one suddenly jumped to Category Seven?

Such a huge leap?

"General…"

Everyone turned toward their backbone, their leader.

"Don't panic," the general said calmly, and his composure helped them all breathe a little easier. "That monster isn't here for us."

He was looking at Godzilla, who was prowling thirty kilometers away from the wormhole.

It wasn't just them who noticed the disturbance—Godzilla had sensed it even earlier.

As Godzilla turned and swam toward the wormhole, the Category Seven Kaiju slowly forced its way through.

Yes—forced its way through. It looked like it had to squeeze out of the wormhole.

When it fully emerged, the instruments around the wormhole finally gave the humans a clear picture.

It was over five hundred meters long, its body shaped like a massive serpent.

But unlike a serpent, it had powerful limbs.

It looked more like a gigantic lizard.

Its front muscles were far more developed than the rear.

And on its head, a long blue horn jutted out, sparking with arcs of electricity. That horn clearly wasn't just for ramming.

When the horned Kaiju emerged, the alarms didn't stop. Moments later, three more Kaiju crawled out.

All three were Category Six.

Together, these four Kaiju had enough destructive potential to devastate Earth.

Even if humanity somehow killed them all, most of Earth would be uninhabitable—perhaps all of it.

The only relief was that the four Kaiju weren't heading for humanity.

From the moment they emerged, they charged straight toward Godzilla.

Godzilla spotted them too.

He didn't know their exact categories, but he knew they weren't Fours or Fives.

They were simply too massive.

Even the smallest was over three hundred meters long.

Their thick armored hides made it obvious—they were heavily defended. What special powers they might have was unknown.

Instead of attacking immediately, the Kaiju slowed down when they saw Godzilla.

The largest stayed in front, while the other three fanned out to the sides, trying to surround him.

Godzilla ignored the smaller three, keeping his gaze fixed on the horned one.

The sparking electricity on that horn gave him a strong hunch—the lizard Kaiju could unleash lightning at any moment.

If it was only electricity, that wasn't a problem. Godzilla could do that too.

He could even unleash fire or freezing breath, if he wanted.

Earth genetics and alien DNA alike had given him such possibilities. He just hadn't bothered—those attacks were too weak for his taste.

But if this Kaiju really could channel lightning, Godzilla was curious.

As he closed the gap, the horned lizard surfaced, glaring coldly at him.

When Godzilla was less than a kilometer away, the horn lit up, glowing blue.

Then—

A blinding bolt of lightning shot forth, striking Godzilla beneath the waves.

Inside the Shattered Dome, everyone watching through satellites held their breath.

They hadn't imagined Kaiju capable of such power. If that lightning had struck a Jaeger, could it even survive?

They didn't know.

But more importantly—they wanted to know how Godzilla had fared.

And Godzilla? He was fine.

The lightning made him tingle, sure, but that was it.

No real damage at all.

Which only disappointed him further.

It wasn't that the attack was weak—it was powerful.

The problem was, he was simply too strong.
