Synopsis
A single, massive larva emerges in Cinderpoint, terrorising the city. Kairo Veylan, 17, impulsive and eager to prove himself, tries to confront the creature on his own. His attempts are futile, leaving him exposed and vulnerable amid the destruction. During the chaos, an Altitude Bay Protection Unit Agent arrives—skilled, decisive, and lethal. She neutralises the larvae efficiently, saving Kairo from certain death. Though he witnesses their incredible abilities firsthand, he remains a supporting observer, learning the harsh reality of the ABPU’s world. This encounter leaves Kairo shaken but inspired. He sees the scale of danger, the necessity of skill, and the stark difference between courage and experience. The event marks the turning point in his life, motivating him to pursue a path that will take him beyond ordinary existence, yet keeping him independent and unshadowed by the heroes he watched that day.

Chapter 1 - Kairo

The autumn draught washed over Altitude Bay, with clear skies with minimal clouds in sight, a large metropolis on the Bay, overlooking the Ashwater Sea. Drones dipped through the buildings, and on the outskirts, helicopters oversaw the gang-ridden slums, between the tier 1 and tier 3, no one could feel safe enough.

At St. Bournewell High, students watched in horror as a giant larva flopped around spewing a sticky, corrosive mucus. The students were gathered on the Football Field as most of them had started to whip out their phones and record the event. At least no more science for the next couple of weeks. Kairo had scaled the roof of a maths building, as no one noticed him, and as the maggot flopped around, a helicopter approached.

Kairo was taller than most, standing at 5'11 "and weighing around 165 pounds. His short, dirty-blond hair was ruffled by the wind and the shockwave from the Larva. Kairo then punched the air in front of him, causing a gust of wind that hit the maggot. The maggot stopped as the helicopter noticed the maggot turning towards a building. Kairo had gotten its attention with zero damage done. The helicopter's side door opened as the Larva prepared to spit its corrosive mess at Kairo, suddenly it was hit by a large crystal around the size of an American Football. It was then followed by an explosion that scorched the Maggot.

Then a girl jumped out, firing another crystal, which burnt the 100-yard Larva but narrowly missed the kill shot. She landed feet shy of Kairo, her long, snow white hair fell with her as she looked over at Kairo before grunting, "Lucan, Hinari, Marlon?" There was no radio response, "I am at the rooftop west of the main building, Lucan, Hinari, meet me there when you decide to show up."

She removed the hammer from her back before noticing Kairo, "Don't interfere, kid." She then leapt from the building as she brought down the hammer with such explosive force, the Larva went belly up and died.
