Jun felt his mind go blank for a moment. His mind flashed over several fictional images forged from foreign films; several police cars parked in a way to prevent escape attempts; armed police officers ready to open fire the moment they saw their target; hidden snipers waiting for an ideal headshot!
He felt someone smack his shoulder making Jun look down at Mei Mei.
"What now boss?" she asked.
Snipers!? Jun panicked for a moment. He drew in a deep breath.
Wait what!? What am I thinking! Snipers?
Jun shook his head and drove away unnecessary thoughts.
We're not in an American Bank robbery. We're in a make shift city inside the sewers of an actual city. Jun felt better as he reminded himself.
"You guys stay here." He started saying,
"Well duh!" scoffed Shu'er.
Jun continued, "I'll go. But, first, you." He pointed at Xia, who cowered when pointed at. Jun rolled his eyes at her display, "Where is my stuff? All this is your fault you know! Where is my phone!? Did you sell it!?" he demanded.
Xia's body kept shaking, yet she managed to mutter, "I didn't –." She started to say.
"WE'RE GOING TO GIVE YOU TWO MINUTES TO GET OUT HERE!" The megaphone bellowed again. "OTHERWISE, WE'RE GONNA HAVE TO DRAG YOU OUT HERE!"
"Didn't what?" Jun asked, "You didn't do what to my phone?"
"I-I-I d-d-did- didn't s-s-sell it." Xia managed to stutter. "I-I-It's It's." she turned her head slowly to a small bag slung over the side of the gurney.
Jun spotted the bag and pulled it over, inside, he found random items inside; watches, phones, digital watches and various other small pieces of tech.
"Yes!" Jun declared as he pulled out his phone. He felt around the bag and found another section. Inside, he found several wallets ranging in quality. All had been emptied of cash and there he found his, including his ATM card still tucked inside the wallet.
Jun exhaled with relief. He considered tossing the bag back, but changed his mind.
"You." He said suddenly at Xia, who flinched, "We're going to go and explain to the authorities out there. All this is your fault anyway. You two can wait for me to talk it out outside."
"Yeah." Scoffed Shu'er, "we really don't have anything to do with all that anyway."
Jun made way for Xia to walk in front of him.
Shang reclined on his Lazy-Boy construct as he waited for today's culprit to emerge from the hospital shack. He raised his hand and a floating azure colored tray drifted to him carrying a megaphone. Behind him, there was a small gathering of his fans and followers. They maintained a distance from Shang, shouting his cheers and praises.
Shang acted as though their cheers were a bother to him, but in reality, Shang soaked it all in. Just their voices of approval filled his spirit with immense satisfaction. He hoped he would be able to really show of his skills again today.
Ever since he had come to work as the head security for the sewer city, his days had started out initially interesting, but quickly became repetitive and dull. Residents feared super beings and having one as head of security, most people rarely acted out. There was no crime or law-breaking to keep Shang entertained. As such, he developed an urge to inject his own flair into everyday, boring activities.
"Tell me again doctor, you say this unknown super attacked you?"
The doctor who was inspecting Xia when Jun burst in was standing behind Shang. Even though he had reported the event and wanted to be far away from combating super beings, Shang had insisted he tag along; he needed someone to identify the culprit after all.
"I didn't see what ability he used in particular." He doctor answered, "but, he didn't attack me directly though, he attacked my patient actually."
"That's alright." Said Shang dismissively, "A culprit is a culprit. No matter what, he'll be no match for the One man Army!"
He gingerly picked up the megaphone and put it to his lips, drew in breath then paused.
He could see movement from inside the makeshift hospital. Shang squinted.
A man. Wait. Hostage! A man has taken a woman hostage!
Shang realized the situation could be worse than he imagined. If a super being took a hostage, he could start making demands. If things escalate, Shang wouldn't be seen as the great hero he truly was.
I need to take him down quickly as possible. Hmmm.
With a firm nod to reassure himself, Shang swung into action.
