Chapter 15 - Uncertainty

"It's because the difficult entrance test caught my attention," Katy stated and continued, "the fact that despite being a new agency, Gior still decided to have such a difficult entrance test for young actors only suggests that its goal is that much higher…that's why I want to become a part of it."

Katy smiled brightly by the end of her words. She felt a little proud of herself that she was able to think of such an answer on the spur of the moment.

However, the interviewer still carried a lacklustre expression on her face and just hummed at her words.

"Hmm, a good textbook-style answer," the woman said while playing with the pen in her hand and asked, "I see that you have stated that you don't have a father. At what age did your father die?"

A subtle anger rose in Katy's mind, sensing the way the question was asked, but she still calmed herself down and answered, "When I was in my tenth grade,"

The woman's face scrunched the very next moment as she raised her voice a little, "Did you not hear what I asked you? I asked your age, not in which class you were. Since you've cleared the written examination, I expect a basic understanding of language from you."

She ended her sentence with a snort and gazed towards Katy.

"…Y-yes, I'm sorry," Katy was a bit stumped by this reaction and answered after a thought, "I was 16 years old when my father died."

The woman once again noted down something on the paper next to her before shifting to another set of questions.

These were mostly related to acting, and Katy was able to answer most of them without any trouble. There were a few times she was forced to say 'I don't know,' but Katy didn't fret over them much.

"Very well. Here's the last question from my side." The woman interlocked her fingers and asked, "What is your deepest fear?"

Katy, who had relaxed a little after being asked all the acting-related questions, was once again taken by surprise by the question. She paused and took her time to think of an answer to the question.

Meanwhile, the woman just looked down at the paper in her hand and went through it as if she was willing to give Katy an entire day to think of an answer.

'What do I fear the most?' Katy repeated the question in her mind as her various memories of both this life and earlier flashed in front of her eyes, and she soon got her answer.

"L-Losing my mother," Katy answered several seconds later.

"Oh?" The woman showed a curious expression for the first time in the whole interview and asked, "That's quite a specific fear that you have. Any reason behind it?"

'Because I've lost her once and know how it feels…' Katy thought to herself, but of course didn't say that.

"I-It's because just a few weeks back, there was a blood clot discovered in my mother's heart. At that time, I was overwhelmed with the fear of losing her.

It was only when the doctor had told me that the blood clot was only in its initial stages and could be taken care of easily that I was able to relax…that's why I answered that," Katy told the interviewer.

"Is that so, huh?" the woman asked and blankly stared towards Katy.

"Yes, ma'am," Katy responded.

The woman nodded the next moment and said, "Alright, Katy, it was great talking with you. You may take your leave now."

"Yes, ma'am, thank you," Katy responded appropriately and left the interviewing room the next moment.

It was only when the door closed that a subtle smirk finally appeared on the interviewer's face as she said to herself while noting down something in her paper, "Looks like I finally found what I was looking for."

On the contrary, Katy was unable to feign confidence any longer, and her expression crumbled the moment she left the interviewing hall.

"What the hell was that…?" She couldn't help but ask herself as she looked at her arms, only to see that both of them were trembling.

She went to the washroom the next moment to freshen herself up and came out of it after ten minutes, much calmer than earlier.

'It's alright, Katy, it doesn't matter if it's not Gior. With your knowledge of the future, won't you be able to become a good actor in other agencies as well?' Katy repeated to herself in her mind and finally made her way towards the room where everyone was waiting.

"Huh?" A confused expression formed on her face when she saw that, apart from one staff member, the whole room was empty.

"Oh, you're here. It's lunch time now, so everyone is in the cafeteria on the first floor," The staff member informed Katy.

"Got it, Thanks,"

Katy soon reached the cafeteria, and her attention was immediately attracted by a hand that was raised in the air.

"Katy! Here!" Samantha called her out and pointed towards the empty seat next to her.

Seeing this, Katy nodded and, after taking her meal from the counter, sat next to Samantha.

"How was it?! That guy from before said that the interviewer in room number 4 was very harsh," Samantha asked with a worried expression.

Hearing this, Katy answered with a bitter smile on her face, "It was really something I wasn't expecting to be honest." She released an exhausted sigh and continued, "Well, I did my best. Now whatever happens is up to fate."

'If even in my second life I'm unable to join Gior, then it just wasn't meant to be,' Katy thought as a consolation to herself.

Seeing Katy's expression, Samantha too became worried. However, not wanting Katy to lose her hope, she said in as cheerful a manner as possible, "You'll pass. You're so talented in acting, so how could you be rejected? Have hope in yourself!"

"I hope so," Katy said with a smile, although uncertain, "Let's eat then, otherwise our food will go cold."

Understanding that Katy didn't want to talk about this topic anymore, Samantha nodded.

With that, they busied themselves with their lunch.

After an hour, they were all once again called to the previous room. The final results were going to be announced there.
