Chapter 22 - Ch.22

The Mother of Ghouls was not dead, but she was not far from it. The light spear had exploded within her, and even a being far surpassing a high-ranking ghoul would have been helpless. The Power of Light was a deadly poison to devils, and the same was true for evil spirits. The only reason she was still alive was that the Power of Light in Luo Guang's body was not pure, and her body, corrupted by evil spirits, had grown stronger.

"Do you have any last words?" Luo Guang asked.

But the Mother of Ghouls had lost her sanity after falling and could not answer his question. He was just asking for the sake of it.

Just as Luo Guang was about to make his move, two voices sounded at the same time.

"Wait a minute!"

"?"

The Light Spear that had just been formed in his hand stopped less than a centimeter from the Mother of Ghouls' forehead. The energy from the light was even making a burnt smell from her skin.

Luo Guang looked back, and Yayoi Hozuki did the same. Although she had shouted, who was the other person who had?

Then, in their sight, two figures bathed in moonlight slowly descended from the sky. The environment was dim, but the graceful figure of a girl and the wings on her back were still visible.

Yayoi Hozuki silently raised her crowbar. Luo Guang, on the other hand, guessed who the newcomers were. Judging from their aura and appearance, they were clearly of the devil race. And since this was Sitri territory, their identities were obvious.

Just as Luo Guang had guessed, Sona Sitri's figure gradually emerged from the shadows. The girl accompanying her was Tsubaki Shinra, her Queen, who also wore glasses and had a calm expression on her face. Her four straight legs seemed to be forged in cold light. As they walked toward them, their devil features vanished. Yayoi Hozuki grew wary, but Luo Guang pushed down her raised crowbar.

"They're with me," Luo Guang said, then looked at the two girls. "Why are you here? I was just about to complete the request."

"For certain reasons, after I found out you accepted this request, I came to check on it. It's a good thing you didn't kill it," Sona said.

The Japanese language has a different pronunciation for "he" and "it" when referring to a god-like being. Since Luo Guang had learned a cursed technique, he was already fluent in many languages. Even for lesser-known languages, he could become a professional-level translator after a few hours of study. He naturally understood the distinction in Sona's words.

"It's just an evil spirit. What's so special about it?" Luo Guang asked.

"Luo Guang-kun, you probably don't know, do you? This evil spirit was once the Mother of Ghouls, a guardian deity who protected infant spirits. She just happened to fall for some reason," Sona explained.

Of course I know, Luo Guang thought, but he still wanted to hear her explanation.

"After that, the Underworld sealed off this place and set up a barrier to keep humans out. After I took over this city from my family, I was also told to find a way to resolve the Mother of Ghouls' evil spirit transformation. But... as you know..."

"Most of the magic in the Underworld is focused on destruction. Even healing magic is only used by a few high-ranking devils. As for magic that can dispel curses or seal things... it's even rarer."

In the past, they might have been able to ask for help from pure-blooded devil families. But after the Three Factions War and the civil war, less than half of the original seventy-two pure-blooded devil families remained. This led to the loss of many secret arts and bloodlines, which is why this matter was put on hold until now.

"I originally wanted to wait until I found a solution before personally dealing with this, to allow the Mother of Ghouls to return to her duty. But I never expected a reckless little girl to break through the barrier," Sona said, looking at Yayoi Hozuki with a helpless expression.

At that moment, Yayoi realized she had caused trouble. She subtly put her crowbar back into her bag and adopted an innocent, "I-know-nothing" look. No wonder the Mother of Ghouls was so famous, yet no one had come here. It turned out that no one knew where she was, and those who did wouldn't come.

"Oh well. I won't pursue this matter. After all, it was our fault for not protecting the area well enough," Sona sighed.

"I see. So, you're recycling," Luo Guang said, and the Light Spear in his hand dissipated.

His words were true. In the original story, the Underworld was completely helpless against all kinds of seals and curses.

Seeing this, Sona Sitri and Tsubaki Shinra's discomfort disappeared, and they suddenly reacted, their eyes wide with shock. They had thought the weapon was a Holy Sword used by exorcists, similar to a weapon from Star Wars that needed to be recharged. But now, it seemed like it was a completely different thing.

"Luo Guang-kun, was that... the Power of Light?!"

"Yes, is there a problem?"

"I mean... a human, how can a human use holy power? That's a power that only angels and fallen angels can use."

"I obtained it through my own training. I'm not that proficient at it yet."

"???"

Are you kidding me? she thought. I get that you can use magical power, but how can you cultivate the Power of Light out of thin air?
