Chapter 13 - Mutation

Roarrrr!

The creature standing before Jonathan was monstrous to the point it had ceased to be human. Now anyone could see that fierce two-legged beast, bones protruding from its robust body, and a pair of horns from its head that could touch the ceiling.

Crack! Crack! Crack!

The temperature dropped, the walls cracked, and everyone felt a growing emptiness in their chests with each breath.

"Everyone fall back and cover the exit behind me." Jonathan gave the order as he removed the coat covering his body, revealing his special Exorcist Priest suit.

"You heard him, cover his back!"

Frederick didn't know what they meant by that, but seeing explosives being placed on the building's walls, he understood the last memory these people would have was of bringing the whole building down with the demon inside.

"Our priority is to ensure nothing interrupts our regent while he eliminates the special-category dark entity," Raj said with a fierce expression on his face.

At that moment, everyone felt fear and couldn't help but tremble. Raj, captain of the healing forces, was no exception. He was very afraid and knew that no matter what he did, he couldn't fight that incarnated demon head-on and survive.

He remembered the demon that had taken his best friend; it felt like it happened yesterday. Those vivid images exploded in his mind one after another, and inevitably, he thought about stepping forward to help Jonathan.

"You're not ready yet. Just watch and take care of everyone else," Jonathan muttered expressionlessly as he looked at the demon before him.

Jonathan was strong, that was undeniable, but he had gotten involved in something beyond his perception. Still, since he faced something new he had never fought before, he wanted to know how strong it was.

"Arrogant human…"

When the demon heard Jonathan's words, its ferocity increased several levels as it charged toward Jonathan, who held his sword in the air.

Boom!

The first clash between Jonathan's sword and the demon's attack collided. The edge of the divine light sword easily sliced the demon's chest. In return, the demon tried to pierce the exorcist's heart, who had chosen to confront it.

Despite wearing armor under his clothing, Jonathan was wounded and stepped back a dozen paces.

But as he retreated, Jonathan threw two bottles of holy water that splashed over part of the demon's body.

"Ahhhhhh!!!"

"Damn priest! How come you carry holy water if your beliefs aren't even in that worthless religion?!" the demon screamed as parts of its body smoked.

Jonathan looked at the open wound on his body, and seeing it didn't bleed much, he ignored the pain and focused solely on the fight. "You're a very unpleasant thing, did you know that?"

"[Mission in progress: ongoing]"

Seeing the mission was still ongoing meant Haley, who was several meters away, was still alive.

Realizing this, Jonathan now faced a demon mutation that had incubated in a human until it could have its own body. He had to be cautious until he adapted to the fight.

Demons once walked the earth, but they were all eliminated by medieval warriors in ancient times. It could be said this was the first time a demon had been seen in hundreds of years.

"Almighty God the Father, guide me in this battle and grant me an optimal outcome to remain your faithful warrior…" Jonathan murmured as he controlled every move thanks to his ability to adapt to combat.

Within seconds, the open wound on his arm, although not healed, stopped bleeding, and he could continue the fight more calmly.

Crack!

"I'll kill you!"

Sharpening his senses, Jonathan noticed the demon had moved and, amidst the dust, pulled out a grenade and forcefully threw it toward the demon.

There weren't many chances to experiment in this fight, so Jonathan sought a way to end it quickly.

Boom!

A huge explosion erupted in the building, breaking walls, shattering glass windows, and shaking the ground.

Jonathan, just a few meters away, saw the grenade explode on the demon's body, who kept running toward him before everything was engulfed in a cloud of dust.

The downside was that the smoke mixed with dust made vision difficult, and he could only sense the dark energy.

"Did it take no damage?"

To prevent that possibility, he pulled out one of his revolvers and loaded special demon-killing ammunition. After reloading, he switched to the other revolver, and soon both were fully loaded.

As soon as he finished loading, two sharp stones flew toward him, so Jonathan pulled his jacket up to protect his eyes and withstood the blows with little pain.

"I've got you!"

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Three powerful shots rang out in the smoke, each striking the demon, which seemed to still be moving.

Roooarrrrr!!!

"Human, how have you hurt me?" While these words sounded in Latin, Jonathan felt a dark aura rushing toward him at great speed.

If he were an ordinary person, he would be unable to move.

But Jonathan was far from ordinary, so, staying strong, he raised his defenses with the divine aura surrounding his body.

Bang! Bang!

Crack!

As Jonathan fired two more shots, a hand appeared before him, so quickly dropping his pistol, he raised his sword and cut off the demon's arm.

Though he had doubts before the fight began, once the battle started, thanks to his numerous abilities, he never faltered.

This was what he had become—his new identity and lifestyle were marked on his skin.

Jonathan, for the first time, felt like a true reaper of evil.
