As Victor stepped into the room the floor beneath him continued to shake violently. His wife sat on the bed, her eyes still had the spark of violent liquid silver. He looked out the window. The water had completely turned red, and the sirens turned and wailed on the shore.
Victor was a little scared of his wife's new self; he didn't know what to say to pacify her. He walked up to her slowly and cautiously. He stood by the edge of the bed and spoke.
"Zy, my love. I'm sorry. I didn't… I don't know…". He was at a loss for words to speak.
Zyra turned to him, rising to her feet.
"I know you didn't do it". She spoke, staring into Victor's eyes, although this time her eyes didn't carry that loving glare; they carried one of rage and anger.
"You do?". He asked still a bit uncomfortable.
"I'm not angry at you because I think my husband got another woman pregnant. I'm angry because Genevieve could put you, Sofie, and pregnant in the same sentence and I couldn't shut her up for good. I'm angry because I gave her room for that, because I was away for a long time. I'm angry because they dared to nearly kill you, by drugging you while I was away. I am going to deal with every single one of them". She spoke with her back to her husband she was still boiling in anger.
Victor was in shock as he watched his wife speak. She was increasingly driven by revenge, and now she was almost inhumane in her thoughts. Could the ruthlessness of the sirens have eaten up her human side?. He wondered to himself.
He held her by the shoulder and spoke calmly to her this time more relaxed because he was clear she wasn't pissed at him.
"My love, I understand your anger but your rage is destroying a lot. Your people are suffering".
"What do you mean?". She turned to him, perplexed, she had not been aware of what had been happening around her since she flared up in the dining room.
"Come take a look". Her took her by the hand while his other arm was wrapped around her shoulders and he led her to the window.
As she looked out the window she gasped in shock.
"What's going on". She whispered.
"I think you're connected to the water, and so whatever emotions you show reflect in the water too. The entire river is bloody, I think the sirens can't leave in it, they've taken to shore, but I don't think it's working". Victor explained calmly.
Zyra looked up to the sky and whispered again. "The clouds are blocking the moon. What have I done?". She spoke looking back down to her people in pity as she calmed down. The storm also began to calm down.
"It's going to be fine". Victor comforted her as he watched the storm calm.
Her eyes began to close she could barely feel her feet. She crumbled in her husband's arms.
"Zy". Victor called out in shock. Her eyes were still open but very weak.
He took her in his arms and carried her over to the bed. Where she lay in his arms as worry spread through his face.
"I just got you back, I'm not going to lose you".
"You won't lose me, my love". She spoke, smiling faintly, but Victor was still scared.
"I'll go and get the doctor or your sisters. Just someone who can help". He spoke, wanting to put her down and run out to get help, but she stopped him.
"Don't leave me". She spoke holding firmly to his shirt. Victor broke. He didn't want to leave, but still, he needed to get help.
He remained where he was, quiet for some time, staring at his wife. Zyra stared back at him, this time with her calm, loving gaze. She smiled again and spoke.
"I know you didn't do it".
Victor was uneasy; he couldn't reply to her, and he just felt uncomfortable.
"What?". She asked him noticing his movements.
"I don't know. What if I did? I was out for days I didn't even know what I did for days. What if I did something stupid?". He spoke with guilt written all over his face.
Zyra stared at her husband a bit longer before putting on a faint smile and speaking.
"You're my Mr Hale, Victor". She spoke shaking her head as she smiled at her husband.
"I know you even more than you know yourself. We've lived together and slept together on the same bed since I stopped running. And you've never once forced yourself on me, even though I've never let you in for six years, for my own selfish reasons. And I respect you for that, I also respect your mom and your dad. You're a gentleman, Victor, and I know you'll never hurt me for any reason". She spoke as her thumb grazed her husband's cheek.
Victor looked at his wife, emotionally, he was weak seeing her weak, but he found power and confidence in her words, he felt fulfilled. He knew he hadn't wasted the 9 years of his life in marriage with this woman; it had been the years of his life, especially since they started making things work between themselves.
"I love you Zy". Victor couldn't help but voice out.
"I love you more, my knight". She spoke, smiling, before her eyes shut completely, a single teardrop falling off his eyes onto her cheek.
He wasn't going to lose his wife to this new life she found herself but he was definitely going to support her through it. He placed her properly on the bed and ran out looking for Thalindra and Nerina. He bumped into the housekeeper, who informed him that they had gone to the water.
He ran outside to the riverbed where there was a land full of sirens basking in the moonlight, their eyes and tails shining radiantly.
"Thalindra, Nerina". He continued yelling.
The sirens were alert. They perceived him as a threat and were about to attack until Malrik shunned them.
He ran to Victor and gave him a look as if asking him what he was doing at the shore.
"I don't know how to communicate with you but I need to find Thalindra and Nerina. I need their help". Victor spoke in frustration.
"Help". Malrik repeated after him. He had heard that word a couple of times from the boats they had wrecked.
Victor nodded his head multiple times to affirm him.
Malrik immediately ran back into the water, and in no time, he was back out with Thalindra and Nerina, who looked worried.
"Malrik said you needed our help". Thalindra spoke.
"Yes. It's Zyra, she passed out".
"That's not good". Both sisters spoke in unison as they exchanged glances.
"What do you mean?". Victor spoke, fear and frustration in his words.
"She broke through her boundary. Every siren has a cage that blocks out excess negative energy but she broke through it. Her powers fed on her because she was feeling anger from within. Siren powers work on emotions. Joy, sadness, grief, anxiety, anger, and whatever else. She's pushed so far, we don't know if we can bring her back". Thalindra spoke worriedly.
"Come on, I might be able to do something, let's go check on her". Nerina spoke.
"You heard the healer". Thalindra spoke following behind Nerina as they ran into the house.
Victor stood in shock. He could feel his whole world crumbling before him. A few minutes ago, he was happy that his wife was back, and now, he wasn't even sure if he could still have her with him.
He walked slowly back into the house. He was like a walking corpse. He'd naturally do so much to make sure she was alright but here he was helpless because this was beyond human understanding.
He stood by the door and watched as Nerina used her ability to try and bring his wife back while Thalindra supported her. He listened to them sing and watched his wife, whose body wasn't responding at all. After a while, he turned away and stepped away from the door; he couldn't contain all that was happening.
He sat in the corridor for such a long time. The CEO, the man who controlled crowds and commanded the world of business, sat on the bare floor, helpless. After more than half an hour, Thalindra and Nerina walked out, he stood up in a hurry to ask about his wife.
"She isn't responding to my healing. I'm confused". Nerina spoke her voice shaking.
"The negative energy is eating her up much quicker than we thought. Nerina was able to stop it for a while, but we'll have to keep watching her".
"I have to return to the water. I have to come back stronger by morning if we're going to save her". Nerina spoke and ran off.
"Just tell me you didn't do it". Thalindra spoke like a very protective elder sister, anger in her eyes.
"I didn't". Victor spoke this time confidently. But his voice was shaky because of his wife's condition.
She nodded her head once and tapped him on the shoulder.
"We all don't want to lose her. We'll do everything we can to bring her back". She spoke walking off.
Victor walked up to the door of the bedroom. He stared at his wife; he couldn't bring himself to accept this. He walked up to the bed, held her tight against his chest, and let the tears fall freely down his cheeks. He bit down strongly on his lower lip as he subbed quietly, multiple thoughts going through his head."What did they mean she broke her boundaries? Her powers were feeding on her? She wasn't responding to healing? Was she going to wake up? What if I lose her?". The thoughts continued to ring in his head as he held her closely.
