Chapter 90 - The Gods Dispatch Their Chosen Ones

Chen Xi's vision of a nation where mutants and humans could live together in peace was not turning out the way he had imagined.

One could only say—the ideal was beautiful, but reality was painfully harsh.

To truly realize that dream, there was still a long, long road ahead.

While Chen Xi sighed over this, the battle on the other side had already ended.

Hulk strode forward, gripping Colossus in one hand as he approached Chen Xi.

When he reached him, he loosened his grip and threw Colossus down onto the ground.

With a thud, Colossus hit the floor. He didn't even have time to feel the pain before rolling to his feet—only to be caught mid-escape by Gwen's web.

Gwen tilted her head with a smile. "And where do you think you're going?"

Colossus raised both hands high in surrender. "N-nowhere, I wasn't going anywhere!"

"What happened here?"

Chen Xi's gaze shifted from Colossus to Hulk.

Hulk was still fuming, his face full of rage. Then, with a transformation, the green giant shrank back into an ordinary man.

That man was Bruce Banner. He gave Chen Xi a polite bow and said, "Good evening, Mr. Chen Xi. I apologize for disturbing you and the ladies."

Then he cast a sharp glance toward Colossus, his tone cold. "Colossus has been stirring up trouble among mutants. I was just… teaching him a lesson."

"Lies!"

Colossus shouted angrily, refusing to admit any wrongdoing.

He was furious at being falsely accused.

"Yes, I gathered some mutants together—but I never incited anyone!"

Hulk was angry, but so was Colossus. He jabbed a finger at Bruce Banner. "Don't think that just because there are two of you, you can gang up on me!"

Chen Xi could tell this conversation was about to involve sensitive matters, and there were too many bystanders watching. He snapped his fingers.

In an instant, everyone present was transported elsewhere—inside Chen Xi's own home.

The defenses here were incredibly strong; there was no fear of anyone eavesdropping or causing trouble.

"If it came to blows, then this isn't a small matter. Explain it properly," Chen Xi said calmly.

Normally, he wouldn't bother with such petty disputes. But today, he had the strange feeling that something important might come of this.

"I have reliable information," Colossus began, now free of Gwen's webbing. He looked around nervously, then sat cross-legged on the floor. "Someone is preparing to launch a mass extermination campaign against mutants."

Chen Xi's eyes narrowed.

"I panicked when I heard that," Colossus continued. "So I quickly gathered a few trustworthy mutants—no more than ten—and did it quietly. How could I know this guy would suddenly show up, refuse to listen, and start fighting me the moment we met?"

A campaign to exterminate mutants?

Chen Xi's eyelid twitched. "How much do you actually know?"

Colossus hesitated, clearly wanting to dodge the question—but when he saw Chen Xi's expressionless face, cold sweat ran down his back. He swallowed hard and dared not lie.

"The Five Gods are extremely dissatisfied with the mutants of this world—especially…"

"Go on."

Chen Xi already had an inkling of where this was going, but he wanted to hear it confirmed.

Colossus shivered and continued quickly, "They're most displeased with you. In their eyes, after the war against Apocalypse, all mutants should've been wiped out—none should have survived. They plan to send their divine envoys, and they'll arrive in this universe very soon."

Hearing that, Chen Xi gave a cold snort, leaning back against the sofa.

"Gods… always so high and mighty, thinking they have the right to decide who lives and who dies. The moment they're displeased, they use the dirtiest tricks." His lips curled slightly. "Annoying—but amusing, too."

After all, imagining the day when he could crush those so-called gods underfoot—now that was amusing indeed.

"Gather more people," Chen Xi said after a brief silence. "Spread the word and raise everyone's alertness."

His weapons and serums had just been ordered, not yet delivered—but the first batch could be distributed soon.

"What about me?" Bruce Banner asked.

He didn't think the gods would target them directly—but if Chen Xi said it, that meant the threat was real.

If Chen Xi already knew about it, then this wasn't just a rumor.

That realization made Bruce uneasy. He wondered if his earlier fight had already alerted their enemies.

"You and Hulk should gather a team as well," Chen Xi instructed. "I'll contact you both later."

With that, he dismissed them.

He needed to start planning early.

He didn't expect humans or mutants to help him—but at least, they shouldn't drag him down.

After Bruce Banner and Colossus left, Wanda sat down beside Chen Xi, close enough that their shoulders brushed. "Is there anything we can do?" she asked softly.

Chen Xi reached out and brushed her hair gently. "Maybe. You can help me check on the progress of my order from Stark Industries. I placed it this morning."

The girls covered their mouths in realization—they finally understood where Chen Xi had gone earlier that day.

Chen Xi knew if he didn't give them something to do, they'd just worry in silence. Better to keep them occupied than anxious.

"Alright."

Wanda nodded. She planned to visit Stark Tower first thing tomorrow morning.

"And do what I told Banner and Colossus to do," Chen Xi added seriously. "A mutant's life is destined to be full of storms and bloodshed. Ignoring danger doesn't make it disappear. Sometimes, a bit of vigilance is the only thing that keeps you alive."

The girls lived well under his protection—but he couldn't guard them forever. They needed to grow stronger on their own.

Wanda still hadn't awakened as the Scarlet Witch. That wouldn't do. Maybe he'd have to think of a way to help her.

Chen Xi turned to look at Wanda beside him. His gaze was steady, deep.

She blinked, nervous under his stare.

She didn't understand why he was looking at her like that.

After a few seconds, Chen Xi sighed softly and looked away. "Forget it. You're fine just the way you are."
