Chapter 40 - Run

"Like I said... 'Teamwork keeps you alive.' Teamwork isn't just sticking together, communicating, or looking out for your brothers and your sisters. It is laying down your life; it's being the uncredited guy who made the mission possible; it's sitting down with your team and saying I cannot do it alone; I need help." Vladimir walked across the whiteboard. "I will be honest 2 teams failed in that regard because they had confidence in themselves and nothing else. Some were going far and wide, some were analytical, some were ready to die for their civilian."

"On its own, not terrible, but what's 100 live civilians if the only person protecting them is dead because they didn't communicate, or they were too scared to say, 'Hold on, stay and help me for a minute'." The class nodded; it was a lecture, a boring lecture. "Anyways... You are going into a long day of running; you will run until I get tired."

...

The sun was starting to set, and the cold autumn air hit. Kairo's throat felt inflamed... "And I am not tired." Vladimir said from a comfy seat whilst wearing a trenchcoat-style puffer jacket, "Who wants another lap?" Dak threw up. As they walked inside, they immediately hit the showers and explored the base; then they went into a lounge, and Kairo recognised it immediately. Nova looked at Kairo before throwing him a small metal cylinder, which Kairo immediately caught. "WILL YOU STOP THAT!"

Nova just laughed, "It's still not explosive." The class split up, and 2 table overs there was a table of 4 playing cards; they were all massive. Kairo could see two Apex Operatives: a Senior Operative and a Major Operative. One of the Apex operatives slammed his cards down and declared, "This game is bullshit, you know." Before storming away, "Cam Clark, big baby." It was Angel, Terrell and another operative he had never seen or heard of.

Kairo walked over. "Sup." The group looked at Kairo, looked at each other, and told him to have a seat. "You good, kid...?" Kairo nodded at this question from Angel. "So why you here... talking to us?" Kairo thought about this question. "My instructor said teamwork keeps you alive, but to be honest... how do you guys work as a team?" They looked around... "To be honest, kid... you gotta make friends with the people you work with; the easier teamwork becomes and trust, they more the people around you trust you the less they're likely to say screw you, I'm not following the plan."

Kairo nodded, "Yeah, Vladimir made it seem like you had to cross off this list to be good at teamwork." The table froze. "Vladimir... That hard bastard is training rookies... If he had his way, only 2 people a year would pass his class." The unknown Major Operative said, dying of laughter
