Chapter 60 - Chapter 60: Empire in Crisis

Closing the Arcane Eye, Gale, ignoring the Mages collapsed on the ground, continuously flashed into the Fortress. He summoned messengers and sent them to Yue Nu and the various armies in Dustwallow Marsh.

After receiving the letters, Gamma Group and the Second Legion immediately retreated to Corridor Fortress. The Troll attack on Sin'dorei was a crisis for the entire Kaldorei Empire; they could only abandon their mission and return to Sin'dorei to block the Troll Army.

Although their march was much longer than the Trolls', they believed that the Moon Guard and other reinforcements could delay the Troll Army.

As Gale was also preparing to return, he suddenly received a reply from Yue Nu. Yue Nu told him to leave Gamma Group to defend Corridor Fortress, and the rest of the army should immediately reinforce Alpha Fortress.

The Drakkari Trolls launched a furious attack on Alpha Fortress, and Yue Nu's army was tied down. If the Drakkari Troll attack could not be resolved, Alpha Fortress might be breached by the Drakkari Trolls at any time, and then the main army would be caught by the Drakkari Trolls.

In other words, if the Drakkari Trolls could not be dealt with, these thousands of troops would not be able to return to Sin'dorei smoothly.

How could the Moon Guard alone withstand a Troll Army of 100,000? This time, the Kaldorei Empire faced a crisis of annihilation.

Gale made a decisive decision. He left the logistics troops, led by Metri, to help Gamma Group continue building Corridor Fortress. The other armies returned to Alpha Fortress in batches. He led the Alpha Squad and Priest Corps to set off first, informing the armies along the way. The Second Legion was already very tired from rushing back overnight, so they rested for a day and set off again the next night.

A few days later, Gale and others arrived at Alpha Fortress. North of the fortress, the sounds of battle shook the sky, and huge thuds continuously echoed. The sounds of spells and ballistas were incessant, drowning out even the screams.

Entering the Fortress, Gale eagerly ascended the city wall. Looking out over the city, he was immediately startled by the colossal creatures before his eyes.

Giant Mammoths, driven by the Drakkari Trolls, charged madly towards the city wall. Spells and ballistas were unable to stop these massive beasts from approaching. As soon as they reached the city wall, they recklessly slammed into it. The loud thuds heard earlier were the sounds of Mammoths crashing into the city wall.

Even with defensive spells cast upon it, the city wall still shook violently from their impacts. One section of the city wall had even been deformed by the Mammoth's impact, becoming a focal point for the Drakkari Troll's attacks.

Gale took out the Golden Holy Sword and the eternal holy grail, condensed a giant ice spear, and cast it at a charging Mammoth.

The ice spear descended from the sky, pierced the Mammoth's eye, went through its head, and pinned it to the ground. The Mammoth struggled for a moment, breaking the ice spear, but it also took two steps forward, fell to the ground, and lost its life.

The Drakkari Trolls were startled. They had been attacking for several days, and the Kaldorei had not been able to kill a Mammoth with a single blow. Now that a method had been found, the Mammoths no longer posed a threat to the Fortress.

Thus, the Drakkari Trolls quickly retreated, leaving behind a field of corpses, both Mammoths and Trolls.

Seeing Gale's figure, Yue Nu quickly brought people over.

"Fortunately, you scared off the Trolls, otherwise, we wouldn't have been able to hold on."

Gale looked at the Mammoths; these massive beasts were indeed very difficult to deal with. The bolts fired by the ballistas seemed quite small to them, and even when hit, they could only pierce their tough hides. Only by coincidentally hitting a vital spot could these massive creatures be killed.

The Mages' spells and the Magic Towers' attacks also did not have much effect on them, because these were all fire attacks. Although Fire Spells were powerful, they were non-physical attacks, and for these thick-skinned creatures, Fire Spells were nothing more than an itch.

It was as if Mammoths were naturally immune to Fire Spells; no wonder even an Archmage couldn't withstand their attacks.

Gale told Yue Nu the situation, and only then did Yue Nu understand why the defense had been so difficult these past few days. "Fortunately, you're back, otherwise, we would have been at a loss."

"Where is Turann High Mage?"

The war had stopped; logically, Tulan should have appeared.

"He returned to Sin'dorei!"

Hearing Yue Nu's words, Gale suddenly understood. No wonder these Mages were still using Fire Spells to attack the Mammoths! These ordinary Mages, aside from Arcane Spells, only knew Fire Spells.

If Tulan returned to Sin'dorei, then Sin'dorei must have made preparations. This way, Sin'dorei still had time to gather Mages, and then unleash a super-large spell on the Trolls, which might crush the Trolls in one fell swoop.

If that were the case, perhaps the army wouldn't need to withdraw.

Yue Nu heard Gale's guess and shook his head, saying, "Thinking about these things now is meaningless. Our top priority right now is to repel the Drakkari Trolls. As long as the Drakkari Trolls are not dealt with, we cannot withdraw our troops."

Gale inquired about the Drakkari Trolls' situation and learned that they had at least 50,000 troops and over a thousand Mammoths. If the mountain pass hadn't prevented them from deploying their full force, Alpha Fortress would have been breached long ago if over a thousand Mammoths had attacked simultaneously.

Yue Nu sighed, "The Drakkari Trolls appeared at too opportune a moment. We highly suspect they conspired with the Amani Trolls."

No need to suspect, they definitely conspired.

Although the Drakkari Trolls were expelled by the Amani Trolls, they were still Trolls. The Kaldorei Empire had killed tens of thousands of Trolls in recent years, which was enough for the Drakkari Trolls to temporarily set aside their hatred.

"Today, the Drakkari Trolls were scared off by you. Tomorrow, they will definitely launch an even more furious attack. Is there a way for other Mages to also cast the spell you used?"

Gale shook his head, "These Mages have never been exposed to Frost Spells. One day is simply not enough for them to understand the spell's structure. If my Elemental Spell Codex were here, perhaps I could let them cast it directly. Unfortunately, the Codex was left by me at Corridor Fortress."

"Then what should we do?" Yue Nu was almost distraught; the only method was blocked.

Gale pondered for a moment, "It seems I can only use that item."

"Hmm?" Yue Nu heard hope and quickly pressed, "What item?"

Gale: "Do you still remember when we killed Hydra Nash, I had people collect the river water contaminated by Nash's venom?"

"Of course, I remember!" Yue Nu asked in surprise, "Did you bring that venom?"

"I brought a few carts; perhaps it can buy us a few days."

Yue Nu frowned, "A few days? I'm afraid that's not enough for us to retreat, is it? You know, the entire Corridor Forest has tens of thousands of people. Plus supplies, it would take at least ten days to half a month to fully evacuate."

"It's not enough for retreat, but it's enough for me to forge a divine artifact!"

Forge a divine artifact? Yue Nu looked at Gale in surprise, do you know what you're saying?

Maiev watched Gale with delight from the side. She had heard about Gale creating divine artifacts before. Now, hearing that Gale was going to forge a divine artifact, a strange glint flashed in her eyes.
