Chapter 43 - Nine

Nine Operatives entered a room, all Senior Operatives and there at the front of the room stood Master Cael Vance. As Terrell sat down, he noted the faces who were also here when everyone entered. Master Vance began, "Welcome. We have narrowed the group down to 9 candidates. As you know, an Apex Operative role has opened up." The room burst into murmuring; they knew why it opened up, but not only that, people had failed before even being considered.

There was a bigger fella at the back of the room. "Narrowed it down based on what exactly?" Master Vance nodded as he looked around the room at everyone individually. "First, potential. Will you grow into your role and grow beyond it?" There was a murmur; it was a compliment. "Secondly, experience: how long have you been a senior operative, and how many missions have you been on?" As murmuring began, Master Vance cut it off. "Silence, please. Leadership and teamwork: all of you have led missions where you were able to bring out the best in your teammates."

There was silence this time. "Finally, what only a few of you have done is mentor. There's more to the ABPU than simply how many demons you can kill or missions you can complete. The ABPU is founded on the next generation, this is why, we have decided all of you are going to pick a recruit and no poaching if you didn't bring them in don't try claim them from someone else do did bring that rookie in."

Then Master Cael walked out. The room burst into speaking and chaotic conversations. Aria at the back had recruited Nova; therefore, she was picking Nova. At some point, Terrell spoke up, "I'm taking Kairo." The room froze, then he heard, "No." It came from the back; a shorter individual said no, "I have a right to Kairo."

"Okay then," Terrell continued, "I'm choosing Dakota." The room then returned to that chaotic murmuring, and when they were done, they had left... and then they were all standing outside Vladimir's Classroom.
