The motorcycle's engine purred as it zipped down the winding dirt path, the forest rushing past in a blur of green and gold. Bulma leaned forward, her blue hair whipping behind her in the wind. Beside her, Majin Buu sat casually, arms folded, utterly unfazed by the speed or bumps. His golden-red eyes wandered lazily over the horizon, his grin never fading.
Bulma shot him a side glance, lips curling in frustration. "You know, for a guy who basically barged into my adventure, you could at least pretend to be impressed with my driving."
Buu chuckled. "Impressed? Heheheh… Child's toy. I could fly us faster than this thing can even dream."
"Then walk!" Bulma snapped, sticking her tongue out. But before she could continue, her face suddenly twisted in discomfort. She slowed the bike, pulling to the side of the trail.
Buu raised an eyebrow. "Hn? What now?"
Bulma hopped off, flailing her arms. "Bathroom break! Don't follow me, creep."
Buu leaned against the bike, grinning wider. "Heheheh… As if I'd need to peek. Go on. Try not to get eaten."
Bulma stomped into the bushes with a huff. The moment she vanished, the air shifted. A screech echoed overhead. Buu tilted his head just as a massive shadow swept across the ground. A pterodactyl dived, wings tearing through the trees as it set its sights on Bulma.
A scream ripped from the forest. "KYAAA! Help!"
Buu sighed, rolling his eyes. "Really? Is this a canon event?" In a blur, he vanished, reappearing midair above the beast. His fist drove into the reptile's skull with casual force, snapping its head sideways. The monster crashed into the dirt, Buu's tendril-like arm whipped out, wrapping its throat.
He dragged it closer. "Wrong prey." With a squeeze, the creature went limp, tossed aside like garbage.
Bulma burst from the bushes, stumbling as she pulled up her skirt. "Oh my god! That thing was gonna eat me!"
Buu dusted his hands, smirking. "And here I thought you said you didn't need me."
Bulma blushed, torn between indignation and relief. "Shut up. I could've handled it."
"Heheheh… Sure you could."
By nightfall, the two had stopped in a clearing. Bulma tossed a capsule onto the ground, and with a poof, a sleek Capsule House appeared. Its lights flickered warmly in the twilight.
"Finally," Bulma muttered, stretching her arms. "I'm not sleeping on the ground." She glanced back at Buu, who was already drifting toward the darkened woods. "Where are you going?"
"Hunting," he said flatly. "Your food smells weak. I want meat."
"Suit yourself," Bulma replied, rolling her eyes as she disappeared inside.
'If I have some luck, they should be around here...'
Buu moved silently among the trees, his aura a whisper against the night. The scent of blood and growls of predators guided him deeper until he stumbled upon a clearing. A pack of wolves had surrounded two small figures, snapping and snarling.
One was a boy with a dog face, trembling. The other—a girl with sharp eyes, long dark hair, and a pistol clutched in her hand—stood protectively in front of him.
"Stay behind me, Shu," she hissed.
Buu leaned on a tree, amused. "Bingo."
The wolves lunged. Before they could close in, Buu's ki pulsed. The beasts yelped as tendrils of pink flesh speared out, wrapping around their necks and yanking them aside like rag dolls. With a flick, he smashed them into the ground. Silence fell.
The girl blinked, chest heaving. "Wh… what the hell…?"
Buu's grin stretched wide. He approached slowly, crimson eyes glowing in the dark. "Don't thank me yet. Maybe I wanted the wolves gone… maybe I just wanted to see your face more clearly."
Her cheeks flushed despite herself. She lifted the pistol with shaky hands. "S-stay back!"
Buu chuckled, circling her like a predator with all the time in the world. "Heheheh… So fierce. I like that." He leaned closer, tilting her chin up with one finger. "You've got spirit, girl. Tell me your name."
She hesitated, glaring but unable to shake his gaze. "…Mai."
Buu's grin deepened. "Mai… Pretty name. Pretty face. Heheheh… I think I'll remember you."
Shu squeaked, clinging to her arm. "Mai, don't talk to him! He's scary!"
Buu's eyes slid to the boy, smirk turning sharper. "Relax, pup. If I wanted to kill you, you'd already be gone. Be grateful—I'm feeling generous tonight."
Mai pulled Shu back cautiously, still glaring. "Why save us, then?"
Buu shrugged. "Because it amused me. And because you…" His eyes raked over her again, hungry but playful. "…are far more interesting than a pile of dead wolves."
Mai flushed deeper, biting her lip. Buu chuckled, stepping back. "Go on. Run along, both of you. Live. Who knows… maybe we'll meet again."
He turned, vanishing into the shadows without waiting for thanks.
Behind him, Mai stared into the night, heart pounding in her chest. Shu tugged her arm frantically. "Mai! We have to go!"
But her eyes lingered on where he had stood, that predatory grin burned into her memory.
Back at the Capsule House, Buu returned with fresh kills slung over his shoulders. Bulma peeked out the window, yawning. "Took you long enough. Did you get distracted?"
Buu dropped the carcasses on the ground, his grin sharp. "Heheheh… You could say that."
