*Alex Breckton POV*
*Year: December 6th, 1992*
*Location: Underground Lab, Alaska*
Exploring the large door first, I opened it up to see that it was just a very large room with nothing beyond the light gray metallic walls. Probably for when he started going with bigger biological experiments, hell, I wouldn't be surprised if he tried to make a Kaiju or something like that one day. Wouldn't be surprised if that little fact was what would kill him one day. Oh well, I may not know everything about Worm, but I knew enough about Shards to understand their basic drive.
Conflict...that was literally it, they pushed their users to fight and contiune to fight until they found a way to make endless energy to survive. Or something like that anyway, never could figure out the full story behind that, as I mostly read tidbits of it, but never really cared for the webnovel. Even then, that knowledge probably wouldn't be useful here in this specific version of Earth Bet, or well, whatever Earth it was called now.
Hell, for all I knew, they called this Earth, Earth Alpha or Omega, or something completly different, or hadn't discovered Earth Aleph yet at all. Never was clear on the whole timeline of when certain things were discovered or what have you. Either way, this room was pretty much empty, so I exited it and began looking around a bit. I went to the last door on this level and saw an elevator, and when I entered it, I saw that it only had two buttons, both with unique labels on them. The first one was "Lab", which I'm guessing was where I was currently at, and another labeled "Entrance", which was pretty self-explanatory.
That would be its own thing later, as I went back inside, going up the stairs to see what the two unmarked rooms had in them and what cleaning supplies/materials I was working with. Looking inside the cleaning supplies closet first, I saw that it was just your standard issue paper towels, bleach, toiletries, and other basic cleaning stuff alongside some stuff specific to a lab setting, I'm guessing. I then went to the materials room, which...was completly empty, basically with only a few pieces of lab equipment and some...random hunk of junk or something like that.
Either way, it was pretty much what I expected to see, so I moved on to oen of the unmarked rooms. When I entered, I saw that it was a big old bedroom with a comfy bed to match as well and a connected bathroom, well, to the back of the room anyway. Either way, I would need to clean it up a bit and get actual cloths for myself once I figure out if the device I had was actually a portal maker. Sorting through the various drawers, I basically saw a whole bunch of gigantic clothing/underwear, and socks.
Well, if none of the clothes needed them or wanted them, I would just sell them off or something, either that or burn them. Either option worked for me, and taking a quick peek at the bathroom, it was a pretty standard one, with a shower, toilet, and cabinet filled with standard bathroom stuff, alongside some extra shampoo and toilet paper.
Exiting the room, I moved on to the last room of the place and opened it up, not really sure what I'd see. Once I did...I was honestly shocked at what I saw. It was a room filled to the brim with various cases and other crap that would be better suited for the materials room. However, I also saw three things, three items that popped into my mind the moment I saw them. It was a black mask with two angel wings covering the eyeholes; well, they had little holes in them to see out of. Alongside that was a black t-shirt with dozens of eyes over it and two wings on the back. Then there were the black pants, regular old black pants.
Nearby was about 5k in cash, meaning that these were probably three items from the CYOA. Meaning these were my Cape mask and outfit, which probably meant they were far sturdier than your typical clothing, and I could probably guess why he brought this stuff here. This was probably where he put special materials or stuff he didn't know what to do with/wanted to test on.
That stuff I'd leave there for now until I was better...situated and sorted through the other shit he had. Some of it was labeled "samples" with a number next to it. I would properly dispose of that shit later, although I could guess he sent my samples to someone else to test on and experiment with. I left that stuff in the black briefcase I found it in, making a mental reminder to myself to burn it later.
Because let's be honest, when you have a crazy biological tinker lab at your disposal, you burn any possibly organic shit you find. I didn't want to know what it was, nor did I want to know what the hell was in it. All I knew was burn and forget about it; the rest of the stuff was pretty standard laboratory equipment, some stuff for building what I'm guessing is tinkertech, and other shit like it. Pretty sure if this place were any more disorganized, I'd have called him a hoarder or something like it.
Either way, I was pretty much done exploring the inside of this place, and now...now it was time to explore the outside and see what I was working with. That and see if there are any more rooms connected to the one I was just in afterward. See if I missed anything afterward, but the sooner I saw just where I was, the sooner I could actually start working on the portal maker and actually test some of the shit I had. I mean, sure, I knew how to use both Bang and Bomb's martial arts, and how to combo someone till their bones broke, and basic knowledge of how to use my AT field (Absolute Terror Field), but I would need to start building my reputation eventually.
