GTAG Chapter 39: Alien Predator?
"!!!"
Cage jolted upright from a pile of gear as though waking from a nightmare.
He glanced around and realized he was once again inside the military camp. His emotions were complicated.
After enduring countless mornings like this, Cage already knew how to handle it.
He calmly stood, dusted off his uniform, and silently followed the sergeant.
But this time, a spark of hope flickered in his hollow eyes.
Whether it was Godzilla's sudden appearance or the words of that mysterious woman, both gave him reason to believe.
What he feared wasn't the loop itself—it was an endless, unchanging loop.
············
"ROAR!!!"
Godzilla's furious bellow echoed across the seas.
Every creature that heard it could feel the rage within that voice.
He had been so close—just a fraction away from seizing his prey—only to fail at the final moment.
And that woman… what was she?
Why try to kill Cage?
Weren't humans supposed to live together in unity? Why did they suddenly turn on each other?
And Cage—how could you just stand there and die? Couldn't you dodge?
No matter how furious he was, Godzilla could not change the fact that time had reset once more.
Though not native to this world, Godzilla's mastery of spacetime allowed him to retain his memories with each reset.
But even his power couldn't keep him anchored to the same place when the loop restarted.
Damn it. If he'd known this world would be such a headache, he would have waited until his control over time was stronger before coming here.
Yet to abandon this world now? That, he could not accept.
And besides, Godzilla was obsessed.
If he didn't crush Omega into dust, his mind would never be at peace.
After venting his frustration above the waves, he swam back toward the shore.
But before land came into view, his vision blurred, and once again his colossal form was dragged back to the starting point.
"..."
By now, Godzilla wasn't even surprised.
With Cage's reckless nature, it was no wonder the human died at every turn.
Grinding his teeth, Godzilla swam again toward the battlefield.
One way or another, today he would find Cage, keep him alive at his side, and once Omega was revealed—tear it apart!
He wasn't joking.
············
After dying who knew how many times, Cage finally met the woman who had told him to find her.
In the camp, she was legendary—known to all as the Valkyrie, the "Full Metal Warrior," Rita Vrataski.
Through their conversations, Cage learned the truth about his strange ability.
But for the deeper answers, he had to seek out another—the true expert: Dr. Carter.
From Carter, Cage learned the origin of everything—Omega.
He also learned that if he died enough times, eventually he would discover Omega's location.
But what about that other presence on the battlefield—the colossal beast? Even Carter couldn't explain it.
Just when Cage feared Rita and Carter thought he was delusional, hearing voices and imagining monsters, Carter's words snapped him back.
"Cage, listen. That giant creature may not be of Earth at all. Like the aliens we face, it likely comes from the stars. And its target… could very well be Omega."
"O… Omega?" Cage repeated in disbelief.
It was one thing for Rita, who had lived through the loops herself, or for Carter, an expert in this field, to believe in the time resets.
But a towering beast over a hundred meters tall? Surely that was just his dying hallucination. And yet—they believed him?
"Wait, shouldn't a creature that size be impossible?" he asked.
"Cage," Carter said solemnly, resting a hand on his shoulder. "You must understand—our world is small. Compared to what exists above, Earth is but a speck of dust. In this universe, the existence of such beings is not impossible. We should not reject them—but accept them."
"Fine… please continue."
Cage addressed him with newfound respect.
"That creature is most likely drawn here by Omega. If Cage's account is accurate, then such a massive being must be a top predator of the cosmos. A unique entity like Omega attracting other hunters is only natural."
"But you don't need to dwell on it. For now, we're still safe. How that creature is dealt with—that isn't our burden."
Carter was right.
As long as Omega remained undefeated, time would always reset. Within that loop, no matter how powerful Godzilla was, his impact would be limited.
The best outcome would be killing Omega. With its prey gone, the monster might simply leave Earth.
The worst? Either Omega is slain, and the world is left to battle the creature itself… or Omega survives, humanity falls, and all that remains is a clash between the alien predator and Omega.
But by then, it would no longer matter to them.
Compared to Carter's worries, Cage and Rita focused on only one thing—training.
Before, Cage had cut down aliens with ease on the battlefield.
But that wasn't skill—it was memory. He had memorized every enemy position across countless resets, carving survival into instinct.
In truth, he had no formal training.
So Rita crafted a merciless regimen, exploiting Cage's ability to reset time.
Anyone else would have died a hundred times over.
Only Cage's curse made such training possible.
