Chapter 5 - A Change of Decision

"At least you know your worth," A snort came from ahead of Katy. It was Gwen who was still irritated and jealous about the fact that Victor had such intimate feelings for Katy.

"If you're interested in him, why not go and tell him face to face rather than acting like this before me. All I need to say is a 'yes' and he'll forever be mine afterwards," Katy teased Gwen a little to further irritate her.

It worked perfectly.

"You-!" Gwen was about to enter into an argument with Katy, but just then her name was called from the stage.

"Tenth Ranker: Gwen Hugh!"

A series of claps resounded in the auditorium, and Gwen had no choice but to ignore Katy and enter the stage while plastering a wide smile on her face.

'Two-faced bitch,' Katy commented in her mind with a snort and patiently waited for the her name to be called.

Throughout this period, Victor's eyes were staring towards Katy's back as a sense of humiliation and anger kept welling up inside him.

'She actually dared to refuse me,' Victor thought with his fists clenched while maintaining an unperturbed smile on his face.

He had not expected to be refused by her at all, but now that this has happened, he was even more determined to make Katy his.

'Good, it's more fun this way. I refuse to believe that you'll keep rejecting me, as otherwise you'll gain the ire of the other top rankers. With that, it would be quite difficult for you to work in the entertainment industry, wouldn't it? A subtle smirk formed on Victor's face as he made follow-up plans in his mind.

The anchor kept calling one name after another and it was finally Katy's turn.

"Sixth Ranker: Katy Perkinson!"

Katy soon entered the stage with a confident smile and accepted her gold-encrusted certificate from the director.

"I wish you great success in the future," he said in an elderly tone with a smile.

"Thank you, sir," Katy grabbed the certificate and posed for a picture while clearly noticing Samantha's figure moving here and there behind the cameraman to take pictures from her own phone.

An amused expression formed on her face as she soon thanked the other faculty members and got off the stage.

With the certificate in hand, she soon met with Samantha.

"I got some amazing pictures of you! I'll be posting them on my social media later, hehe," Samantha excitedly said while showing the pictures to Katy.

"Hey, don't do that," Katy told her not to do so, but Samantha blatantly rejected her and replied, "I refuse. The world needs to know that my best friend is still single. Though you'd better make me your bridesmaid in your wedding, or our relationship is over,"

Samantha exaggeratedly rolled her eyes at the end of her sentence, making Katy giggle at her antics as they moved outside the auditorium. It was too loud inside.

"On that note, in the backstage earlier, Victor confessed to me," Katy told her when they were outside.

A frown immediately appeared on Samantha's face as she asked, "What did you do? Did you accept it?"

"No, it was all too sudden for me. Besides, I've never thought of him in that manner," Katy stated while looking towards Samantha.

"Thank god!" Samantha exclaimed with relief on her face when she heard Katy and continued, "You did a good job! I don't know why, but I've always felt this bad vibe coming from him, even though there's always a smile plastered on his face.

Maybe it's just me thinking too much, but still, I'm glad that you rejected him."

Hearing Samantha's reaction, Katy's brows were subtly raised. In her past life, when she had told Samantha that she had decided to date Victor, although not very enthusiastic, she still supported her decision.

'She really cares a lot for me,' Katy thought to herself and suggested the next moment, "How about we grab a coffee in the nearby café? Or we can just attend the function until the end if you want."

"Are you kidding?! Now that you've been awarded, what am I going to watch that boring event for? Let's go to our usual place and relax a little," Samantha readily agreed to Katy's suggestion, and the two left the school's premises the next moment.

The two soon arrived at one of their regular cafés and grabbed their cup before taking a seat at a spot.

"So, you'll be joining the Terence Entertainment Agency, right? When is your joining date?" Samantha asked all of a sudden while taking a sip of her creamy coffee.

Terence was one of the top 20 entertainment agencies in the country, and being among the top 10 rankers in the acting school, Katy was fortunate enough to get recommended there, along with the other nine.

"I was planning to…but I've changed my mind," Katy said after a thought.

"What?! You're really throwing away this golden opportunity?" The coffee which Samantha had just sipped almost came out of her mouth as she looked at Katy with an incredulous and inquisitive expression.

Katy understood Samantha's reaction and answered her doubts, "Gwen's father has a managerial post in Terence's branch office here. It's obvious that she'll try to make things difficult for me there."

This was an information that Katy had only become aware of after joining the agency in her past life.

What awaited her was dirty politics and continuous suppression from the staff members. It was one of the starting roadblocks that directed her fate into a downward spiral.

"That really is a problem…I shouldn't have been so rude to her earlier," Samantha muttered with a worried expression.

"You don't need to worry about that. I already have a good entertainment agency in mind." Katy stated, seeing the worry on Samantha's face.

"Oh, you do?" Relief appeared on Samantha's face. Just when she was about to ask which agency it was, Katy suddenly said, "On this note, I wanted your help a little."

"What is it?" Samantha asked without any hesitation as she waited for Katy to finish.

"Please apply to that entertainment agency along with me," Katy requested with conviction in her eyes. This was her first step to change Samantha's fate.
