Chapter 24: Shadows in the Crime Scene
Isabella's POV
Eilidh slid the key into the lock with a soft click, but instead of resistance, the door nudged forward.
Eilidh froze, her hand still gripping the key. Arthur leaned over her shoulder, his brow furrowing beneath the messy fall of ginger hair. "It's unlocked," he whispered.
"I can see that idiot." She replied to him.
A beat of silence followed, our breathing too loud in the stillness of the hallway. Alexander's eyes narrowed, blue sharpening in the dim light. "That's not right."
No, it wasn't. My room had been sealed the moment Rose's body was carried away. Police tape, locks, investigators swarming over every inch of the space. And even if the academy had wanted to return it to me, they never would've left it open.
Eilidh drew a slow breath, then pushed the door wider. The hinges creaked, a sound too sharp in the dead of night. My heart hammered in response.
"Inside. Now," Alexander murmured.