Get people to actually listen to me and the shit I needed to actually start producing some of the mechs and espers. Hell, I'm pretty sure Sakuradite could function as a safer alternative energy resource...possibly anyway. Alongside the fact that this shit isn't tinkertech, no shards required to use this stuff, meaning it will be around long after I'm dead. Although...that really begged the question of how long I'd live, I mean, the angels from Evangelion only died due to unnatural causes, so if one lived like a human, how long would they survive?
Going down the stairs, I went straight for the elevator and pressed the entrance button. Immediately, the door closed, and I went up immediately. Surprisingly enough, no elevator music, although I guess that was one of the perks when you owned your own private building, you could have elevator music or not have it. I would admit, though, it was a little weird that I was basically taking all of the dead guys' stuff when his corpse wasn't even cold yet, well, not ice cold anyway.
The elevator stopped soon enough and greeted me with a large, singular dark greyish room, with a large door that I'm guessing led outside. Flipping a switch, I was immediately greeted with a freezing cold breeze and a whole bunch of snow. I immediately grabbed myself and started shaking, not used to the cold weather and the sudden surprise of it too, I mean, I saw snow earlier, but I thought that was from something else. Maybe like a freezer or something else, but clearly, his former base, now mine, had a leaking problem somewhere.
Almost immediately, I took a quick peek around and saw a bunch of spruces, I'm guessing, or just trees in general, tall ones as well. Which told me nothing, and I immediately closed the door back up, now regretting the fact that he didn't tell me where I was. Meaning that for right now, until I could figure out if I was in Alaska, Russia, or name any other cold place, I was pretty much stuck. Well, I could just start typing in random coordinates till I found a place that speaks English...or had good food, whichever came first, because this place was...pretty barren in that department.
Either way, the moment I went back into the main laboratory, I gathered the cash, mask, and cape costume. I got basically everything that was probably mine, or at least it now was, and went to the bedroom, laying it all on the bed. I sighed as I began gathering all his clothes, putting them into a neat little pile, deciding to figure out what to do with that stuff later. I then grabbed the portal maker out of my pocket and sat on the edge of the bed, debating if I should try to use it now instead of later.
"Really wished whoever version of me filled that CYOA, gave me a phone, computer, or literally anything that could tell literally anything of where I am."
"At least tell me what year it is so I should know what to expect and how majorly I'll derail the canon timeline."
Sighing to myself, I leaned backwards, falling on the bed, and just ran my hand across my face, frustrated. Although I guess canon timeline had already been derailled, who knows by how much, and even then...well, I'm guessing there would be other surprises waiting for me as well. Well, and the rest of the world, since I'm guessing that some of the changes weren't going to be small. Nope, I'm guessing something involving me and the endbringers was probably going to pop up as well soon enough, or something related to them anyway.
Even then, I barely knew the specifics of those beasts; I mean, I knew a straight-up fight with Behemoth was ill-advised at least with a mech that is, no idea how it would react to certain esper abilties nor the terror field I had now. Leviathan would be a bit... trickier, sure, he was faster than his older brother or whatever they were to each other, but still, his control over water would be hard to counter, although I do wonder what would happen if I removed that from the equation.
Then came the Simurgh, a being that can't see the present but instead the future, messes with your mind, and a whole lot of other stuff. Honestly...I don't really have any idea how I would approach her in the first place. I mean, would the "Blank" and "Mental Barrier" perk help against her or just force them to try harder?
I slapped my forehead in frustration and just closed my eyes, choosing to just... relax for a few minutes, to understand just what the hell led to all this. The party I went to, the bus I got, and then bam, I was here, nothing more and nothing less. Didn't feel anything strange happen to me, either physically or mentally. I felt a few tears crawl down my face as I mourned my last life, and the fact that this new one was probably going to be a hell of a lot of work.
Once I was done relaxing, I sat back up and grabbed the portal maker, then I just stared at it. Kind of debating whether or not I should start typing in random coordinates, see if I could find someplace that spoke English or had a clothes/grocery store nearby so that I could actually get a resupply of clothes, food, and well, anything else that came up.
"Really wished I had a montage perk or something like that." I muttered to myself as I turned the machine on and punched in a few coordinates.
