The moment Aang Jiang disappeared through the door, the little girl realized she was being left behind. She hurriedly rose to chase after Aang Jiang.
Mike met Aang Jiang descending the staircase. He looked in front of Aang Jiang, behind himself, then beside Aang Jiang again. Wasn't the boss holding something before she crashed into the building?
"Umm, boss, where is the bag?" Mike asked. "What bag?" Aang Jiang asked back, still descending the flight of staircases.
"Weren't you carrying a bag when you crashed into the building?" Mike scratched his head. "Oh, so you realized I crashed into the building. And you aren't worried about me but something I was holding?" Aang Jiang hissed.
She paused and turned to look at Mike, who gave a dry laugh in embarrassment while avoiding eye contact.
Aang Jiang thought 'Is that what it appeared as to him?'
"It was not a bag but a child." Aang Jiang said as she resumed her descent. " A child? Then, where is it? Wait. Don't tell me you left it upstairs all alone." Mike gasped.
"Then I won't tell you." Aang Jiang grumbled as she reached the bottom of the staircase. She opened the door as Mike facepalmed his forehead at his boss' indifference. They didn't know whose child that was, and she didn't care.
He sighed as he followed Aang Jiang out the door.
*In a VIP room at the auction event*
"Sir, please a crash was heard in the opposite building. Do we go and check it out?" Su Han reported to Gu Huang.
'You still managed to run away this time' Gu Huang thought. He shook his head at Su Han's request. By now, she should have left. "Retrieve the gemstone and pack for our departure. Is there anything else you would like to report?" Gu Huang looked at the fidgeting Su Han.
" Youngest master called saying his sister was missing. It seems the last time she was last seen was when you were around." Su Han voice trailed off as the dark aura around Gu Huang began to manifest. "She followed me. Find her."
Gu Huang rubbed his temples after he gave that order. 'My little sunshine, where are you?'
...
Mike and Aang Jiang walked to the junction of the street. Aang Jiang turned to Mike and said expressionlessly, "Don't follow me." Then she went left. After taking five steps, she walked back to Mike, who stood in his place looking at her. She stretched out her hand and looked at Mike.
Mike emotionally put his right hand in Aang Jiang's palm. His boss was willing to bring him to her new home.
Aang Jiang was confused when Mike's hand appeared in hers. Her eyebrow and mouth twitched in annoyance. She slowly raised her free hand and delivered a knock to Mike's head.
"Ouch!" Mike screamed in anguish. "Are you now awake? My bag and things." Aang Jiang demanded. Mike sorrowfully released the bags in his left hand to Aang Jiang. He was wrong. How could his unaffectionate boss change. He would rather believe in evolution than believe his boss could ever change.
"Don't forget the task I gave you. And for bringing me to a trap, you owe me 100,000 dollars." Aang Jiang instructed.
"Ah! Boss, no, you can't... I won't give you any more money. How should I have known it was a trap. Stop cheating me of my money." Mike cried in despair. It is not that he was not rich, but his boss was richer than him yet was stingy with her money and liked to cheat him off his money.
"Are you complaining after my life was at risk because of you! Make it a million." Aang Jiang said as she turned to leave. Mike was again left all alone. He sulkily went opposite of Aang Jiang's direction.
Aang Jiang made her way to the main road to hail a taxi because buses were closed at this time. Aang Jiang suddenly stopped in her tracks as she looked behind her. "Show yourself. You've been following me for some time now. I know you are there" Aang Jiang said cautiously.
A little head popped out behind a dustbin.
"What do you think you are doing following me?" Aang Jiang asked the little girl.
The little girl didn't say anything in response and kept blinking her big bright phoenix eyes at Aang Jiang. Aang Jiang felt creeped out being stared at like that.
"Why are you just standing there staring at me. It is creepy. Stop. Huh, where are your parents?" Aang Jiang inquired. Who would leave a four-year-old child to roam alone at an auction event.
"I am an orphan with no mother." the little girl finally opened her mouth.
"Since you have no mother, you must have a father. I don't think that makes you an orphan. Where do you live?" Aang Jiang sighed. "I don't remember. Can I please stay with you?" the little girl chirped.
"No" Aang Jiang replied. Something didn't sit right with her. The little girl's reaction didn't resemble someone lost or frightened. It would be best if she avoided any more contact with her.
The little girl scrunched her hands and placed them on her chest. "My father is scary and uncaring, and my brother is quiet and shy. My house is always dark and empty that it suffocates to stay inside. I am sure if I had a mother, she would fill that void in my heart. But mother is unknown. Oh, such a cruel world. Even orphans are happier than me and colleagues laugh at me. My life is a mess. Oh, great and beautiful auntie, my savior, won't you fill that void for me..." the little girl ranted.
