Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: Emolliate

Jun found himself facing a mob of energy constructs. He had tried to de-escalate the situation; shouting to the super about the criminal by his side and how he intended to turn her in, yet it appeared his opponent couldn't hear him, or at least didn't react to his pacifist attempts.

Xia lay in a heap beside him, quietly facing the ground listlessly as thoughts of what kind of grisly fate would befall her ravaged her mind and sent her into an unresponsive state. Jun wasn't sure whether to push her out of the way or drag the fight away from here; yet he worried that if Xia were to escape, he may never be able to find her again.

He took a deep breath to steady his mind.

Looks like I'm going to have to fight seriously.

Jun's eyes scanned his immediate environment. There were a few pieces of hospital equipment close enough to him to be able to manipulate. There were also pieces of scrap metals used in the building's construction.

Once the constructs got within range of his ability, Jun immediately grabbed both crocodile constructs and swung them into the lion constructs. He had hoped to keep using the construct like a flail, however, upon impact, both sets of constructs dissipated into nothing.

Jun tried again, picking up and slamming the cats and dogs constructs, destroying them as well. Unfortunately, the bear constructs caught up to him, swinging a large azure paw at his mid-section. Jun manifested a shield to intercept the blow.

A small circle in front of Jun's torso began to glow purple, taking the hit from the bear and shattering the shield in one shot. Jun staggered backward from the force of the blow. The construct hit as much as a real bear might.

The second bear had started a left paw swipe, so Jun pulled the first to intercept the blow, its head was shattered, disappearing into light particles. Jun was about to push the beast construct away when something filled his field of view and began clawing and ripping at his face.

The second bear quickly rallied, it shoved its head into Jun's torso, tackling him to the ground. The eagle constructs circled above him once, before diving in to claw at his face.

A light purple shield appeared suddenly in front of the two of them and they crashed into it. This didn't do much except disorient the eagles, which then began to flap their wings, moving backward and gaining some altitude.

The bear had reared back on its hind legs and was about slam both front paws onto Jun's torso. As he rolled out of the way, Jun spotted his opponent kneel down before Xia; dramatically offering her his hand.

He couldn't see much else as three humanoid forms dived towards his body, hoping to dog-pile him.

No!

Jun tried the same thing he did the first time Xia got away from him. He grabbed his own legs and pulled away.

It worked somehow, Jun was immediately removed from immediate danger as the humanoids landed on each other, but as they didn't squabble, they were already getting back up. Jun felt a burning pain in his back as it was raked against the bare concrete ground. He could feel the sharp stinging pain that let him know he was bleeding.

Damnit! Damnit!! I need to end this now. How though?

Jun scrambled backward as he spied the construct summoner pull Xia to her feet, he was taking her elsewhere, away from the battlefield.

If she gets away, they'll change the story. Make it like I was the one who attacked all of a sudden! I'll be framed!

Jun stopped thinking at this point. He only knew he needed to win this fight.

He gripped both eagles as they came in for a dive bomb and swung them hard into the ground head first. Both constructs shattered instantly.

The bear lunged at him, so Jun enveloped it and lifted the construct, throwing it into the remaining humanoid constructs, yet none were destroyed, merely delayed.

Jun watched the four constructs start to get up and he panicked. Aside from moving things around, he couldn't physically damage anything.

In that case, I'll have to get creative.

He stretched his hand out, taking a few moments to prepare for what he was about to do. The constructs were getting up. Jun extended his field about three meters out. The constructs faced him and began a new charge with the bear leading. Jun formed his field into the shape and sharpness of a simple blade.

He visualized this sharp blade he wanted to create and focused on the blade's edge. As the constructs were almost upon him, Jun swung.

His field moved where he wished. The invisible blade slashed forth in an instant, striking the sides of the constructs, it started cutting through them, however, in the next moment, the invisible blade shattered.

Jun felt a strange physical blowback and he was thrown backward, falling to the ground. His head began to pound seriously and for a few seconds, all Jun could see was a blur.

Jun sucked in air as he quickly recovered, yet, his inner pathways felt quite sore from the sudden high grade usage of his ability. He felt his stomach lurch and turn, his legs felt softer all of a sudden and a growing darkness around his eyes dimmed his vision.

However, the result of his attack was quite the success. As his eyesight recovered, he found no sign of the constructs aside from the controller. This controller stood in front of Xia, his energy blade pointed at Jun. he was saying something, but Jun's senses were still in a jumble.

The controller swung his blade with flair before taking a charging stance. Then he sprinted at Jun.

Oh Lord! Enough of this!

Jun felt his eyes wavering. He knew he might pass out at any minute, yet, he didn't want to lose.

As the controller entered Jun's range, Jun screamed with primal fury as he lunged both hands forward. The controller froze mid-stride, struggling against invisible binds. Then he suddenly shifted upwards, only to come crashing into the ground. Again and again. On the fourth impact, the armor construct disintegrated, the fifth impact broke his ribs while on the sixth, he felt the invisible binds fade away on the upward rise and he fell backwards, landing on his feet with a sickening crunch, falling to the ground and passing out.

Jun was on his knees now. His breathing was ragged and his vision blurred all the more. His head hurt like never before yet Jun used all his willpower to remain awake. He watched the crowd behind the battlefield quiet down, some of them began to look his way with menace in their eyes.
