There was a small moment beside the van driver. One of the unconscious omegas was starting to wake up and I knew this was my chance.
I just needed to create a small distraction to give them a chance to act.
"I-I am sorry. J-Just for the record, none of this was my idea. I even tried to stop my friend, but he won't listen…"
The beta spoke in a soft voice as he neared me and that alpha who got shot while saving me. His shaking frame told me that he was not lying.
And yet, I could not find any sympathy in my heart regarding this person. All I felt was the need to take him down.
I allowed him to come closer to me before I reached out, grabbed his arm, and twisted it behind him. The sudden action took not only him by surprise, but the alpha commanding all this as well.
The van driver looked shocked but he quickly recovered.
However, the unconscious omega had woken up completely and she reached out to grab the van driver's leg and pull him down.
"Y-You imbecile! How dare you-! To an alpha such as me-"
The van driver yelled loudly and I felt my head ache. He quickly knocked out the beta I was holding and started to walk toward the van.
Meanwhile, the omega inside the van tugged at the van driver, but due to whatever drug she had been given, her strength was not that great.
All she was able to do was cause the van driver to misfire when he tried to hurt her.
The bullet grazed my neck and it stung. But it was not a wound worth even mentioning. A single drop of my blood escaped my body before the wound healed.
However, something unexpected happened at that very moment.
All of a sudden, I could feel as if the world had gone silent. There was not even a single sound I could hear and then after a few seconds, it happened—a dungeon popped into existence out of nowhere.
The dungeon gate pulsed and everyone was too stunned to speak.
"W-What the-! Why is a dungeon here…The bureau never said…"
The world had advanced far enough that it was possible to predict where and when a dungeon would open, even if there was no system announcement. But accidents still happened.
For now, the bigger concern was to find out what kind of dungeon it was and how to take care of it.
After all, the dungeon had opened in the middle of the town and the damage caused here could be massive.
"A D-Dungeon-! What the-! I-Is that a monster escaping out-!"
The van driver was right. Even I could not believe my eyes when I saw a monster exit the dungeon.
The monster looked like a wolf, with sharp claws and huge teeth. Black fur covered its body, but it shined like metal. The three eyes on top of the monster's head all looked in three different directions before I felt one of them turn to look at me.
No, not at me but somewhere behind me.
I tensed for a second and got ready to defend myself in case the monster were to attack me.
But the monster ignored me and leapt toward the van driver. The omega who held the driver quickly let go of him and jumped back.
The monster did not follow her but kept walking toward the alpha bus driver before it grabbed the driver by his leg and dragged him toward the dungeon gate.
"N-No-! Let go of me-! What are you-! H-Hey, help me out. Someone, help me out-! I-I don't want to die-!"
The van driver cried out loudly, begging for help.
But there was no one there to help him.
Even I, who should have been the first to move, felt too stunned to move.
It all happened in the span of 5 minutes. The monster arrived, grabbed the van driver and then vanished. The dungeon gate also closed after that.
"W-What just happened-!"
The omega who saw her life flash in front of her eyes questioned, but I had no time to answer her because my attention was grabbed by a weak moan from behind me.
"Shit-! Are you still…Hurry, we need to call for medics. Right now."
I yelled at the stunned omega female and she nodded and brought her phone out. At such a time, the lack of a phone really gawked at my senses and I swore to get one.
'You won't need one if you log on to the Hunter Net and join them. That way, you will always be connected, even if the phone signal went out.'
A part of my mind reminded me and I felt tempted to do that.
But no matter how tempted I felt, I had to remind myself that the second I did that, the whole world would know that Ace was back and my normal life would get turned upside down.
"T-The police and the ambulance are on their way. Is that guy…alright-?"
The omega hunter asked as she ran over to me and then looked at the unconscious alpha I was trying to save.
For a second, the omega's eyes went wide as she noticed the huge frame of the alpha and the soft but beautiful face he had and I felt a stab of possessiveness coursing through me.
'Don't look at him like he's some meat you want to eat. Go away…What am I even thinking about. Now is not the time. I need to focus on saving him first.'
I ignored my instincts that told me to claim the alpha as mine. He was innocent enough and also needed me…or so my instincts believed.
But I also knew that this was all due to how tense the situation was at the moment.
Had this been the first time, I would have felt scared to think of this as something weird. But I had felt this feeling of wanting to claim, to protect, a few times by now.
I still recall when I felt it the first time. It had been when Eric had gotten hurt trying to protect me.
It had scared me so much that I had gone to a doctor, only for them to tell me that these were primitive omega instincts wanting to keep their pack safe and protected.
These feelings were fleeting and passed quickly if you did nothing about them, so I was not worried.
But I was a little surprised at how intense the emotions felt this time…and for someone unknown like this.
"The police are here. I will go and make a report. You should talk with the medics first before following me."
The omega hunter spoke softly to me before she went over to the police.
I waited a few seconds for the medics to arrive and work on the alpha in front of me before I relaxed. I was also about to leave the case to them when one of the medics gestured for me to come close.
"Sir, is this alpha your mate?"
He asked and I shook my head.
"Hmm, that's weird. Ah, looks like he temporarily imprinted on you, so we would have to ask you to come with us to the hospital for now. Don't be alarmed. The imprint will go away in a day or two. We just need you to come as a precaution."
I nodded, now speechless. After all, how did one deal or react to such news anyway?
