"DXD: Transfer Student"Chapter 215: Access Denied!
Yuri staggered to his feet, and Draconis Yi jumped in, "Let me call you a cab."
"No need. I'll get one myself!" Yuri's voice trembled, thick with tears.
I shouldn't be here. I should be under a car somewhere…
Draconis Yi sighed, glancing at Yuri's blood-streaked face. "Honestly, I meant maybe an ambulance would be better…"
Surviving Yor's slap and still standing? That was borderline supernatural.
This brother-sister duo—neither of them was remotely normal.
But Yuri insisted, so Draconis Yi simply watched as his brother-in-law limped away. He knew Yuri was no pushover; you didn't make elite status without grit.
Back inside, Yor was out cold, sprawled across the couch.
Why do you even bother with alcohol if you can't handle it?
Draconis Yi shook his head, equal parts exasperated and relieved. Disaster averted. He'd managed to fool Yuri, at least for now.
He bent down, scooped Yor up, and carried her to the bedroom.
Suddenly, Yor's body tensed. Her eyes snapped open, locking onto his.
"I'm just taking you back to bed," he explained, caught off guard by her sudden wakefulness.
Yor glanced at him, then turned away—and promptly vomited.
Draconis Yi: "…."
Well, the siblings' drinking habits were equally disastrous.
No more alcohol for you. Ever.
He cleaned up, carried the now-unconscious Yor back to bed, tidied the mess in the living room, and washed his hands before returning to the bedroom.
Just in case, he decided to keep watch.
People could choke on their own vomit when drunk—it wasn't unheard of. Yor probably wouldn't, but better safe than sorry.
He settled into the rocking chair beside the bed, switched on the lamp, and pulled a book of human history from the shelf.
He suspected this world and his old one were tangled together in ways he hadn't yet unraveled. Whenever he read, he found echoes of his past life scattered through these pages.
The night crept by. Eventually, he set the book aside, checked Yor's sleeping form, and closed his eyes in the chair.
—
Morning came.
After a long, deep sleep, Yor finally woke, blinking away the fog in her head.
She found herself on an unfamiliar bed, staring up at the ceiling.
Confused, she blinked, soft and dazed, trying to piece together what had happened.
Five seconds passed before memory returned.
Right—she'd come to Draconis Yi's place to meet Yuri.
She remembered drinking, but after that… nothing.
Oh no. Did I really get that drunk?
How could this happen…
She sat up nervously and spotted Draconis Yi in the rocking chair, an open book on his lap.
There was a basin of water and a towel by the bed. Clearly, Draconis Yi had stayed up all night looking after her.
Guilt flooded Yor.
What was she thinking, getting drunk at such a crucial moment?
She hurried over.
"Draconis Yi?"
He stirred, eyes opening calmly.
"You're awake."
"Um… yes. Did you really stay up all night for me? I'm so sorry. It's still early—why don't you sleep in the bed for a bit?"
"No need. It's time to get up anyway."
He gave her a gentle smile, closed his book, and placed it back on the shelf.
"Your brother saw you were drunk and went home early yesterday."
"I… I'm really sorry. I didn't expect any of this…"
Yor's voice was anxious. "I didn't say anything stupid, did I?"
Draconis Yi chuckled. "If anything, you were even more convincing drunk."
He stretched. "All things considered, I think we're in the clear."
If Yuri checked his records, he'd only find the identity Rias had set up in advance. Even the age on the ID had been changed—Yuri wouldn't find a single crack.
What Draconis Yi didn't know:
Yuri had gone straight to the State Security Bureau to investigate Draconis Yi's background.
But instead of a full dossier, Yuri was met with four cold words:
Access Denied!
Yuri had been stunned.
He was a captain now—how could he be blocked from Draconis Yi's file?
Just how high was this guy's clearance?
No wonder Draconis Yi seemed clueless about recent Bureau affairs—he must operate at a level Yuri couldn't even imagine.
Yuri's mind spun with wild theories.
Meanwhile, Draconis Yi assumed Rias had everything handled. In truth, his file had been locked down as classified before Rias even finished the paperwork—her arrangements had arrived just a step too late.
Lucky coincidence, maybe. Either way, his identity was airtight.
Yor, reassured by Draconis Yi's calm, finally relaxed.
"Sorry I didn't help at all," she said, embarrassed. Thinking of how he'd solved her problems and cared for her all night, she felt a wave of gratitude.
He's so gentle.
Is this really a demon…?
If this kept up, she'd be ashamed of all those years she'd misunderstood demons.
"No need to worry. I'm just fulfilling my contract," Draconis Yi replied with a smile. "If you ever need anything, just ask."
"Thank you. Really."
"I'll head out now. Here's my house key—you should stay here from now on. I'll drop by when I can."
They were supposed to be living together, after all. Draconis Yi would need to show up often to keep up appearances and avoid suspicion.
Yor accepted the key, satisfied. As long as she could keep hunting traitors, she was happy.
Draconis Yi said goodbye. To make the act convincing, he didn't teleport away—he let Yor see him off, playing up the sweet couple routine for the neighbors.
All this, just to fulfill a contract.
Draconis Yi couldn't help but sigh.
