Athènia's POV
I wake up to the sunlight hitting my face. Ah, what a wonderful way to start the day!
"Good morning, Lis" said Kora
" Good morning, Kora. You really slept well last night." I replied
"Oh, it was such an exhausting day. We're going to the university, right?" said Kora
"I don't know which program my father enrolled me in, but I hope it's nothing lame." I said
" You should always be wary—it's your father, and we both know how he is." I said
I get up and take a bath for a few minutes, then come out drying my hair. I sit in front of the mirror and brush it—if you're wondering, I don't wear makeup. Then I put on a black crop top and skinny jeans. Oh, my father would go insane if he saw me dressed like this. I make a sandwich and eat it, grab my backpack, and leave my room.
As I walk down the hallway, I notice that the other people in the apartments don't seem to be awake yet. I head toward the elevator and step in as the doors close.
"We can't hear a single sound because the apartments are soundproofed—stupid." said Kora
" And how do you even know that?" I asked
" You know very well I read it in their thoughts." said Kora
Makes sense. Who would still be sleeping at this hour anyway? The doors open and I step out. Leaving the building, I take a taxi. The university is 30 minutes away on foot, but since it's my first day, I'll take a taxi so I don't risk being late. I still need to meet the director for my schedule.
You know, I really like the idea of becoming a lawyer. I know it's weird, but I simply love this profession. I'll defend justice and always tell the truth. I'm going to be a lawyer. A great one.
Oh, we've already arrived at the university, but… wow. This doesn't look like a university at all, more like a manor as big as a castle. Seriously, what kind of university is this? I start walking inside. A smiling young woman approaches me.
"Hello, I'm Marajana, but people call me Mara." said the woman
I smile back at her.
" Hello Mara, I'm Athénia, but my close ones call me Lis." I said
"Nice to meet you. You're looking for the director's office, right?" asked Mara
" Yes, I'm new here." I replied
"Perfect! I'm new too. Let's look for the office together." said Mara
" Of course, if you don't mind." I said
We start wandering around the huge university in search of the director's office, chatting along the way.
"Lis, she's a hybrid." said Kora
"What? I thought Jiji and I were the only ones left." I said
" The only ones left in the royal bloodline. But there are other hybrids without royal blood." said Kora
"And what is she?" I said
"She's half-elf, half-werewolf." said Kora
"Damn." I said
" And she'll be one of our best allies." said Kora
" Well, that's a surprise." I said
"Lis, you look lost." said Mara
" No, it's nothing (…) oh, here's the director's office." I said
We knock on the door and hear a voice telling us to come in. We both enter and greet the director, Mr. JONES.
"Good morning, ladies. You must be Miss GRONDS and Miss SUMMER." said Mr JONES
We both answer yes.
" Welcome to Immortality. It's one of the best universities in London. It's not only a human university but also one for supernatural beings. Here are some rules you must follow." said Mr JONES
After his short introduction about the university, he explains the rules and hands us our schedules. We thank him and leave his office.
" Wow, you're studying law too." said Mara
" Looks like, for once, the King made the right choice." I answered
Mara raises an eyebrow at me.
"The King?" asked Mara
"That's what I call my father." I answered
She smiles at me. I think I just hit a nerve.
" What's wrong? Did I say something bad?" I asked
Her eyes well up with tears, but she wipes them quickly. Okay, that's something serious.
" I'm sorry (…) my family is dead." said Mara
I hug her, feeling a pang of guilt inside me.
"I'm so sorry." I said
"No, don't worry, it's not your fault." said Mara
She laughs through her tears.
" We should go, or we'll be late for our first class." I said
She wipes her tears away and puts on a big smile that doesn't mean much. We start looking for our classroom. I'll have to be very careful—I'm sure vampires and Silver have already sent people to kill me. We wander in circles as the people we pass stare at us strangely. Nothing I'm not used to—sorcerers always gave me those same hateful looks.
"Finally, here's our class." said Mara
We enter, and no one else is inside yet.
" Nobody's here, so we can pick our seats." I said
She gives me a mischievous smile. This girl… I think I just made a new friend. Besides Jiji, my brother, she's worthy of being called my friend.
" I couldn't have said it better." said Mara
She wags her tail happily. Ah, this wolf, I swear. We pick seats that won't draw too much attention. Which leaves us no choice but to sit in the front. Why!? Because we're already behind—classes started a month ago. The bell rings, which means students must be in class before the second bell. To our annoyance, everyone who comes in stares at us like we're from another planet—which, in a way, we are.
" Uh, are your hair really naturally white?" asked Mara
I shrug.
"I've always had white hair since I was a child." I answered
She raises an eyebrow at me.
" Wow, you're lucky." said Mara
I frown, not understanding why she says that.
"What do you mean?" I asked
" Well, you see, some people dye their hair to look prettier. Like that girl who just walked in." answered Mara
I look and see a tall, rather beautiful girl.
"What about her?" I asked
"Those white streaks—she dyes them to look more attractive and make her hair stand out. And then there are the elderly, whose hair is white because of age. But you—you're the only one with naturally white hair and you're very beautiful. People are going to be jealous. There's literally no one else with naturally white hair since childhood. You're unique." explained Mara
I'm a bit shocked. So not only in the world of sorcerers, but also among billions of others, I'm unique. Oh my goddess.
" I told you we were special." said Kora
" Yeah, yeah, hum hum." I said
I stop my conversation with my wolf and continue with Mara.
" I swear, they're all staring at you. I'm even sure some already have a crush on you." said Mara
"Oh, come on. I'm not the only one drawing attention—they're looking at the pretty redhead next to me too." I said
She gets shy. She really is beautiful, though. With her red hair and green eyes, she's a perfect mix of Jiji's fiery temperament. She even has freckles on her cheeks.
" Don't embarrass me, Lis" I said .
" No, Mara, don't underestimate yourself. You're beautiful—really beautiful" I complimented .
"Thank you." said Mara
She smiles at me. Oh my goddess, she and my brother would make such a good couple. At that moment, the professor enters and notices us. He looks at us as if we came from another planet. Nothing new.
" Well, I believe we have new students." said the professor
Mara and I look at each other, wondering who will speak first. It's not so bad, so I stand up and face the class.
" Hello, I'm Athénia Nancella Lisiane GRONDS." I said
I sit back down. I hear some whispers of "that's all?" and laugh inwardly. I won't let them know me so easily—they'll have to find out on their own.
Mara stands up, turns to the class, and beams a big smile.
" Hello everyone, I'm Marajana SUMMER. Nice to meet you." said Mara
She sits back down, chuckling. The professor starts teaching. I have to admit, in this class, MJ and I are probably the youngest. But honestly? Who cares. Everyone has their own abilities. For now, until my powers awaken, caution will benefit me for once.
And so, my journey begins here at Immortality.
As for the ending… I already know. There is no other outcome but war. And then… we'll see what destiny has in store.
