Chapter 111 - A Faction of Mutants Betrays

Thor understood exactly why Chen Xi had said what he did.

After knowing the reason, he had nothing further to say—only hoping to catch Loki before Chen Xi did.

"What is that?"

While Thor and Chen Xi were talking, Gwen and Wanda were nearby, standing by the window, chatting. Suddenly, as if they had seen something unbelievable, their eyes widened, and even their voices changed tone.

It was clear—they were witnessing something extraordinary.

Chen Xi and Thor both noticed immediately.

They instinctively moved closer to the window, and the two women subtly made space for them.

At that moment, everyone could clearly see what was happening outside.

At first glance, it was almost impossible to believe.

"Is that a ship?"

Thor looked up. The first thing he saw was a ship hovering overhead.

"Clearly it is, and it's a ship of the dead."

Ghostly figures surrounded the vessel. Ordinary people might have thought it was just a dark, moving object in the sky. Only those with abilities could perceive it clearly.

"Could this be one of Loki's tricks?"

Seeing the ship of the dead, Thor immediately associated it with his brother Loki, feeling that only he could be behind such a spectacle.

"This might not be evident right away; we need to observe closely."

Chen Xi, too, suspected Loki—completely. Yet he glanced at Thor, who seemed unwilling to believe Loki was responsible, and paused for a moment.

Thor had to be the one to feel disappointed in Loki, even to the point of confronting him directly.

Loki…

Must be dealt with by Thor himself.

Chen Xi maintained a calm exterior, but his mind was calculating.

"Then I'll send someone to check what's happening."

Thor glanced at him. Seeing no immediate action from Chen Xi, he relaxed slightly and nodded quickly:

"I'll go right now."

After a brief farewell, Thor left promptly.

Once he was gone, Gwen tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.

"My dear, you really plan to leave this investigation to the Asgardians?"

"With Loki's cunning, if he dares to act so openly, he must have prepared for our response," Chen Xi said calmly.

"After Asgard acts, it will be our turn. Or…" Chen Xi smiled suddenly, "Perhaps his plan is bigger, aiming to trap both sides at once."

Chen Xi was certain the latter was the more likely scenario.

The thought excited him—this was going to be interesting.

Soon, more events unfolded.

"A faction of mutants has defected to Loki's side and betrayed us!"

"Damn it! Chen Xi saved them, and this is how they repay him?"

The news of mutant betrayal was infuriating.

"Why worry?" Chen Xi said, unsurprised.

Even he couldn't guarantee everyone's loyalty; there was no reason to blame the rest.

His calm demeanor silenced those who had been defending him moments earlier.

"And… a horde of ogres appeared, attacking ordinary humans. The scenes are gruesome, and many have already been sent to contain them."

These ogres were terrifying.

Fortunately, they were distinguishable.

If they looked identical to humans, this planet might already be doomed.

"Let the Asgardians handle the rest. Our team will focus on the ogres."

Even with the ogres' appearance, Chen Xi frowned.

"Such a short period of peace… I thought these beautiful days could last longer…"

Wanda spoke, touched by the sudden chaos.

She hated war.

Because of it, she had lost family. Now, Chen Xi was all she had.

She instinctively hugged him.

Chen Xi didn't stop her and even patted her back reassuringly.

Wanda allowed herself a brief moment of weakness before quickly regaining composure.

"I'll lead a small team to handle the ogres," she volunteered.

"Good. The rest is up to you," Chen Xi nodded.

After leaving a kiss on Chen Xi's cheek, Wanda departed swiftly.

Her speed was remarkable, almost instant in locking onto her target direction.

Chen Xi watched her leave.

Shortly after, Gwen also departed.

She preferred being on the frontlines, dealing with those who dared disturb their home. Meanwhile, Stark's new equipment required support, which Gwen could handle.

Chen Xi remained alone in the room for a brief moment before heading to the frontlines.

As someone who could assure both humans and mutants, he couldn't simply wait at home for updates.

As soon as Chen Xi arrived, he wiped out a horde of ogres wreaking havoc in the city.

Nearby, Tony Stark transformed into Iron Man.

He should have been managing the equipment, but seeing the ogres stirred his blood. He couldn't focus on logistics—he had to fight.

With Gwen helping, there was nothing to worry about.

Suddenly, Captain America appeared:

"Iron Man! Let me lend a hand!"

"Good!"

Tony's eyes sparkled as familiar allies appeared one by one.

Their side quickly gained control over the ogres.

The battle was overwhelmingly in their favor.

Yet, in other areas, chaos still lingered.
