Chapter 196 - Chapter 7: Cat's Eye

Not long after, Edogawa Conan got what he wanted and left Professor Agasa's house.

Professor Agasa stood at the door, worry written all over his face.

"If Shinichi gets into danger... are we really not going to help him?"

Emiya replied calmly, "I'm not related to him, so of course I won't help. But if you want to help, I won't stop you."

Professor Agasa sighed helplessly.

"I'm no match for Gin."

Emiya rolled his eyes.

"When did I say you should fight Gin? Don't forget who you are."

Professor Agasa froze-then suddenly realized.

That's right.

I'm an inventor.

With his technical genius, he didn't need to fight Gin head-on at all. He could create gadgets, tools, countermeasures-things that would keep Shinichi alive without ever throwing a punch.

"I know what I should do," Professor Agasa said seriously.

Emiya nodded in satisfaction, then casually added,

"Oh, and if you learn Nen, you could beat Gin easily."

Professor Agasa: "..."

He had almost forgotten about Nen entirely-science really did make him forget everything else.

"By the way," Emiya added, "I'm going out. I won't be back tonight."

"Alright," Professor Agasa replied, not asking where Emiya was going.

After all, it wasn't really his business.

After leaving the professor's house, Emiya headed toward Ekoda High School.

His target this time was none other than the true heir of Red Magic-

Akako Koizumi.

Emiya felt it was time to recruit this witch.

What he didn't expect was to fail completely.

"I refuse," Akako Koizumi said flatly.

Emiya blinked.

"...Why?"

"Because I'm not interested in anything you're saying," Akako replied calmly.

Emiya was stunned for a moment.

"Did I not explain myself clearly?"

"You did," Akako said, waving her hand dismissively. "I'm just not interested. That's all."

With that, she turned and walked away gracefully.

Emiya scratched his head.

He genuinely hadn't expected her to refuse.

Not negotiation, not hesitation-just a clean rejection.

But he didn't chase after her.

Everyone had their own choices.

If Akako Koizumi didn't want to walk his path, he wasn't about to force her.

In this world, there were plenty of people. And not everyone would agree with him.

If he let every rejection bother him, life would become exhausting very quickly.

When his thoughts settled, Emiya realized he'd walked quite far.

He checked the time.

Not even 5 p.m. yet.

"...Where should I go?"

After a moment's thought, a name surfaced in his mind.

Cat's Eye Café.

He had already tasted the coffee brewed by Yoshimura from the Tokyo Ghoul world.

Now, he was curious about the coffee brewed by the famous Cat's Eye sisters.

After a brief search, Emiya found the café.

He pushed open the door and stepped inside.

The shop looked ordinary enough. There were no customers-but behind the counter stood a beautiful woman with an elegant, melancholic air and a beauty mark at the corner of her mouth.

"Welcome," she said softly.

Emiya sat at the bar and smiled.

"Please give me a cup of coffee."

Without question, this woman was the eldest of the Cat's Eye sisters-

Rui Kisugi.

"What kind of coffee would you like?" Rui asked gently.

"A latte," Emiya replied. "Please."

"Please wait a moment."

Soon, a fragrant cup of coffee was placed before him.

"Here you go, sir."

Emiya took a sip.

...And paused.

How should he put this?

Not every beautiful person brewed good coffee.

Compared to Yoshimura's latte, Rui Kisugi's technique was... lacking.

Yoshimura's coffee was only "good" by Emiya's standards-but Rui's latte didn't even reach that level.

After one sip, Emiya set the cup down, placed a gold ring on the counter, stood up, and turned to leave.

"Sorry for the disturbance."

"Please wait."

Rui Kisugi's expression darkened slightly as she called out to him.

Emiya stopped and turned around.

"Is something wrong?"

"...Are you dissatisfied with my coffee?" Rui asked slowly.

"That's not your problem," Emiya replied.

"...What?"

He smiled faintly.

"To ordinary people, your coffee would be considered delicious."

"So you're saying you're not ordinary?" Rui said with a hint of sarcasm.

"That's right," Emiya nodded. "I'm not."

"I can't tell," Rui replied coolly. "You might not know this, but our beans are the best from around the world."

"I know."

Rui's eyes flickered.

She had initially thought Emiya was just another admirer trying to stand out.

But his indifference was genuine.

That made her curious.

"So you've tasted truly delicious coffee before?" she asked.

"I have."

"Where?" Rui asked softly.

Emiya returned to the bar, tapped his finger on the counter-

And a steaming cup of latte appeared out of thin air.

"This," he said, "is a latte from the Antique coffee shop. Try it."

Rui stared at the cup in disbelief.

She hadn't seen how he did it.

"...You..." Her gaze sharpened.

"I'm a super-powered person," Emiya said calmly.

"I can perfectly reproduce anything I've eaten."

"Super-powered...?" Rui stiffened.

Magic might've been believable.

Superpowers were not.

She didn't argue-only smiled faintly.

"Your magic trick is impressive."

Emiya didn't correct her.

"Then why not taste the coffee?"

"I'm sorry," Rui replied politely.

"I don't drink coffee handed to me by strangers."

"Fair enough."

Emiya said goodbye and left without hesitation.

Outside, Emiya looked up at the sky.

Still not evening.

Where next?

As he wandered the streets, something interesting happened.

While walking up an overpass, he ran into an acquaintance.

It was Conan.

At the moment, Conan was playing with several children.

When Emiya looked at him, Conan noticed him too-and his mouth twitched.

The little girl beside Conan followed his gaze.

"Conan, do you know that person?"

This was Ayumi Yoshida.

Conan nodded, gently moved her aside, and walked over.

"...Why are you here?"

Emiya glanced at Conan, then at Ayumi, thought for a few seconds, and said slowly,

"So you're going for the Ayumi route? That's pretty beastly."

"What?! Don't say nonsense!" Conan shouted.

"Who would make a move on Ayumi?! She's just a child!"

"Then what are you doing?"

"...Playing a game."

"Playing a game?" Emiya smiled.

"I'm impressed you can keep up with them."

Conan looked utterly exhausted.

"I'm not playing. They dragged me in to make up numbers."

Then he muttered bitterly,

"When is Ai Haibara going to invent the antidote?"

"It'll take a while," Emiya said calmly.

"She hasn't even appeared yet. After that, it'll take hundreds of cases just to make a temporary one."

"...Temporary antidote?"

"The kind that turns you back into an adult for a short time," Emiya said, patting Conan's head.

"Even if it's temporary, it'll be enough to satisfy your urge to show off."

Conan: "..."
