"Stop. What is with the poetry?" Aang Jiang couldn't help interrupting the girl. "It is not poetry but a message from my heart. I want to be adopted by you" the little girl said.
"No. Just because I saved you doesn't mean I will want to you in my life, let alone adopt you." Aang Jiang smirked.
'Wow! Mommy is very cute even when she is rejecting me. I feel I can take these rejections for eternity if I can see mommy's face like this', the little thought. The little girl scrunched her face and fell to her knees. Raising her left hand to Aang Jiang's direction and putting her right hand on her chest, she began her performance.
"Great beauty unparalleled in the universe. My lovely fair lady. Do not leave this forgotten soul stranded in the middle of nowhere at this hour. I will be devastated if my sincere words do not reach the depths of your heart."
Aang Jiang shook her head in disbelief at the girl. She facepalmed her forehead and dragged her hand all the way to her chin. What mess had she gotten herself into. When the little girl was quiet, you wouldn't know she could talk a lot.
If she had known, she wouldn't have saved her. Aang Jiang let out a big and long sigh in frustration before taking a look at the girl again.
"What is your name?" Aang Jiang asked defeated.
"Gu Miao is yours truly's name" Gu Miao replied. Aang Jiang knelt down infront of the kid on one knee and held her shoulder. "Gu Miao, adoption doesn't work that way. I have to at least show interest in you but I am not interested in you or in having any other kids around me anytime soon." She stood up and continued, "I have work tomorrow, so I really need to go home and sleep. Can you please let me go without following me?"
"Mo... Auntie, I am really disappointed and sad that you don't want me.Can I at least, please, stay at your place tonight? It is too late and auntie knows there are a lot of baddies at night, so, please!" Gu Miao sobbed. At least that is how it appeared.
"My father and brother won't even realize I am gone." Gu Miao said when she realized Aang Jiang was about to speak.
Aang Jiang sighed again. 'Who gave birth to such a monster' she grumbled as she scratched her hair in frustration. The problem was that the girl was not wrong. She got the kid out of the building, so she has to look after the kid for the night.
No one told her trying to be good once in your life will lead to so many complications.
Gu Miao stood there, qiuet for once after her encounter with Aang Jiang, blinking at Aang Jiang , waiting for her to make up her mind.
"Fine. But only for one night." Aang jiang gave up.
Aang Jiang hailed a taxi and arrived at her new 'apartment with Gu Miao. Before Aang Jiang finished unlocking the door, she turned to face Gu Miao, "Do not go anywhere and do not touch anything."
Gu Miao had to nod before Aang Jiang let her in. Aang Jiang went straight to her bedroom after locking the door, leaving Gu Miao to find her way to the hall sofa by herself.
After changing out of the Cinderella dress to her comfortable pajamas, Aang Jiang made her way to the gadget room next to her room.
"I am hungry" Gu Miao's voice rang into Aang Jiang's ears when she held the handle of the door leading to the gadget room. Aang Jiang nearly had a heart attack. Maybe, due to the empty and dark hallway, Gu Miao's voice came out loud, echoic and eerily. Her natural soft and sweet voice added to a ghostly feeling.
Aang Jiang had forgotten she brought someone home with her. She used her hand to soothe her pounding heart and the other still held on to the handle.
Gu Miao appeared in front of Aang Jiang, "Auntie, your house is so quiet and empty than mine. You have no food in your cupboards and fridge. I have no sponge and towel, and no shoes, slippers or dresses are in my size. Life is unbearable here. How do you survive?", she continued to complain.
"Life is unbearable because I just moved here. And it is the same reason why you are only sleeping for the night." Aang Jiang said half-heartedly.
As if she didn't hear, Gu Miao avoided the topic, "Let's go shopping tomorrow!". "No. At least not with you" an annoyed Aang Jiang said.
Once again, Gu Miao acted as if she didn't hear what Aang Jiang said. "Auntie, I will help you write down a list of things you need to buy. Don't worry, leave it all to me. Umm, auntie, can I sleep with..."
"No". She was really tired of saying 'no' all the time. She turned and entered the gadget room before Gu Miao spoke again. The little monster could do whatever she wanted, she will just watch her from the cameras.
A countlessly rejected Gu Miao quietly went about her self-given task disappointedly. She will just let mommy accept reality slowly.
Aang Jiang watched the security footage of the time period she was not at home. After confirming nothing was amiss, she deleted the footage of her going out before retiring to her room to sleep.
