Chapter 36 - Chapter 12.1

The night was dark and moonless. The ruins of the city lay in semi-darkness, like frozen skeletons of the old world. The air smelled of ash, decay, and fear. Min-jun and So-hyun moved cautiously among the debris, stepping over broken slabs and twisted metal. Each step echoed, and the shadows of the buildings seemed alive, ready to seize them at any moment.

So-hyun held the device, a tangle of wires and crystals they had assembled together. His fingers trembled, yet his grip was steady. Min-jun walked beside him, rifle at the ready, eyes constantly scanning every movement in the darkness.

"This is our only chance," Min-jun said, his voice low and firm. "If we don't do this now, the virus will spread further, and no one will be safe."

So-hyun nodded, though the tremor in his hands did not escape Min-jun's notice.

"I'm ready," he whispered, a mix of fear and determination reflecting in his eyes. "But… if something goes wrong…"

"I'll handle it," Min-jun interrupted, squeezing his hand. "I always have."

They found a suitable spot — an open area among the ruins where the debris could serve as cover. Min-jun quickly surveyed the terrain, noting narrow passages and potential hiding spots, while So-hyun, fingers shaking, began setting up the device. Every detail, every wire, every crystal required precision, and a single mistake could cost them their lives.

"All set," So-hyun finally said, his voice firm, though tension lingered in every word. "Waiting for your signal."

Min-jun nodded, his gaze sweeping the dark ruins where zombies could be hiding. They both understood: this might be their final mission. Their last chance to save the world — and each other.