He placed his index and middle finger from each hand at the sides of his temples, this was his activation pose. He shut his eyes and let his power rush out. Shang imagined an army; combat ready warriors that could take on any challenge and come out victorious.
Tendrils of azure light shot out from Shang's eyes, swirling around his head for a few moments before blasting into the ground in a burst of azure light. Left in its place was an azure colored humanoid-being dressed like a special-forces soldier complete with an azure colored bullet-proof vest as well as a combat knife which it pulled out of its sheath, taking on a combat stance.
Shang pushed himself in this instance, forcing ten tendrils of light to spread out around him. After a light burst, he was surrounded by ten azure colored combat constructs. He was panting when he was done, pushing himself off his chair as it began to flicker once, then twice, before with the sound of a soft pop, his chair and tray constructs vanished, causing the megaphone to clatter to the ground.
Shang drew in a deep breath, he thrust himself up, taking a more cinematic pose; he placed one hand on his waist, as he pointed the finger of his other hand at his enemy.
"Go my warriors!" he bellowed out, "free that poor hostage and defeat that evil guy!"
Behind him, his audience began to cheer for Shang, prompting a grin. He then noticed something.
Oh, she's pretty. Ha Ha! When I save you lady, I'm sure you're going to be especially grateful.
Three constructs immediately charged straight at the exiting man and woman. Four others split up and charged from the sides while the remaining three brought up the rear slower than the others.
As the constructs approached, the three charging forward were suddenly thrown high into the air in different directions, crashing into the walls of the tunnel.
The two flanking from the right suddenly accelerated abnormally, their feet floating above the ground as they moved at high speeds, crashing into the other two flanking from the left. On impact, all four constructs simply burst into a sparkling cloud of azure light before dissipating into nothingness.
Shang felt backlash every time his constructs were destroyed. Losing seven in one go had felt like a series of straight unguarded punches to his stomach. He coughed out some reddened spit, clearing his throat, but quickly caught himself. He straightened himself, running his hand through his hair.
He could make out the evil man wave furiously towards him, he was saying something, but Shang could only hear the cheers from his adoring fans, besides Shang couldn't be bothered by the declarations of a villain at this moment.
The three remaining units pulled back, regrouping in front of Shang, protecting him from any potential invisible attacks.
He called upon even more of his ability. Twelve tendrils of light shot into the ground, bursting outward and it their place were a series of animal form constructs. There were two of each type of animal; dog, cat, lion, bear, eagle, crocodile.
"Take this villain!" Shang declared, pirouetting in place and finishing with a flourishing finger point at the male villain.
This time, the villain shoved the hostage to his side. The lady didn't run, she was clearly terrified of the monster who kept her trapped with his vile abilities, thus, she cowered beside him as she sank to the ground, helpless.
That monster! He wants to keep her by his side! Perhaps to use as a human shield?
Shang felt furious at this thought. This time, he immediately decided to get into the fight.
He saw the villain cup his mouth, perhaps to shout out his demands. But, Shang was done playing pretend. There was a pretty lady in danger and it was time to get serious.
Transform!
This was his strongest mental command. Shang slammed his hands together as though in prayer, channeling his ability one final time. But, unlike other times, he funneled his power into himself. There was a burst of bright azure light which cleared in the next second.
The crowd suddenly began to cheer even louder. Their hero had arrived. Several phones began to take pictures and videos of this rarely seen form.
Shang believed he was ready, he had summoned his Justice Armor this time around instead of another construct. He thrust a gauntleted hand forward and in a spectacular burst of azure flames dragging from hilt to blade, an azure katana was formed in Shang's hand. Fully transformed, he now appeared fully clad in a futuristic looking suit of armor heavily reminiscent of a very certain marvelous film character.
Shang swung the blade with style and flair. He ended his showcasing by pointing his weapon at the heart of the villain, who remained locked in place; no doubt mesmerized by the obvious glamor of the hero of the sewer city.
"Charge!" Shang bellowed.
