The next morning came with a silence I couldn't quite name. It wasn't peaceful no, it was too heavy for that. It was that kind of silence that comes after a storm, when the sky still feels swollen and raw, waiting for the next crack of thunder.
Lucian left early. I'd heard the sound of his footsteps in the hallway, firm and deliberate, the faint rustle of his coat as he paused by the stairs. For a moment, I thought he would talk to Mr, maybe wake me up,or maybe say something. But he didn't. The sound faded. The engine of his car roared to life, and just like that, the mansion swallowed the noise, leaving me in the echo of everything we hadn't said.
I got up slowly, my body still humming with the memory of last night the way his voice had trembled when he'd asked, "You were married… and it was your first time?"
