"A parallel world, but a very distorted one. Not only does the supernatural dwell in this world, but also killers specialized in murder, and the timeline doesn't match anything at all…" Jonathan turned his gaze to the clothing store, shook his head trying to erase his questioning thoughts, and went down the elevator to take his car again.
As a global organization, The Healing Church stood far above any other, but one that was on par was the High Order, known for practically having control of the world. Yet even they followed the established commands of The Healing Church whenever the situation was related to the supernatural.
As he vaguely recalled who John was, Jonathan fell silent and asked himself for the first time since he woke up here where the hell he actually was. It was a parallel world. The exact same countries existed, but the years were different, and the eras didn't match anything he had once been familiar with in his original world.
Knowing that different beings existed here—beings that before were nothing but fiction—Jonathan truly grew excited and wondered what might happen in the future.
An alien invasion?
A powerful being searching for gems to control the world—that would be extreme, wouldn't it?
"I just hope later robots don't show up fighting in the middle of the city…" Jonathan muttered as he started the car.
Viggo's mafia—this businessman who had been able to handle crime in a subtle way—was now taking the offensive against a single man whom many considered unbeatable.
Even though it was a foreign mafia, its power in this country was so great that Viggo was respected in the underworld by all men and criminals alike.
Records show that his businesses included murder, robbery, smuggling, drug trafficking, extortion, human trafficking, among many other things. They did whatever they wanted to make money. They were notorious and extremely cruel. Most people didn't mess with them out of fear of the consequences.
Even so, if Viggo was chasing John, it meant he was as good as dead. Anyone who crossed that man would end up killed.
In this world, Jonathan had a clear disdain for crime; he despised those who brought evil and was willing to bury them without hesitation. But there were greater things he had to worry about, so he doubted whether he should involve himself in problems that were outside his jurisdiction.
He knew exactly part of John's story the moment he became aware of his existence—it was like a mechanism had switched on in his mind—and this was the first time something like that had happened.
He knew that John would unleash a bloodbath over the death of his dog and the theft from his car. At first, everything progressed normally, but as time passed John's life would become more and more bloody.
Thinking about this, it was purely by coincidence that Jonathan had heard of John, since he wasn't connected with the human underworld; anything unrelated to the supernatural didn't make it onto his list of concerns.
Jonathan didn't want to waste time fighting humans, so even though he supported John, he wanted to stay on the sidelines. After settling some of his thoughts, he headed toward the church.
"Who knows, maybe one day I'll be able to lend you a hand…"
…
When he arrived at the church, Jonathan returned to his good priestly persona.
All brutality vanished completely from his gaze, and now he appeared as a person with a kind heart.
Walking onto the altar, dressed in black and holding a Bible, he thought about everything that had happened since the last time he had been here.
"Kill, expel, and cleanse…" Jonathan murmured, knowing those were the three things he had done so far.
Exorcism and killing—those were only some of the most notorious things he had carried out. He wondered daily what it would be like when all of this ended. Right now, nerves consumed him, so he had started smoking nicotine-free cigarettes to calm himself down.
It worked, but it was boring, so he only did it occasionally.
After venting all his complaints, he sighed deeply and returned to one of the confessionals.
He had to write a report about the things he had done in recent days. As an exorcist priest, his duty was to inform The Healing Church of everything he did, and now that there was no more work, it was time to write the report.
First of all, task number one was the most detailed he had to write, since it was the most important. This was because the exorcism ritual was a very serious matter involving a mysterious power still largely unknown. Therefore, it was necessary to ensure that the person performing the exorcism had enough mental, moral, and spiritual capacity, as well as a proper understanding of what was being done.
Of course, in case of emergency, the priest could decide whether to perform an exorcism depending on the circumstances.
"Exorcisms…" In no time, Jonathan had written all the information about the evil spirit he had exorcised.
He was already very familiar with the procedure, but the only difference between him and ordinary priests was that he himself decided whether to exorcise or kill the possessed. Everyone else focused on helping, but no one considered whether doing it—or not doing it—was too easy or too dangerous.
As a Belmont, and the youngest to become an exorcist, what he was achieving so far was unimaginable for others, but ordinary for his family.
Regarding this, Jonathan had also been very surprised at first. The world was now in a modern age, but it didn't show much of that modernism.
The Healing Church, for example, was sometimes too rustic, since they had to send messages involving the paranormal directly through carrier pigeons.
"Come on, boy, take th—" Looking at this intelligent carrier pigeon, Jonathan's eyes softened. This pigeon had been with him for several years and was like a companion to him.
As he watched the pigeon fly off, Jonathan was about to return home when he suddenly saw a woman standing at the entrance of the church, staring at him intently.
"Who are you?"
