"Watch out!"
Even as Jun screamed at the driver, he could see the danger approaching. Jun could feel his heartbeat elevate as well as his senses become clearer, more focused. For a second he was puzzled why the driver had reacted so slowly, seemingly taking his time to turn his head, only for Jun to realize he seemed to be perceiving the imminent accident in some form of hyper-focused state. He had enough time to glance sideways at the other passengers, most of whom were still looking at him with shock at his sudden outburst.
Jun was able to grip the metal bars of the seat ahead of him as he braced himself for imminent collision.
As Jun braced, a young man flew backwards through the air at speeds faster than the eye could track. Jun could make out his torn-style jeans, blue tank top, some kind of gloves, sneakers and a shimmering, aqua-blue film of light that coated the man from head to toe.
This blue shield man slammed backwards into the bus's front grill causing a loud crash and an instant stop. The windscreen immediately shattered spraying glass shards inside; the bus lurched upwards as though it had crashed into a wall, throwing unprepared passengers about haphazardly, a couple of unlucky front row passengers were thrown clear through shattered windscreen and onto hard pavement.
Jun could see the blue shield man cough out once in pain, yet, as though slamming into a bus was not a big deal, the man pulled his legs up against the bus - the shield around him had dimmed significantly after the impact, going from a clear aqua-blue to a lighter sky-blue. Jun braced for impact once again as the man suddenly launched himself off the bus disappearing from view, however.
SCCCRRRRREEEEEECCCHHHHHHH!
This super being had launched himself off of the bus! Immediately thrusting the crashed bus backwards with tremendous force, the vehicle screeched backwards for a moment before sharply veering sideways leading to a rolling tumble. The bus rolled once, spraying a storm of metal and glass shards before slamming into an open storefront, crashing and stopping against a wall inside.
Jun's eyes were still spinning after the bus had come to sudden stop. He didn't immediately release his grip from the iron parts of the seat.
He could smell burnt plastic, smoke as well as something that gave off a strange metallic scent he wasn't familiar with. Jun rose on shaky legs; Around him was bent metal, broken glass, several destroyed items and -.
Jun rushed to a nearby passenger, crushing glass shards as he moved, yet he stopped when he saw the sorry, mangled state of the unfortunate person. He looked away from the corpse, a part of him recognized the metallic scent he had been perceiving.
'Blood' Jun stepped back, 'That's the smell of blood isn't it.' He saw the woman seating across from him, half of her torso was lodged into the window frame. At this sight, Jun immediately threw up his breakfast. He took a few breaths to steady himself, keeping his head down as he moved towards a shattered window. He crawled through a window frame that was slick with something he refused to look at, but his hand smelled metallic all the same.
Jun was in a wrecked phone accessories store. Shelves were destroyed, items crushed, nothing seemed to remain. Jun had to shimmy across the side of the bus, stepping over awful smears of blood as well as scattered debris on the floor until he reached the shattered entrance, now wide enough for a vehicle to pass through.
He briefly locked eyes with someone across the street, someone who seemed to be peering from their own shop into the destroyed place. Jun wondered for a moment why no one was coming to help, then he heard.
TRRRRIIINNNGGGGG-BOOM!
The sound came from above him, followed immediately by the crash of shattering glass.
Further down the street from where the bus had crashed, the blue shield man was hovering several meters off the ground. He had crossed his hands in an X-pattern, shielding himself from another person who glided inches off the ground, yet moved around with speed and precision, weaving between street debris and around the hovering blue shield man, never staying in one place too long. Jun realized why the glider moved as he did when blue shield man suddenly thrust his arm forward at glider, launching a stream of blue light, he missed glider, who moved around too quickly, instead cratering the road it struck.
"You can't touch me Feng!" laughed glider, "today, I'm bringing an end to your wickedness and evil ways."
The glider thrust both hands towards the one he called Feng. The air visibly shimmered as a cylindrical shaped stream of force targeted the floating Feng, who tried to dodge but was struck in the side causing him to spiral out of control and slam into a building before falling to the ground. Behind Feng, the remaining energy that missed him struck a wall; immediately blasting a hole into it and causing loose bits of stone to fall to the ground. People were screaming from inside the building, but neither combatant seemed to care at the moment.
The glider was on top of Feng in mere moments. He placed both hands on Feng's head, he intended to blast him at point blank range.
