Chapter 4 - Chapter 2: The council

"What do you mean surrender?!" Leo hobbled forward as he stared at the council heads. There were 3, 1 had a masculine voice as did 2, and the 3rd had a more feminine voice. He clutched onto his crutch like a lifeline, his body still weak from the beating the Kraang leader had brought on him.

"The Yokai race does not have the resources or arms to fight the human race." The third head explained once more. "It would be best to surrender. They blame us for the invasion of the Kraang, fighting would do more harm than good."

"So what do we do when we do surrender, huh?! Admit to something we didn't do?!" Leo snapped, shaking with rage.

"Something YOU did." The first head corrected, his voice stern and angry.

"I- How did you-" Leo looked around, stunned. How did they know he was the one who let the key be opened?

"We have eyes on the human city at all times." The second head explained, the anger in his voice growing with each word. "We know how you first caused a dangerous car accident in the streets of the city, sabotaged your own effort to recover the key to the Kraang prison, and instead of warning the humans through your human friends, you attempted to confront the foot clan by yourself and endangered not only your life but your brother's in the process! And then while fighting the Kraang, you caused billions of dollars of damage to multiple buildings, and afterwards you ran from the authorities multiple times! Not to mention the amount of trespassing and breaking in and entering charges! NEED I GO ON?!"

"And we aren't even going to begin with the time you released the shredder, yet another cost of the Kraang." Head #3 added.

Leo felt his heart sink. It was true. He wasn't going to pretend it wasn't. The council of heads had presented to him just how much damage he had really done. How many people had died during the car crash? The buildings thrown? And even during the Shredder, how many people had died before he was stopped? And his brothers, they could be blamed too. Leo looked back at his brothers, who all shared the same grim and defeated expression. And then the realization hit Leo like a truck.

"...Why didn't you help?" Leo asked quietly, not turning around to face the heads.

"What was that?" Head #2 inquired.

"Why didn't you help us?" Leo slowly turned around. He felt as if fire flowed through his veins. "You had eyes on us the entire time. Why didn't you come to help? When the Shredder was released, when the Kraang was released, why didn't you help us stop them?!"

"We do not meddle in the affairs of the human world." Head #1 answered, looking down his nose at Leo.

"The Kraang could have found the undercity! The Shredder could have found it! Even if you didn't go up to the city, both were a threat to you! You could have stopped them before they did the damage they did!" Leo accused. His brothers, they were hurt. Scarred for life, and these heads could have stopped it. "You say you look out for the Yokai kind and yet you didn't look out for us! Are we not mutants? Are we not Yokai enough for you?!"

"No." Head #3 answered coldly. "YOU are the result of that mad doctor, Baron Draxum, and you're beginning to sound like him too."

"Good! Maybe Draxum was right!" Leo snapped, hobbling further towards them. "The humans were going to find this place one way or another, and waiting for it only made it worse. This is your fault!"

"Leo, maybe we should go." Leo felt Raph put his hand on Leo's shoulder. Leo turned to look at his big brother. Yet all he saw was Raph's blind eye, damaged from the Kraang's infection. He looked back at the rest of his brothers, yet all he could see was their injuries. Their scars.

"No." Leo refused, shaking his head. "They need to see what they did, they- they need to see how much damage that-"

"Leo!" Mikey snapped suddenly. "It's not their fault! It's- ...It's your's. You're the one who didn't catch the key."

"But they could have stopped the Kraang!" Leo protested. "They could have stopped it before you were hurt!"

"We need to talk about this more in private." Raph decided. "You're upset, you're not thinking straight. Lets just head home and think ab-"

"HOME IS GONE!" Leo shouted, tears pricking his eyes. "HOME IS GONE AND THEY DON'T CARE! We have no home! Not anymore, not while the humans blame us for what happened."

"We're going back to the hotel then." Donatello reasoned. "And we're going, whether we have to drag you there or not. Raph, pick him up."

Before Leo could protest anymore, Raph scooped Leo up in his arms. The brothers walked out of the room, as Leo watched as his last excuse was locked away behind doors.
