The next morning Katy woke up at eight in the morning and, after freshening up, helped her mother with breakfast. It was only by ten in the morning that they left their apartment.
"There was really no need for it. I'm fully fit," Katy's mother muttered once again in the taxi as they were going towards the hospital.
Hearing this for the Nth time, Katy once again replied in the same manner, "It's still better to get regular health checkups, don't you think?"
Her mom could only purse her lips at those words and look outside the window.
Katy smiled at her reaction and read some acting theory knowledge on her phone.
About forty-five minutes later, they reached the hospital and got out of the taxi.
Creta Hospital
Kate glanced at the hospital's name written in bold on top of the entrance. It was one of the reputable hospitals in the city therefore she had chosen it.
The next moment she took a deep breath and entered the hospital with her mother.
In her past life, it was three and a half years later that her mother had suffered from a heart attack.
At that time, the doctors had told Katy that the blockages in her mother's heart were quite severe and operating on them would carry a very high mortality risk.
Taking those risk factors into account, they had decided not to conduct the operation and her mother was forced to rely upon continuous medication to keep her heart in check.
Katy still remembered the tired and defeated expression her lively and energetic mother started carrying on her face because of this illness.
Katy didn't want her to suffer like that once more and therefore hoped that this early check-up would bring some good news to her.
They soon approached the reception desk and, after waiting for a while, were directed by the staff to conduct the requisite tests. Katy had already informed them to keep the focus on her mother's heart, and that's what they did.
After conducting a blood glucose test, a blood pressure test and an ECG was conducted.
These were then examined by the attending doctor. It was soon followed by an Angiogram, and the results were clear to the doctors.
A while later, in the doctor's cabin, Katy and her mother were sitting beside each other and were facing the doctor.
"Mrs Perkinson, your test readings showed slight fluctuations, so we had conducted an angiogram at the end, and the results are with us now," The doctor said and showed some images to Katy's mother on the projector beside him.
A nervous frown appeared on the face of Katy's mother, and her breathing quickened the very next moment. Seeing this, Katy tightly gripped her mother's hand and nodded towards her.
It gave her mother the strength she needed as she took a deep breath and listened to the doctor's words.
Katy's heart, too, was beating rapidly, though she tried her best to maintain a calm expression on her face in order not to worry her mother.
"You may not be able to see it properly, but there are signs of plaque buildup in your arteries," The doctor said after a brief pause and continued, "However, the buildup is still in its initial stages and we are lucky to be able to discover it this early."
"Then it can be cured, right? My mother's life isn't at risk, right?" Katy couldn't help but ask the very next moment as those words entered her ears.
The doctor smiled, seeing the concern Katy carried for her mother and nodded at her.
"Right. Your mother's not at any risk now that we have discovered the symptoms this early. I'll be prescribing her some medicines for a month, which would help in removing the buildup.
Along with that, there are also some lifestyle changes that your mother would need to do, and soon she would be back to normal," The doctor told Katy and then looked towards her mother, who couldn't help but cry because of the sudden release of pressure.
Katy consoled her mother while patting her back and said in a joyful manner, "It's alright, mom, you'll be fine. See, I told you to get a checkup, and it helped, didnt it?"
"It definitely helped, dear. I'm glad I listened to you," Her mother answered with a tearful smile on her face.
The doctor allowed the mother-daughter duo to calm down before he finally prescribed Katy's mother the required medicines.
He asked her about her daily eating and workout routine and suggested some changes to it.
Katy noted all those suggestions on a piece of paper and finally left the hospital building with her mother, with relief apparent on her face.
Katy made her mother sit on a bench in a nearby park and went to the pharmacy nearby to buy the required medicines. A while later, she returned while holding a small plastic pouch and entered the taxi with her mother.
At home, the first thing Katy did was to dispose of all the items that carried excess sugar in them, as per the doctor's advice and helped her mother prepare a proper lunch.
Katy's previous experience played a huge role here, and she was easily able to help her mother with the details of her diet.
"Starting tomorrow morning, let's go on a morning walk together," Katy suggested when they had finished their lunch.
"Yes, let's do that," Her mother readily agreed as she looked at her daughter with a different gaze than earlier.
'I never noticed that my Katy has become so mature,' She thought in her mind before getting up from the dining table.
Katy told her mother to rest instead and took the plate from her hand since she must be exhausted after all the tests.
A while later Katy did the dishes and went to her room to study.
"With my mom's health taken care of, I only have one thing to focus on," Katy muttered to herself as she sat on her study table and got engrossed in her notes.
With only twenty days left for Gior's entrance test, she couldn't afford to take things lightly.