Feng just laughed, "You think Master Lightcore would let you get away with this."
"You'll never know, will you." Laughed the glider.
"Wait no-!" Feng pleaded in his last moments.
The glider unleashed a focused blast from both hands directly into Feng's head. There was a loud boom, the roads and buildings shook, whatever windows that remained unbroken finally shattered. Feng fell to the ground bleeding from his ears and nose.
The glider stepped back, seemingly to admire his work. He pumped his fist into the air and declared loudly.
"Evil is vanquished!" he stepped back and surveyed the destroyed street. "You are alright now citizens," he was actually smiling broadly, "You are safe now. One more villain has been defeated."
"Oh did you now?" came a voice from the shadows over a rooftop.
The glider scanned the surroundings, before spotting the speaker high above him.
"Lightcore! You deign to show your evil face around here?"
"You bastard!" Heavy footsteps preceded someone jumping out of a window and landing and cracking the roads below, "How dare you speak to Master Lightcore like that in his own territory?" demanded the newcomer. She wore a matching set of black jean jacket and jean trousers, on out of place sandals. She stepped away from the small crater she just formed, sparing only a passing glance at the unmoving body of Feng.
"Your Master's days are numbered. Soon the one and only Magicster will come put an end to your wicked ways." Declared the glider, who immediately began to slide backwards away from his opponents.
Lightcore immediately thrust forward, emitting a fist sized stream of white light, which the glider immediately avoided.
Jun, who was further down the street wound up directly in the path of the attack. He reacted quickly and jumped to the side, landing on his shoulder.
"This is insane." He swore to himself.
"Isn't it?" came a voice from behind him.
Jun spun around to see a slim middle aged man staring at him, grinning in a unnerving way as though he was looking at a delicious meal, or a plaything for amusement.
The stranger continued, "looks like its getting rough out there."
He nodded above Lightcore, where a newcomer had flown to the midst of the battle. The glider was being chased by the lady beside Lightcore, who seemed to have been waiting for the newcomer. Jun at least recognized Magicster from the internet.
"Looks like the boss gets to finally get rid of that Magicster guy." The stranger said with a sigh, "Anywho. There's you!"
"What about me?"
"How did you dodge the boss' attack just now?"
"Shouldn't you be there with them, helping your boss?"
"Are you kidding? Those are powerhouses kid." He sighed, "Not for me." He chuckled, shaking his head. He gestured towards himself with a flourish. "I tend to maintain the perimeter for the boss with my humble techniques, for I am," he gave a small mock bow at Jun, "Destur!"
Jun watched the man chuckle to himself again, he was clearly having a lot of fun with himself.
The man seemed to wait for Jun to respond. Jun looked away for a moment to the battle taking place, Lightcore and Magicster had flown about a kilometer in the air, trading heavy blows that released loud, terrifying shockwaves. The glider darted around the lady, who would leap at him with a powerful punches, cratering whatever she hit, while the glider would unleash his destructive shockwaves at her, decimating the roads or buildings.
Jun then jumped back suddenly as Destur had lunged at him while he was watching the battle. He avoided the attack, noticing Destur held a pulsing sphere of purple energy, which he had tried to slam in Jun.
Jun's instincts told him to avoid that sphere.
"Come on now don't go ignoring me when I'm trying to do my own introduction here." He pouted in a manner very unbecoming of his middle aged appearance. "The boss gets to do it and it looks like fun."
"What do you want from me?" Jun then asked.
Destur gestured around the street, "notice how the normals all fled the moment battle began." He didn't directly answer his question.
Jun realized it was true; the streets were empty around where the battle took place. Regular people would obviously not stay around such a dangerous place, only those confident in their own survival would dare remain in the open; only those who had the power to survive, meaning only those with abilities would refuse to hide. Jun had revealed himself due to his curiosity.
"What can you do?" Destur asked him suddenly. "Don't worry, if you're capable, Master Lightcore would take you in. We're going to need good people in the new era, right?"
Jun stepped back. This was getting too much, too quickly. A few days ago he was just an office worker. But, super beings battling in the street, buildings going up in flames, mad men throwing beams of death willy-nilly.
Jun turned and ran towards an alley.
"Oh don't be like that." Called Destur. He inhaled and grinned widely. He loved it when weaklings ran. He ignored the battle going on and chased after Jun.
