LUCILLE'S POV
He was right behind me as we entered the room, I can't describe how I felt. I was so mad at him for what he did earlier, but I was willing to forgive him if he explained himself to me.
ROMEOS POV:
Half an hour, and all we talked about was concerning the project work. Anytime I try bringing up what happened, she pretends she didn't hear me.
When we were finally done, she stood up, grabbed her stuff and was about to leave when I held her hand.
"Please Lucille, just a minute, listen to what I have to say", I said facing her.
"I don't want to hear it Romeo, I think I've heard enough from you today", she said.
"I'm sorry okay, I'm so so sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you Lucille. I was.. erm, I was..", I couldn't finish my statement.
"You were what Romeo?, tell me!", she yelled crying.
"I was confused okay, I'm still confused. I don't know if what I feel for you is love or it's just me caring too much about you", I said wiping her tears.
"So why didn't you tell me? Why did you have to say it infront of everyone? I just finished.. I just finished..", she couldn't complete what she was saying, she suddenly fell on her knees and began to cry.
I hugged her tightly and kissed her forehead, I hate myself for making her cry. I stayed with her till she was okay to leave.
"I'll drop you off Lucille, I'm not going to change my mind even if you say no. I insist!", I said helping her up. She smiled and hugged me.
"I don't know why you did what you did Romeo, but I know you're always there for me. Thank you", she said still hugging me.
I smiled and walked her to the car, I helped her put on the seatbelt too.I started the car and we were both quiet.
"I love you Romeo", Lucille said breaking the silence.
I looked at her and she could tell I was very surprised by what she just said. I didn't know what to say. I wanted to just vanish into thin air at that moment.
"You don't have to say it back, knowing you care about me is enough.", she said and I felt relieved.
"I would make you fall in love with me Romeo", she said almost in a whisper but I still heard her.
I bit my lower lip and run my hand through my hair. Did she just say that? I could feel my heart beating very fast.
I guess I want it too, I want to fall in love with her. She's a very nice person, and looks very attractive too damn!
We presented our project work the next day and we passed, hurray!
"My treat, where do you want us to celebrate our victory", I said to Lucille during lunch break.
"I know of a restaurant, they serve delicious meals", she said looking excited.
"Okay, so we'd have dinner together then. I'll come pick you up at 6, hope it's okay", I replied.
"Yeah of course, it's a date", she responded and walked away smiling.
I was smiling to my self when I suddenly felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned immediately and it was Xander.
"You look like someone in love", he said hilariously.
"Is it a bad thing?", I asked clearly annoyed.
"Somehow, let's go. Clifford and Evanda are waiting for us at the car park", he said and began walking. I had no choice but to follow him.
What the hell does he mean by somehow? I was still thinking about what Xander said when I heard someone yell my name.
It was Clifford, he looked angry. I walked to meet him. When I got to him I realized he wasn't just angry, he was teary too.
He threw a blow towards me but I dodged it, my reflexes were at work damn!
"Calm down guy, what the hell is wrong with you?", I said trying to calm him down.
"You fake friend .. you fu**en stole my girl from me", he said angrily.
What the hell is he talking about. "Who is your girl?", I asked him.
"Lucille, she isn't really his girl yet. Work in progress", Evanda added,
"Does she know you like her?", I asked Clifford.
"I don't know, I'm sure she does. Just stay the hell away from her. I've been in love with her since year 1", he threatened.
There's no way I'm going to stay away from Lucille, that would break her heart. She just told me she loves me. I can't just start ignoring her!
"I can't, I'm so sorry but I can't", I said and made my way out.
"Choose Romeo, Lucille or us?", Clifford yelled and I stopped walking.
"Wait what? He passed the test, you can't just kick him out.", Xander said angrily.
"Are you on his side or ours?", Evanda asked Xander.
"Lucille doesn't love you Clifford, you guys are not even friends! She doesn't fu**en see you!!", Xander said angrily.
"Xander", Clifford yelled angrily and all our attention went on him. "You are no longer in our friend group! As the leader, I'm kicking you out!", he added.
"If Xander is out, then I'm also out!", I said angrily.
"Fine, to hell with you all!", Clifford said angrily.
"What do you mean, us all?," Evanda asked Clifford.
"I don't need any of you, just fu**en go away!", Clifford said angrily.
Xander joined me and we left them.
CLIFFORD'S POV
What just happened? Did I just push all my friends away because I couldn't get a girl?
"Do you want me to leave too?", Evanda asked breaking the silence.
"Of course not, you know I said all that because I was angry.", I responded.
"Well I don't think Xander and Romeo know that, they took everything you said seriously. They are out of our friendship group", Evanda said and walked out.
They have to know I was just angry, I didn't mean any of what I said. I have been in love with Lucille since the first day I set my eyes on her. But she was going through a lot, I had to give her space to recover from all she was going through.
And when I was ready to shoot my shot, she falls in love with my best friend! How can I accept that?
ROMEO'S POV
"So what's going to happen now? We ain't going to talk to Clifford or what?", I asked Xander who was walking beside me.
"Evanda can't walk away easily like that, Clifford's family pay his school fees. They practically take care of everything he needs in school.", Xander replied.
"So it's just the two of us now?", I asked him.
"It has always been just us, can't you see?", Xander said to me.
What he said made me laugh a little. "I'm curious, why didn't Clifford confess his love to Lucille?", I asked.
"I don't know if Lucille would want you to know this, she lost her brother in a car accident.", Xander said.
"Wait what? I never knew, she never mentioned him.", I said and he smiled.
"She blamed herself you know, she tried committing suicide several times", Xander said and I was in shock.
"Why did she blame herself?", I asked almost in a whisper.
"She was driving the car", Xander replied.
I run my hands through my hair. "Did people blame her?", I asked and he went mute.
"Answer me Xander, did people blame her?", I asked again.
"Yes, almost everyone blamed her. Her parents, friends and even some teachers. Everyone!", he responded and I couldn't help but feel sorry for Lucille.
"That's what she couldn't say to me that day, she said she just finished..", I said to myself.
"Do you love her?", Xander asked all of a sudden.
"I don't know, I don't think I do but she told me loves me", I replied.
"Don't hurt her Romeo, she's a very nice person", he threatened.
I laughed at how serious he sounded. "Of course I won't, it's Lucille, I care about her so much!", I answered.
