The waiting period was random. For some, their interviews went for twenty minutes and for others for forty-five. Therefore, there was suspense in the air as to who would be called next.
One of the previous candidates soon returned to the room and was surrounded by other candidates the very next moment. They immediately started asking him what was asked in the interview.
Overwhelmed, the candidate managed to remember only a few questions and told them about it before taking his seat.
Even without listening to his answers, one would be able to guess from his worried expression that the interview didn't go the way he had expected.
It was then that the staff member entered the room with a paper in hand, called out a name, "Samantha Trucks"
Samantha took a deep breath and stood up from her seat.
"Do your best!" Katy patted her back with an encouraging gaze to which Samantha nodded with a smile. The lingering tension on her face somewhat faded as she soon went out of the room.
Now, with Katy included, there were still seven candidates in the room yet to be interviewed.
Time passed at a snail's pace as Katy kept going over all the interview questions that were asked to her in her previous life to the point, she was sick of them.
A few other candidates were also called in, but Katy's name was still not called. Just when she was growing impatient, Samantha's excited figure walked inside the room.
"Katy!" She rushed towards her in excitement and hugged her tightly.
"Hold on!" Seeing all the weird gazes directed towards them, Katy pushed Samantha away and asked her the next moment, "What happened? Did the interview go well?"
"Well?! It went great! All the questions that were asked were the ones I had practised earlier!" Samantha said feverishly.
"That's great!" Katy smiled brightly when she heard this. Her nerves also eased a little as she became more confident about answering the questions which would be asked of her in the interview.
"What about you? You weren't called yet?" Samantha asked the next moment.
"Nope, four, including me, are still left," Katy told her.
"That sucks, but I trust you. With how mine went, I can bet that you're going to ace it!" Samantha proudly stated and sat next to Katy.
The two engaged in some casual conversations, which helped Katy do away with her nerves, but that didn't go on for long.
"Just why aren't they calling you…" Samantha muttered as she looked towards Katy with a worried look. She was the last candidate remaining who had yet to be called inside.
At that moment, a candidate walked into the room. His face appeared crestfallen, and the blue shirt he was wearing was all drenched from sweat.
Seeing him, several candidates couldn't help but frown.
"Wait! Wasn't he among the first four that had gone for the interview!" Someone pointed out the very next moment.
"Yes, I had almost forgotten about him. Did his interview go for almost two hours??" Another candidate asked with a shocked expression.
It was at that time that the staff member entered the room and called out the last candidate who was going to be interviewed.
"Katy Perkinson. Your interview is in Room 4. Be ready in ten minutes," the man said, and soon left the room.
'Room 4, huh?' Katy wasn't surprised that she wasn't assigned the same room as before. It was normal for a few changes to occur since she had made Samantha give the exam along with her this time.
Taking a deep breath, she stood up from her seat.
"You got this, Katy!" Samantha cheered her up just the way Katy had done for her.
Katy nodded towards her with a smile and walked out towards the washroom to do one final check of her appearance.
It was only then that Samantha's attention went towards the guy with the blue shirt, who was answering the questions raised by other candidates.
"It was horrible. Not a single question regarding acting was asked. I've said 'I don't know' for more than I can count and by the end of it I was both mentally and physically shattered…" the man stated.
'I'm glad I didn't get that person as an interviewer,' Samantha couldn't help but think to herself.
After a few more questions, someone asked the man, "What room number were you in?"
"It was room number 4," The man answered.
'Room number 4!' Samantha's eyes widened the very next moment. She rushed outside to the washroom to inform Katy, but she was too late. Katy had just entered the interviewing room at that time.
"Good morning, ma'am," Katy smiled brightly and wished the person who was sitting behind the table in front of her.
She was a woman who was neatly dressed in a corporate suit. She had sharp facial features and a healthy glow to her face which made her look younger than she actually was.
"Sit down," The woman told Katy while going over a piece of paper, not bothering in the least to glance at Katy.
A bit stumped by this odd reaction, Katy couldn't help but furrow her brows a little as she took her seat.
The woman raised her eyes and pulled down her glasses a little to see Katy's expression.
She then scribbled something down on a sheet of paper next to her and asked, "So Katy, why do you want to become an actor?"
'It's the same pattern!' Katy thought to herself as a confident expression formed on her face, and she started answering.
"The reason I want to become an actor is-"
Before Katy could continue any further, the woman frowned irritably and cut her off, "Scrap that question. Tell me three things you would like to change in your mother."
'What? Why is she asking something like that all of a sudden?' Katy's brows furrowed subtly at this question, but she still managed to think of an answer and said, "I love my mother the way she is and therefore there's not anything that I would like to change in her."
The woman, however, made an unsatisfied expression at the answer and poked, "There must be something. Is your mother perfect?"
Katy paused a little and answered firmly, "No, just like any other human, my mother is also not perfect. However, it's those imperfections that make us really human and appreciate each other, and without them, we all would no longer be humans but robots. Therefore, there's nothing I would want to change in my mother."
"I see," the woman pursed her lips in a dissatisfied manner at this answer and noted something down on the paper again before asking Katy the next question.
Katy's breathing increased a little because of interviewer's ill tempered reactions as she mentally kept telling herself to remain calm.
"In your questionnaire, you've answered that you were in the top 10 in your acting school. That's a great achievement.
However, I fail to understand why, despite such a good ranking, you would appear for an interview at this agency."
The woman paused and stared towards Katy with an inquisitive expression.
