Chapter 15 - 15

HYDRA has set its sights on Mutants and the x-gene that grants Mutant abilities. Many solitary Mutants have been captured by the HYDRA organization for live research."

"We have conducted many rescue operations, but usually, we can only retrieve the corpses of our compatriots."

"Moreover, the number of us who can fight… is too small."

"Therefore, we can only choose to cooperate with the FBI at this critical juncture."

After listening to Professor X's reasons, Director Fury immediately retorted, "HYDRA is an old adversary of our American General Bureau. I don't believe they have the capability to hunt down Mutants like you on a large scale."

"Director Fury, whether before or after your memory wipe, your understanding of our race has always been insufficiently detailed." Professor X shook his head.

"Powerful warriors among Mutants are extremely rare. It's no exaggeration to say that the X-Men behind him are one in a million. The abilities of most Mutants are very weak and can even cause problems for normal life."

Li Chengfeng helped Professor X explain.

"I once thought that integrating into ordinary human society and living in permanent seclusion was the best way out for Mutants, but the existence of HYDRA shattered my illusion." Professor X shook his head self-deprecatingly. "Hiding in a corner, we will sooner or later be devoured alive by invaders."

After listening, Nick Fury didn't answer. Instead, he turned to look at Li Chengfeng and whispered softly,

"How credible is what this person says?"

"His character is beyond doubt. He is the strongest psychic in the World. If he wanted to, brainwashing all of America would only be a matter of time. But he hasn't done that, meaning he only wiped part of your memory when you acted in a way that endangered their race."

"You brainwashed me, can I really trust him?"

"You're acting like you're out of breath when I just called you fat. Think about all the unethical things your American General Bureau used to do. He only wiped memories related to Mutants; he was really merciful. Otherwise, couldn't he have just brainwashed you into an idiot? The kind who drools and calls for his mother while soiling himself in bed."

Nick Fury shivered, evidently imagining that hellish scene.

Even as the king of Agents who never fully trusted anyone, he couldn't help but believe him a little.

Putting everything else aside, if Professor X were replaced by Li Chengfeng, that petty person, he would definitely end up looking exactly as Li Chengfeng had just fabricated!

"So, do you have any thoughts?"

"Huh? Nick Fury, you're not really getting senile, are you?" Li Chengfeng looked at Nick Fury with an expression reserved for Alzheimer's patients. "Have you forgotten that our American General Bureau is also severely understaffed? From what I understand, our brothers and Sisters at the entire American General Bureau haven't had a single day off for four consecutive months, and they have to work overtime every day! Even people from the Internal Affairs Department have been temporarily dispatched to various departments to help!"

"So you mean…"

"You won't absorb an existing team of super-powered individuals into the FBI, waiting for them to be brainwashed and divided by HYDRA before they are absorbed?"

Nick Fury patted his bald head.

In his injured and blood-loss state, his mind was indeed a bit sluggish.

That's right, the FBI needed people to solve various supernatural events, and the X-Men needed people to deal with the threat of HYDRA.

Cooperate with each other to solve each other's problems.

Why not?

Win-win, a situation where everyone benefits.

After reaching a consensus, Li Chengfeng immediately straightened up and simultaneously deactivated his Green Lantern transformation.

He really wasn't used to tight-fitting battle suits; it was embarrassing.

"Since we're discussing cooperation, let's find a decent place. I don't want to negotiate while sitting in a pile of zombies."

...Led by the X-Men, Li Chengfeng, Ada Wong, and Harley Quinn arrived outside Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.

As for Nick Fury, after fully entrusting the negotiation to Li Chengfeng, he went back to the airbus's automatic medical pod to play dead.

When people get old, their bones become fragile.

Along the way, several young Mutants occasionally ran past them.

Li Chengfeng was used to it, but Ada Wong and Harley Quinn were very curious.

Especially Harley Quinn; if Ada Wong hadn't kept pulling her back, she probably would have already run off to play soccer with those Mutant kids.

After becoming a psychopath, she certainly became more energetic.

After walking a distance through the school, they finally arrived at the Headmaster's office, which was also the original site of Xavier Manor.

Though called an "office," it was actually an entire old manor.

The earliest Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters originated here.

But they didn't enter the manor directly. Instead, they came to an open space nearby.

Beast walked to the second flowerbed on the right and pressed it a few times. Subsequently, a passage leading underground opened up in the open space before them.

Walking into the passage, another scene unfolded.

High-tech facilities were everywhere.

There were also a few other X-Men stationed here.

White Queen, Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Mystique.

"Professor, what's the situation with these three people?" Cyclops stepped forward and spoke softly to Professor X. "Is it really okay to bring them here?"

"If nothing unexpected happens, we will be colleagues who share everything in the future, so there's no need for concealment here."

Professor X's words were very well received by Li Chengfeng.

One could only say that Nick Fury was really on the ball.

Upon hearing this, Cyclops raised his eyes, covered by his visor, and looked at Li Chengfeng, then led everyone to a conference table.

"Please take a seat, Agents three."

After Professor X invited the three to sit down, the negotiation officially began.

"Professor X, I have now understood all of your demands. To be honest, our interests and needs are actually very consistent. We need people to solve the rapidly increasing supernatural events in recent years, and to protect civilians from encountering things they shouldn't before they are ready. And you also need to deal with the threat of HYDRA, an old-school villain organization."

"For the FBI, HYDRA is also one of our key targets."

"Therefore, I believe that the X-Men joining the FBI is a completely win-win situation for both sides, especially since many senior Agents of the FBI have retired in the past decade or so. Otherwise, there wouldn't be such a severe shortage of personnel. The X-Men joining can just fill some of the vacancies for senior Agents."

Li Chengfeng's meaning was very simple.

Join the FBI, and they would be one family from then on. He even suggested promoting X-Men members to high-level positions in the American General Bureau, and Nick Fury would become one of the decision-makers.

"I strongly agree with these points."

Nick Fury nodded, but then changed the subject to another matter.

"But what I value more, in fact, are these children in the school. They are young and have potential, making them a primary target for HYDRA…"

"That's simple." Li Chengfeng pondered for a moment and gave the answer.

"Since the X-Men and the FBI are merging into one, why shouldn't Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters and the FBI Academy merge as well?"

"Guaranteed job placement after graduation, high salaries and benefits, and civil servant status—you'll be eating the nation's food, my dears!"
