Chapter 42 - Vulnerable

Boom!

Jonathan kept pressing the knife with his telekinesis, but soon discovered that Terry's muscles were so thick they basically covered all of his internal organs.

"This is getting more interesting…" Jonathan narrowed his eyes and stepped back, retracting the knife, which then landed in his hand.

Terry looked swollen with muscle.

The veins bulged all over his body while his skin was already turning red.

He had practically become inhuman.

"What kind of monster is that?" Enid thought she was standing in front of the one responsible for the deaths of those foreigners, which filled her with fear.

Once Terry grew even bigger, Enid unconsciously took a step back—except Wednesday, who would never abandon such a marvelous spectacle.

"He's eight times stronger…" Wednesday murmured, recalling her most recent vision.

If it weren't for Terry's tendency to talk so much, she wouldn't know much about the fight.

Crack!

As faint steam rose from his body, Terry's face no longer resembled the original.

"Belmont…" Even his voice grew thicker, making him even more inhuman. "In this state, not even bullets could kill me. Just one blow and you're dead."

But as always, Jonathan was indifferent. "Can you even move in that form?"

He didn't seem to care about Terry's answer as he charged at him once more.

"Looks like you'll die faster than I thought…!" Terry frowned and crossed his arms to shield his head.

My bones are also eight times stronger, but in this state, my flexibility is greatly reduced!

Hiding behind a car alongside Wednesday, Enid couldn't help but admire the courage of a hunter. Even with disadvantages, he faced dangers without fear.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Jonathan stabbed the knife against one of Terry's crossed arms. However, just as Terry had said, it felt like stabbing a rock.

"Ha! Didn't you hear what I—? Aaaah!"

Unexpectedly, Jonathan raised his foot and kicked Terry in the groin. Even Wednesday's eyes widened at what Jonathan had just done. "That's my move."

This monster talks too much… Jonathan thought irritably. How can someone be so chatty in a fight?

"Go to hell!" Terry only seemed to flinch and swung his enormous arms in response to the continuous slashes. Just like before, even though he had grown, he still moved the same—or so everyone perceived.

Although his speed was eight times greater than before, his weight had also increased along with his muscles, canceling out that boost in speed.

So, with the same speed as at the beginning, Jonathan didn't need to adjust and dodged just as before. But this time, after retreating, he leaped forward almost immediately.

Oh no! I let my emotions control my attacks! Terry panicked as he tried to pull back his arms to defend himself.

But this time, Jonathan was faster. Using his knife, he climbed Terry's back as if it were a small hill. His actions were swift, and Terry could only see Jonathan vanish from in front of him.

Those indifferent eyes, his deranged smile, and the explosive excitement shining in them appeared only when his ability—battle frenzy—was fully activated.

"ARGH!!" Terry immediately tensed every muscle from his neck to the back of his head and tried to headbutt Jonathan, who was standing on his back.

Eight times the hardness. Jonathan's knife alone couldn't pierce the muscles Terry had unleashed on his nape.

But as if Jonathan had predicted it, he pressed the knife against Terry's nape. He didn't stab forward—he simply set up Terry's head to measure him.

Is he resting? Terry wondered for a few seconds before one of his eyes suffered an unexpected attack from the front, where originally no one had been.

Crack!

"AH…!"

Feeling the blade of a knife in his left eye, Terry's face twisted in pain. He thought he had surprised Jonathan by attacking directly, but this time he had been deceived.

Luckily for Terry, he managed to stop the attack before the blade reached his brain. As for his left eye—well, it was gone.

"AHHHH!"

All of that happened in an instant. Jonathan took a blow to the chest but still held firm. Meanwhile, Terry screamed and bled. He tried to carefully pull out the painful blade from his left eye, but Jonathan didn't stop as he landed back on the ground.

With his right eye, Terry saw Jonathan closing in on him. Only one thought remained in his mind: He's going to kill me…

At that moment, he grew so desperate that his body expanded one last time.

The steam rising became abundant. His reddened body turned black and blue as if about to explode. His elastic pants tore apart, leaving only shorts.

Sixteen times!

This time, Wednesday didn't know what was happening—she only saw Terry's body grow larger.

"I might die, but I'll kill you first!" Terry's voice grew hoarse and heavy.

His appearance had become monstrous, far from human. His muscles were so huge they covered his head and doubled his height compared to Jonathan, who was already tall.

Terry clenched his teeth until they cracked. Every time he moved, he felt his bones on the verge of collapsing. He had safely surpassed his limit.

Just one blow! Just one blow and I'll crush this demon like a mosquito! Terry thought, praying for a chance.

"Ha, ha, ha… Jonathan, you're out of weapons now. How are you going to defeat me? Do you think you can hurt me with your bare fists?" Terry tried to speak with force.

He wanted Jonathan to feel discouraged, afraid, and lost. If Jonathan panicked and ran, Terry was confident he could catch him before he even turned around.

"Hunter, he's already at his limit!" Enid suddenly shouted.

"Grrr…" Like an animal, it was much easier for Terry to growl.

How does that bitch know!? Terry immediately stopped thinking. He looked at Jonathan charging at him again.

"Truly fearless, huh?" Terry said with a grin, though inside he was surprised.

Is he stupid, or does he still have confidence? No, we're talking about a boy with mysterious origins who wiped out an important branch of the meta-human drug trade. I must be careful!

After removing the knife from his left eye, Terry braced himself for what was coming.

But the next moment, Jonathan moved his hands and hundreds of metal rods scattered everywhere rose slowly into the air.

"How is that possible?"

Before Terry could think, Jonathan attacked again. He clenched his teeth and crossed his arms to shield his face once more.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The rods shot into Terry's body one after another, dealing considerable damage to the muscles bulging from his frame.

Jonathan, on the other hand, didn't even need to move—he was actually enjoying himself.

"I can't hold on…"

Crack! Crack! Crack!

The metal rods slowly shattered Terry's body, and without realizing it, one pierced through his knee.

"ARGHHHHHH!!!"

Jonathan stepped forward, his gaze filled with utter contempt toward Terry. "You are very powerful, and I admit that. But I am stronger, faster, and far more powerful when it comes to superhuman abilities."

The rods stopped moving and hovered above Jonathan, who had ceased his attack. He walked toward Terry, looked at his broken body, and then asked: "Now will you tell me why you're hunting me?"
