Chapter 17 - Train Train Train

The next day in class, I attempt to get some shut-eye before the inevitable storm called Roulette awakens me from my fantasies.

I have my head down in my arms. Hearing the impending footsteps approach me; I brace for impact.

"Saint? Class is about to begin, it would be better to quiz yourself instead of napping."

I lift my head, confused if I'm still dreaming, as I'm pleasantly surprised to see Kunnia with her mature and bossy atmosphere. "To think I would be awakened by the song of an angel."

She looks down at me, cross-armed. "And what's that supposed to mean? Are you mocking me?"

"Quite the opposite."

"Well, anyway, did you hear about the masked man who saved a group of trapped students?"

It seems she has completely forgiven the fact that I nearly killed her yesterday; maybe it's some kind of knight code? Forgive thy killer? Or maybe she likes me. I look up at her as she has zero sense of affection in her eyes.

I want to go back to daydreaming.

"I can't say I have. What did he do?" I lie.

"Apparently, there was a group of students taken hostage by a student in our class."

I attempt to act as surprised as possible.

"Really? Who was it?"

"Well... personally, I don't like to gossip. But from what I've heard, it was Melo. They aren't certain, and the school claims he has gone missing."

Melo? Missing? How odd.

"Really? Melo? A killer? I never would have guessed. He seemed so..." Resisting the urge to make a pun about my dead classmate's name. "...Melo." I fail.

"Could you at least act surprised?" Kunnia requests.

"Is it all that surprising that there's a killer at our killer school?"

Kunnia pouts with crossed arms. "I'm still not convinced this school is as evil as you claim."

"You shall see soon enough. Regardless, was there something you needed? Unless you're just here to look at my handsome face."

"No! I just thought I should warn you. In fact, I was hoping that Melo had killed you." Kunnia recoils and turns her head away.

Aww, she's a tsundere... I hope, or maybe she really does want me dead.

She returns to her desk, and... as if on cue, Roulette walks in as loud as ever. Luckily the teacher saves me from her mindless babble as he comes in soon after.

As Kunnia sits, she whips around, it would appear as though she remembered the rematch she was hoping for yesterday. But she manages to restrain herself to prevent interrupting the class and suffers in silence.

"Good morning, sleepy head!" Roulette pats my back as I attempt to sleep.

"Good morning, mosquito," I grumble.

"I'm not entirely sure what that is. But I will give you the benefit of the doubt and say it's a beautiful creature with wings that crosses the skies!"

"We'll... go with that."

Silho glares at the class. Yet everyone is quiet before he could even consider getting upset. Except... Roulette, who is babbling about something in my ear.

Silho creates an entity from her shadow, which... assists her in finding her seat, to put it nicely.

"Listen up! Just because you all act like babies thrown into a meat grinder when faced with the smallest dilemma, it doesn't mean that you don't have potential. As I said before, we may have a diamond in the rough and not realize it, but for now... you're all just ashes that the world forgot to scrap off the side of the cremation chamber. I say this because today, we will be going out to the arena. Pack up your stuff and meet me out there in ten."

Roulette turns to me with her usual smirk as she sings mockingly. "I get to see your power! Ooh! Is it the ability to be unlucky? Or does it make those around you depressed? Well, if that were the case, I must be your weakness." She winks at me.

I haven't tried all that hard to hide my power; the price of secrecy is not worth the moment of doubt it could cost. Inversely, for the first time, I'm actually interested in Roulette. I see a majority of my classmates with swords, but she flings around a Colt 1860 like it's her firstborn. She seems confident, meaning she could likely beat me in a one-on-one fight.

Roulette catches me staring. "Hmm? What's this? You never stare at me. Could it be... you were having pervy thoughts about me?!"

"And what if I was?" I lie.

"I would know that you're lying. I'm far too annoying to get you excited."

So she is conscious of how annoying she is?

"Maybe if it was like a punishment thing, spanking? Like, venting your anger out on me-" She continues.

Walking away, fearing I may get turned on.
