Chapter 13 - Chapter 12.

I was on my way to Aleria for a two-day ride on my stallion, Bucky. I continued to frolic through the countryside, unsure about whether I would be coming back or not. The task at hand was serious and dangerous, but I did not look back because I knew what I was getting myself into.

A short while later, I was passing through a small forest with tall trees that stood far above. I looked to my right and there was a clear river murmuring melodies to the trees', nature's symphony in flow. I realized that this was the perfect place to set up camp for the night, as I noticed that the hour was late. Sunset was approaching. The sun started to lower; orange began to seep through the trees, glazing everything in the process. There were shadows cast by the oak and pine, and a mist forming, leaving moisture in the air, making me sweat from head to toe.

As I grabbed firewood for the fire, I kept feeling like I was being watched from afar. It left me feeling perked up and on full alert, ready to kill a motherfucker if need be. They didn't dare show their face for he who shall… shall meet their fate at the tip of my blade.

As soon as nightfall approached, I sat there on the plush mossy grass, listening to the calm crackling ambience of the fire. The heat wrapped around my body like a warm hug from a loved one. I sharpened my sword, while I kept taking long gulps of sweet red from my blackjack or sack of wine if you will… trying to soak my liver with the devil's juice, drowning myself in a deep and much-needed rest.

I closed my eyes, as they were heavy from today. As I lay there on the ground, totally in touch with nature as we were one under the stars… I still felt like I was being watched, but I wasn't about to let that stop me from getting a good night's sleep. I will sleep with my blade close, I thought, as everything went dark, and I drifted off into the abyss.

The next morning came as golden hour approached. There was a chill in the air with a mist surrounding it. The birds hummed a sweet song, and the dew formed in the grass, so moist you could almost taste it. As I kicked the fire out, I got back on Bucky's back and was off on my way to Aleria once more.

After I got through miles and miles of the plush and green forest, I met a crossroad with a sign that pointed to the right that said Aleria. So, I followed it, until… finally, after several hours of pastures, countryside, farmland, and dirt roads, there was a quietness in the wind… much too comforting and peaceful for my own good. I reached the outskirts of the kingdom of Aleria.

I scoped it out from a distance, trying to get a good look at it before coming up with a plan. Hmm… there is a farm to the left of the kingdom's gates, which probably has hay and straw in it… maybe even a lantern that I could break to get the flammable wax inside. I should wait for nightfall and burn it to the ground.

The barracks were also outside of the city walls. So, it worked out in my favor. I might be able to pull this off without a scratch on my body… probably not, though, knowing my luck, but you don't win wars with luck, you win wars with sacrifice. So, I stayed out of sight until dusk.

The moon showed its face as I sat around getting piss drunk with what may be my last drink. I went over the plan repeatedly in my head for a few hours before getting into the motions. I scurried over to the barn completely unnoticed and grabbed two bundles of hay and a lantern… thankfully, there was one in here. I was a hooded, mischievous assassin in the night.

I made my way over to the barracks on the right side of the gates. I hid behind a fence-like structure made of stone about fifty yards away from the entrance, with two guards on duty guarding the door. I thought on the spot and went with it… I threw a rock to the left, hitting something in its midst, creating a commotion.

"What was that?" one of the men wondered.

"I don't know… go check it out!"

He started walking towards the noise with his back turned. I charged the other one and broke his neck in one swift motion, and dragged his body to the side of the building, quietly. As I hid behind the wall with him, I unsheathed my throwing knife.

"Hey…Remy… Remy?" he said with a frightful tone in his voice.

I quickly peered around the corner and hit the poor fucker right between his eyes, as he dropped to the ground. I quickly grabbed the hay and lantern, bashed it against the stone and covered the hay in wax, then threw it in the building as it went up in flames. I stood there for a moment, admiring my accomplishment… as I turned around, I felt a mass of force bash against my skull… then there was… darkness.
